I’m an adventurous foodie so to be honest I’d already tried many of the foods our guide Janelle introduced: Mauby, Flying Fish, Bajan baked chicken, sweet potato, etc. But it’s so much fun to discover what seem like “dives” or little hole-in-the-wall restaurants are actually institutions for the locals, learn what locals eat (and when), and be led around a new city. I never would have been able to discover the bustling center of food and commerce for everyday Bajans, and I wouldn’t have felt as comfortable there as I did after the tour.

Our guide Janelle was super responsive and if she couldn’t answer a question she went and found someone who could. The tour was small (just 2 families) the day we went and it was about equally divided btw walking/history and eating (the walk was not very far though! In a good way). We started at 10:30 and we’re done around 2 and we stayed and shopped for about another hour.

The tour ended with some amazing coconut ice cream from a place I never would have noticed.

Overall I’d say the tour was on the expensive side (for a family) while Bajan food in general is very inexpensive, however it was a really fun, memorable day out and left us feeling like we had a better understanding of Bajan culture and the island, which is priceless.

Our family of four, including two teens, did the Walking Food Tour of Bridgetown yesterday. Our guide, Janelle, was great. She was full of knowledge and history of the area and local foods. The foods we tried were traditional Bajan foods at long established restaurants and food stalls, including baked pork chops with sweet potato and green banana, fish cakes, a meat roll, fresh hibiscus juice and grapefruit, beef stew and rice and peas, and fried flying fish with cou cou. All of the food was tasty and gave us a great foundation for exploring local cuisine and downtown Bridgetown in the future. I also appreciated the peak into Bajan culture. I definitely recommend this food tour and Janelle.

I highly recommend the Round de Towns: The Ultimate Food Excursion if you want to see a lot of Barbados in a short amount of time. Throughout our tour, we visited Speightstown, Oistins, Bridgetown, Rihanna’s home, and Old Town. I particularly appreciated that the tour included authentic local cuisine, such as fish cakes, currant rolls, rum punch, and a typical Sunday dinner. Additionally, we enjoyed familiar foods with a Bajan twist. Our tour guide, Ravi, was exceptional—funny, kind, and extremely knowledgeable. He went above and beyond to exceed our expectations. Our driver, Shari, was also fantastic, providing knowledgeable commentary and ensuring our safety despite the unique driving habits of the community. Overall, this was one of the best tours I've experienced during any of my vacations—tons of fun and time well spent.

Paulette was our guide. She had arranged for us to sample traditional Bajan foods and beverage. As we walked, she gave us historical information about the city of Bridgetown as well as some of the origins of several dishes the Bajans enjoy. She talked about how the Bajans are different from Americans as far as what they enjoy about their foods. We visited a casual restaurant, a fruit and vegetable market, a street vendor of confections, another vendor of fish cakes, a small bakery and finally a chocolate and ice cream shop. It was wonderful. Didn't love all the foods but loved trying so many things.

lndscott77, Sounds like you had a delightful journey through the heart of Bajan culture and cuisine! It’s wonderful that you embraced the experience with such enthusiasm, even if every dish wasn’t to your taste. The variety alone, from the casual restaurant to the vibrant market, the sweet confections, savory fish cakes, freshly baked goods, and the decadent finale at the chocolate and ice cream shop, paints a picture of a rich and diverse food scene. Your open-minded approach to trying new things is truly commendable!

Janelle started with the history of Barbados which was enlightening, especially in cure of the country’s celebration of 1 year independence. She then walked us through local eateries, explaining the origins and current ways of cooking local ingredients. There were 7 stops and more food than could be eaten but our favourite was the last stop for ice cream!

Thanks much Doreen for the 5 star review! It was our pleasure to celebrate our 1st year as a Republic and 56th Independence with you. That with your new knowledge of local cooking makes you an honorary Bajan and we look forward to seeing you again!

Janelle was our guide. Friendly, knowledgeable and engaging. Administration was easy and smooth. All information provided ahead of the day. There is A LOT of food, so make sure you’re hungry. I don’t like to see food go to waste but couldn’t eat everything so in hindsight as a couple we should have spoken up to say we could share a portion. Not everything will be to your taste but the point is to try new things and we enjoyed that.

The tour guide met us right where they said they would be. Separated into smaller groups with individual tour guides once there. The food stops were very nice and consisted of locals within the community. Guide was efficient with weaving us in and around the area all while giving the history of Barbados and pointing out historic spots. Food choices were perfect and we were sufficiently stuffed at the end of the tour. Janelle was our guide and we highly recommend.

Lickrish covers all Bajan culinary specials within an history walking tour. Walking through the street and food markets and among historical buildings was very vibrant with lots of vendors and shoppers. Every stop offered delicious food and drink. Paulette is the best host - keeping interest with her Barbados historical, cultural and culinary knowledge coupled with all the delicious food and drinks we enjoyed. She is very friendly, engaging and fun. Coming back for this tour and recommending to others.

A fantastic taster (pun intended) of lots of Barbadian food. Guide Ravi Shankar (yes, really) was terrific, providing us with lots of extra information about Barbados and its history, not just the food. Just one suggestion for an improvement, and it's nothing to do with Ravi.

There must be plenty of places in Bridgetown that sell ice cream, so cut Agapey out of the schedule. The owner is a rude and unpleasant man who clearly doesn't like customers. It being a chocolate place I chose the chocolate ice cream. It was average. His vanilla ice cream was coconut. When we complained, he just shrugged. It's made with coconut milk, he said.

But don't let that put you off - and you won't want to eat again that day.

Loved it! Great food, interesting history and lovely tour guide (Janelle).

You get a lot of food, so don’t have much for breakfast. We tried a whole range of foods, from fruit, local juice, cakes and traditional full meals.

Janelle also shared the history of the island, the people and how this relates to the cuisine. She was fantastic.

I booked last minute as I randomly came across it when googling and it was a great decision. I highly recommend as a solo traveller, very inclusive and interesting.
