We were interested in doing the tour but the only option to pay for the reservation online was through Paypal which I will not use. Sign up early if you would like to go. Members of our group were deciding the night before and spots kept filling up.

We did stop by for gelato and to buy some chocolate. The shop is not air conditioned but chocolate is kept a refrigerated unit. The gelto was very good. I had chocolate and coconut which had a lot of coconut in the gelato. So far I have tried the milk chocolate caramel bar. Shop owner was very nice. There are also 2 souvineer shops on the same block which was handy as some of group had been looking to purchase souvineers.

This is an interesting place even if you don't take the full tour. There are interpretive signs giving the history of chocolate which are worth reading. The chocolate they make is exceptional. The vegan ice cream however, was rather bland (we tried three flavors).

Stopped for ice cream while exploring Bridgetown. I had the chocolate (of course!!) and my other half had the rum caramel. All ice cream is vegan and incredibly delicious.

We didn’t do a tour or anything ( not sure if they were running?) but worth a stop for ice cream. Sadly didn’t buy any chocolate as wasn’t sure it would make it back on the bus and to our hotel without melting.

Four of us stopped here for ice cream. We had mocha, vanilla and strawberry. They were all very mild and mainly tasted of coconut. It was vegan, and I have had many vegan ice creams before, and i was not that impressed when i compare to previous- It was refreshing but the strength of taste was disappointing.

I think we were on the first tour so I guess I will offer a bit more information. The 3 of us did the chocolate factory tour and there was another couple from the cruise ship. We were staying at Bougainvilla in the south and we drove there - pretty easy drive except downtown can get complicated but just follow the coast up. The couple said they paid $20us roundtrip but they could have walked. Anyway, the tour was great. My son who is 15 enjoyed it but thought it could have been a bit longer. They had really old machinery from Europe and Derrick, the owner showed us how each of them worked - the big round machine with stone wheels was grinding chocolate (melangeur), I thought the roasting machine was most interesting. We got to taste a variety of chocolate like a tasting course and their sugar (wow, their sugar tasted so different). Totally worth the $10us, I would highly recommend it.

This was our first time on Barbados. After getting through the gauntlet of aggressive taxi drivers on the pier and cruise terminal area, the four of us walked to the Agapey Chocolate Factory. We enjoyed the intimate tour and detailed breakdown of how chocolate is made. Out of the things we could have done in Barbados, we are glad we chose to do this tour. Hint: This tour takes place in a portion of a large warehouse. There is no A/C. Dress comfortably.

Chocolate Factory Tour - Agapey - Bridgetown Barbados
As this was listed as the number one attraction on TA and my wife loves chocolate we had to visit here during our stay in Barbados. Donald, the owner, only runs the tour about twice a week so I would recommend booking and printing off the directions and map as it is very difficult to find. It is on an industrial estate on the outskirts of Bridgetown on the road out to Holetown, near the Kensington Oval but don't let that put you off. As luck would have it it was raining the morning we had booked so we didn't feel we were missing any sun but it would have been worth it anyway.
We started the tour with some tastings of sugar and chocolate so we could appreciate the quality of the ingredients used, I can't help thinking that Donald found this part a bit of a chore and sales is not really his forte. However, he did shine when showing us the machines  and processes used and his training in engineering shone through here.
We got to run through and see the whole process and at the end we had an opportunity to purchase some of the gorgeous chocolate at a reduced rate, yum.  I have to admit I was surprised at how highly rated a chocolate tour  was but it was a fun morning and I would recommend it as a change from the beach and rum shops.

Hubby and I were on a 7 day Southern Caribbean cruise the week before Christmas. Our chosen tour in Barbados was the Agapey Chocolate Factory and it was wonderful! Derek, the owner, was so friendly and knowledgable and made us feel so welcome there. You could tell he loved his job and was so proud of his product.

He spoke about each step of making chocolate and showed us how each machine worked and where the machine came from. We had a tasting of many different chocolates from around the World, plus we got to crack open and taste a cocoa bean.

The tour is not long so you are able to do some shopping afterwards and it is very close to the cruise terminal that you can walk there if you don't mind walking on a grassy path for about 10 minutes.

We left there feeling like we were really entertained, enlightened and met someone that truly cared about the product he was making not just to make a profit, but to make a truly wonderful tasting chocolate!

No visit to Barbados is complete without a stop at a factory shop in Bridgetown. The manager is so friendly and chatty. We’ve tried different flavours over the years but rum caramel is a clear winner for us. We’ll definitely be back next time.
The website is pretty useful and features all available flavours.
Enjoy dark chocolate with a Bajan twist. Genius!

Great tour and chocolate tasting. You are able to sample all of the chocolates Agapey makes during the tour as well as getting a first hand look at how all of the chocolate is made. I found this to be a wonderful experience and one I would absolutely do again.
