About
Horseshoe Bay is one of the most stunning beaches in Bermuda, famous for its soft pink sand and turquoise waters. The beach is especially popular during the summer months, with a lifeguard on duty and a beachside cafe serving delicious food. If you're lucky, you might be able to catch a weekly beach volleyball competition. Be sure to explore the beautiful cove on the west end of the beach, where sea stacks create a natural pool that's perfect for a refreshing swim. The beach gets busy, especially during summer, so get there early for fewer crowds. – Tripadvisor

- WVHomeChefWardensville, West Virginia69 contributionsBeautiful Beach Day!We visited Horseshoe Bay while on a cruise. The sand was soft and white, but when the water hits the sand, it turns pink. You can rent chairs and umbrellas for $20.00 each. The lady taking money is not very nice and when we walked to a guy to show us our chairs as we were told to do, he walked maybe five steps showed us our chairs and asked for a tip. It was crowed, as we figured with two ships at port, but still had plenty of room on the beach and in the water. We had nice gentle waves and warm water. The fish swimming around the rocks were beautiful. We did not get food or drinks, brought our own. We changed in the bathroom/shower rooms before boarding our bus back to the ship. Loved our beach day and would definitely go back.Visited September 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten October 5, 2023
- AustintoBostonBoston, Massachusetts406 contributionsWorth the VisitStayed at the Hamilton Princess, and decided one afternoon to walk from their private beach to Horseshoe Bay, since it is the most famous strip of sand on the island. The walk took around 20 minutes, but was along a somewhat busy road, so on the way back I taxied. The water was rough on the day I went, so nobody was allowed to swim. Still, the views are quite nice, and the sand does indeed have a pink hue to it. There is a little cove over to the left side where the water was calm. Definitely more of a tourist beach, but still worth the visit.Visited June 2023Traveled with friendsWritten January 21, 2024
- sstaleyUpminster, United Kingdom1,000 contributionsSpectacular spotWe spent a day unwinding at Horseshoe Bay, indulging in a scenic stroll through the bush and along the cliffs to Warwick Long Beach. The journey treated us to breathtaking views and captivating rock formations that resembled a horseshoe. In some areas with rocky terrain, our trail running shoes proved invaluable. Despite occasional crowds, finding a tranquil spot to unwind and absorb the surroundings was never a challenge. While Horseshoe Bay is renowned for its pink sand, it may not appear as vibrant during Christmas and New Year, yet it retains its timeless beauty. For those travelling from Hamilton, the convenience of the number 7 bus offers an excellent transportation option.Visited December 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten February 21, 2024
- Chris_BF_681Springfield, Massachusetts128 contributionsA must see when in Bermuda. Best Beach, just gets crowded.Great, beautiful beach. Has everything you need: Chairs, umbrellas, pop up tents, food and drinks. Get there early on cruise days as chairs and umbrellas can sell out. The sand does have a beautiful pink hue to it. The water is nice and the times I have been the waves were pretty calm and we just floated on our floats (bring blow up floats). We BYOB and brought snacks. One time we rented chairs and a tent (they were sold out of umbrellas but it worked out well because the tent fit everyone in our group and provided total shade). The other time we walked the path at the end of the beach to other nearby beaches that are much more quiet and less people (one of the beaches was having a wedding). Horseshoe Bay is nice because it is so popular there are always taxis there ready to take you back.Visited July 2023Traveled with familyWritten February 26, 2024
- KristieColumbia, Missouri121 contributionsYes, it's as good as they sayI love traveling in the offseason/shoulder season. The beach was nearly empty! It really is as beautiful as you imagine it could be. The water is pristine, the sand is pink, the locals are friendly. This is a special place! We didn't have snorkeling equipment, but I literally just WALKED into the water (to the right, as you face the ocean) amid the rocks and LOOKED at the tropical fish in the crystal clear waters!! We will be back, and soon!!Visited September 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten March 8, 2024
- Sheargenius55New Hampshire196 contributionsReally nice beach. We loved this beach. The sand was so soft and light pink. The water was nice, even though it was 65 out and windy the water was comfortable to go in. The day I went was pretty windy and there were tons of wind surfers which was awesome to watch. It was off season so there were almost no one there and it was nice to be able to walk around and enjoy the tranquility. There were small jelly fish in the water and washing onto shore. I thought one was a shell and touched it and realized it was a jellyfish. Luckily I did not get stung, as I only touched the squishy top. So I would say to be careful if you come during times where jellyfish are present. A lot of cool rocks and little caves to explore too which was fun!Visited March 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten April 7, 2024

Our "Celebration of Life" (20+ family & friends) enjoyed a "picture-perfect" day on April 17, 2024, at his is a top rated international beach. The weather of bright, clear sunshine @ 70 F. The water was clear and refreshing. The beach is extremely well managed by the Bermuda Park Commission. Umbrellas and chairs may be rented from a contract company for $20 each. This may seem "steep" ,however, it is a good value considering that you do not have to lug it. A shout out to the service staff. The staff could not have been more friendly and cordial. Limited beverages and snacks can be obtained from the consession service. Transportation to and from the beach for $7 per person each way. We returned to this iconic beach after 45 years and found it ever so nice. This is a lifetime "Bucklist" as is a visit to Bermuda. Do it!Visited April 2024Traveled with familyWritten May 3, 2024
- Megan MPrinceton, New Jersey704 contributionsAbsolutely GorgeousBreathtaking! My husband and I hiked along the trail that ran along the coast (South Shore Park) starting at Horseshoe Bay. Every bay and cove we saw along the way was absolutely beautiful! We went all the way to Warwick Long Bay. Highly recommend this walk in order to see these spectacular beaches! The only drawback was the crowds at Horseshoe Bay. Bus loads and taxis filled with passengers from cruise ships. Understandable-since everyone wants a glimpse of this gorgeous beach. The beach was packed with umbrellas and lounge chairs. This scene just motivated us to walk to the other coves and beaches along the path. Our trip to the Cooper Island Nature Preserve the previous day was much quieter and peaceful.Visited May 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten May 7, 2024
- B_PopeNapa, California407 contributionsWe Were GobsmackedYes, the pictures of the beach are beautiful, but being there in person rendered us speechless. The sand is gorgeous, not only pinkish but powdery-fine, and doesn't get screaming hot like other beaches. The water is crystal clear, and safe for kids. All other beaches I visit from now on will be compared with this one. It's truly a magical foretaste of heaven. While it's true that there can be a crowd (a moderate one on the late May weekday when we visited), you can walk East until you find the level of solitude that you want. We were content to stay in the more populated section, since we enjoy people-watching. Chairs and umbrellas are rentable for $20 each; we rented only an umbrella and sat on our beach blanket. If you get there early enough, you may find a patch of shade up against the rocks, otherwise the beach is in full sun with no trees. There's a snack shack on site, and runners that will bring you food if you want to be lazy. All the workers were friendly and professional. We came from the cruise ship on the $7/person (each way) van, which is a bargain in Bermuda, and you can't beat the convenience. It's about a 1/2 hour van ride. You could take the public bus for even less, but it doesn't go down the side road to the beach; it would be a significant walk. You will want with you: Water, snacks, sunscreen, sunglasses, and a towel.Visited May 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten June 5, 2024
- Pat S17 contributionsIs Horseshoe bay beach worth it?Lovely Bermuda beach. Gets very crowded very early. But has all amenities needed. 2 beach lounge chairs and umbrella where $60. Cash or credit. Long lines and sell out if you don’t go early. Would I go again ? Yes. Loved being at the beach all day and the water.Visited June 2024Traveled with familyWritten June 23, 2024

This is a beautiful and accessible friendly beach. A short 20 minute ride from the Royal Navy Dockyard, we arrived by taxi ($40 with tip) and returned by shared van ($7 per person). The sand was pristine and the water was clear. Beach attendants were helpful and assisted my mom to our tent and chairs with a beach wheelchair. The water/sky/scenery are magnificent - with small waves making their way over the reef to the beach, splashing colorfully on the rock formations. To the right is a protected cove with ripples vs. waves, and fish coming up to bathers and snorkelers. No fee for the beach; the large tent/canopy was $40 (recommended) and lounge chairs were $15. Guests are set up close to one another, but if you are willing to walk a bit there's plenty of space for distancing.

We visited this beach twice on our recent trip. First visit was close to perfect - slight breeze, clear water, plenty of spots to put beach umbrellas and chairs. Second day the water was pretty rough and lots and lots of coarse seaweed.
Be sure to bring your own towels or the buy then from the convenience store. Each beach chair and umbrella cost $10 - we ended up renting 3 chairs and 2 umbrellas as the sun is so intense.
Be sure to walk up and down the beach and explore all of the nooks and crannies.
Drinks and food for sale behind the little convent shop.

This was my third time to this beach, this visit was on on 8/17/2023. I have previously enjoyed my visit there. However, on this occasion, it was horrific. The beach was crowded and there were no more umbrellas, chairs or tents available for rent. The staff was unprofessional and aggressive. I believe that the fact that there were two large cruise ships there that day impacted the energy.
The beach is beautiful and there is a small bay which is appropriate for younger children and families. If you go there, go as early as possible, to be able to get the afore mentioned items without getting into a squabble.
The whole experience was negative. When we left to go back to cruise terminal, there were not enough taxis. No one there was managing the crowds and tensions were high. One of the cab drivers was very rude and almost became physically aggressive towards one of the people in our party.
I will highly recommend to book this excursion with the cruise ship to avoid the headaches. You may save a buck booking on your own but will for sure spend it on Tylenol because of the headache.

Very nice beach. Especially a quiet area to the right which is a calm pool like area. Be aware you cannot rent chairs and umbrellas before 10:30AM and they do not have towels. Also at time we visited 7/23/21 there were no food or drinks served. Bring your own. No problem getting a taxi as they are constantly dropping off folks.

Horseshoe Bay is a "must see" on everybody's list visiting Bermuda. Unfortunately, because of that, 3 cruise ships descended upon the beach making it extremely packed with hardly any place to sit. While it is beautiful, there are other beaches just as beautiful to visit if you find 3 ships in port! My only tip would be...go on Day 2 of your visit vs. Day 1. It might thin out by then. Also, they 'rent' chairs for $15 which were all sold out by the time we arrived. Bring a blanket as a backup and plan to sit on the beach. Lastly, if you take public transportation, the walk to the beach is quite steep and you'll be exhausted by the time you get there. Get a taxi...it's worth the money to take you right to the beach and avoid the steep walkway (which will get you walking back up!)

I traveled with a group of 15 (15, 13, 11, 5 year olds) to Bermuda this past week and one of our destinations was Horseshoe Beach. It was worth the drive from our hotel whixh was about 30 minutes by car from the Grotto Bay Resort.
You can rent chairs and umbrellas when you arrive and they will set them up for you. Their is a restaurant located right at the beach which sells burgers, hot dogs, chicken fingers, fried wahoo and beverages - adult and kid friendly. Their is also a bathroom and outdoor showers. Hair braiding for the kids too.
Once you are in the beach if you go all the way left you will hit all the different beaches and coves which is worth the 20 minute walk. We walked along the beach but we got to a pint Whwre we couldn’t pass any longer because the water was too high. However you can walk the pathway that’s higher up away from the water.
We set up towards the right when you walk in because it was nice and calm for our little ones. We saw some great fish when we swam out a little which you are able to stand on rocks and the fish come right up to you. Bring bread and they will come right up to you.
The main beach is great with nice big waves which the kids all loved. We even went into the cove and took some great pics.

I was on an NCL cruise to Bermuda and did a trip to Horseshoe Bay on my own. Right from the Dockyard we took a $7 mini bus. The mini buses are great, no need to pay for a personal taxi; just keep in mind that the mini bus leaves when it is full. Both the mini buses and the taxis will take you all the way down to the parking lot. The regular bus leaves you at the top and you need to take a wooden pathway all the way down to the beach. On the beach you can rent chairs and umbrellas for $10 each. There is also a bar and concession stand. It's a gorgeous place to visit. You can swim, walk along the beach and into a trail, or just lounge around. Really clean beaches and water.

Sits right next to the Fairmont Southampton beach. You can park and charge your Twizy in the Fairmont lot near the tennis courts if you’re staying there and walk through the gates which are open from dawn to dusk. Bring your own towel for seating

The shuttle from the Naval Royal Dockyard was 7$ per person one way which was ok (considering a gallon of gas cost 11$ on the island), it takes about 20min to get there and we were lucky enough to have a great driver who pitched in with some history and culture facts on the way. The beach itself looks ting and you would think it will be overcrowded (especially with two cruise ships in port) but once we got our chairs it didn’t feel like it at all. You have to pay for the chairs and umbrella (20$ each) but they have it nicely organized and you get wifi password. Drinks are little bit high priced (12$ for a small beer, 5$ for 20oz Pepsi). Water is beautiful with minimum wild life (only small fish) and sand is soft and white.

$7 per person shuttle takes you to the top of the street and you walk to an overcrowded beach. Take a taxi and ask the driver to take you to the beach a little bit farther. It is private, not crowded and you can rent chairs and an umbrellas. Also a private sheltered cove to snorkel.

We went to Bermuda on a NCL cruise in March and there were mini van taxis in the dockyard for $7 pp to Horseshoe Bay. Think there may be a local bus too but the mini vans were nice and easy! Horseshoe Bay beach was beautiful, definitely worth a visit!

Traveling with my elderly parents and would love for them to be able to see and enjoy Horseshoe Bay however, they cannot walk on sand. They can walk short distances - but the sand would be too unsteady for them. Are there wheelchair/scooters available to rent with the large wheels able to travel on sand? Can I reserve them in advance?

I did not see anything like that the time we were there. It is a good walk from the parking lot to the beach.

Hi, we are travelling to Bermuda at the end of this month (November). I am wondering if the restaurant/bar and washrooms are open at this time during the off season? And will the water be swimmable? We are travelling with a 20 month old. Thanks!

I am not sure if the facilities at the beach will be open, however wherever you are staying should have answers! Ocean temperatures do drop this time of year.

Getting a bus to horseshoe bay I’m reading is $7.00 per person as a cruise traveler . Do they accept US dollars or do we need to get a day pass or exchange our money for the ride?
Written July 6, 2020
You exchange for tokens. The main terrminal in Hamilton can do this nor major hotels. The bus works with zones so the fare will depend where you start and where you plan to get off.
