- Jo JLondon, United Kingdom22 contributionsNice and relaxingThis is a good way to see a bit of the capital. It's free and relaxing. You just hop on and enjoy the views. The driver stops for 10-15 minutes so you can buy some food/drink if needed. Try it, it doesn't cost anything and you might see some places you wouldn't otherwise.Visited June 2019Written February 12, 2020
- crzy1Clermont, Florida5 contributionsAdorable streetcarGreat way to save a few steps on a hot day. Travels down and back on the same route...short ride but easy to cut through a block to busier areas. Does stop at archealogical museum and for about 15 minutes at a store if you want an expensive bottle of beer! Nice little diversion for a hot day but sit below!Visited October 2022Written November 11, 2022
- amanda5805Duncan, Canada4,946 contributionsNot what it once was... So much shorter. We have ridden the trolly on 3 different trips to Aruba. The first 2 times I would have rated this experience a 5/5 but not anymore. It's much shorter than it once was. The past two times we really enjoyed it. This time it wasn't as great because it didn't take you very far. One of the pick up locations is just outside the cruise port. It has many stop points so people can hop on and off. It is completely free but you can leave the driver a small tip. You can see some of the Dutch style building but now it mostly just takes you to the Renaissance Shopping Center and back to the cruise port. Don't get me wrong I totally got off there to get a Starbucks. It had been almost 28 days away and I had a craving. I use to recommend this to so many people. Now I would only recommend it If you are bored, wanting to shop, want something to kill time or have small kids this would be fun but its not what once was. I hope they reopen the rest of the loop in the future.Visited December 2022Written May 6, 2023
- LaraKZPrague, Czech Republic221 contributionsWhy operate on half capacity when a long line of cruisers are waiting to rideThought it would be fun to get with the kids on this colorful tram we enjoyed in the past in Aruba just that this time crazy queues and surprisingly the upper deck was closed - it was not raining so didn't see why it would be closed if you have people waiting 30 min or more to get in. We gave up boarding at the cruise terminal and went by foot to the city center to just find the tram again going back still at half capacity and also doing just part of its itinerary as it stopped at the begging of the palm shaded shopping street. At least in the confusion of why it stopped there and who wants to get up and down we found seats so had a very short ride back to cruise - still nice for kids ... This is one nice little attraction in a city that offers less than on other islands pls don`t spoil it ....Visited February 2020Written February 29, 2020
- MN Sand Seeker858 contributionsSuper long waitWe thought it would be fun to take the street car after walking around downtown for a few hours. When we arrived at the end to get on, the car was full and wouldn’t let more on. So we waited while the full car sat there for at least 15 minutes. After it left we waited 30 minutes for the next car to arrive. After we got on that car, it sat for 30 minutes full and didn’t move. Once it finally was in operation, it was a frustrating ride; as many people wanted on but no one was getting off and operators kept yelling that people couldn’t stand on the streetcar. It really wasn’t worth the wasted time or hassle.Visited February 2020Traveled as a coupleWritten February 28, 2020
- Dana616Tampa, Florida54 contributionsPerfect way to visit downtownWe took the streetcar to get our bearing on downtown. Because our visit was still during covid restrictions we were one of 4 people on the streetcar. The attendants all wore masks even though it was outside and sprayed your hands with anti-bacterial gel. There wasn't a commentary on the sights but it didn't matter to us as we only wanted to sightsee. The attendants were friendly. The drivers were friendly and as a free method of transportation a must experience. Beware: the ride is short - this is not around the island but just downtown.Visited May 2021Written June 15, 2021

Brilliantly maintained and restored street cars they imported from San Francisco and it gives you a great view of all of the town..the drivers, guides are also super friendly, they even waited for me whilst I nipped into the pharmacy, that’s true service..thankyou guys…Visited June 2022Written June 26, 2022
- Tammi C438 contributionsShort route but nice.Trolley doesn’t go far but it’s a nice experience. From what I understand the route has been cut down since the pandemic. You can literally walk from the starting point to ending point in less time than it takes to ride the trolley. But it is nice to sit back and see the sights on the short ride.Visited January 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten January 14, 2023
- Cindy DManotick, Canada117 contributionsNot the same as it was…This used to be a lovely little (free!) excursion in Oranjestad. Taking the trolley from the port through the downtown core and back was a fun highlight of time spent downtown. We even had a favourite driver — Anthony! But now the tram only goes a very short distance (and then the driver asks for a tip) and stops. I wouldn’t bother doing this any more. How fun it was to ride the top level of the streetcar and take in the sights of downtown. The conductor was pleasant and pointed out different shops and buildings. We took lots of picture and needless to say, it was a great place to shop. I would do it again.

Streetcar loops around the downtown Oranjestad. Can hop on and off at any stop. Nine stops total - Port of Call, Rancho (Bus Terminal), Plaza Museo (Archaeological Museum is there), Royal Plaza, Renaissance Mall, Plaza Chipi Chipi, Caya Betico Croes, Plaza Bon Bini and Plaza Nicky. It stops the shopping area (Renaissance Mall, Royal Plaza), historic sites and casinos area. Take pictures of the beautiful Dutch style buildings on both sides while you are riding the streetcar. Look for the landmark - "I love Aruba" sign. It is near the Renaissance Hotel and take a picture there to remember the good times on the island. Two single-deck and two open top double-deck streetcars are running between 9am to 5pm. Only two streetcars run after 11pm.

If you are in the downtown area of Oranjestad on a day that the trolley cart is operating, it runs every 45 mins and it’s a gentle way of seeing the downtown area.
However some advice -
1. Either get on at the first stop by the cruise ships, or the third stop by the shopping area - we waited at the second stop (no shade, no sign, blazing heat) for 25 mins but the trolley cart was full (from the cruise) and so they would not stop for me and my children - we then walked down to the next stop, as I thought the cruise visitors would be going to the shops, which they did and we got on there. It takes 30-40 minutes for the route.
2. At the end of the first section of the route, the trolley stops for ten minutes by a cafe/souvenir shop and you are heavily encouraged by the trolley cart conductors to go shopping (most of the visitors did), the prices are inflated and there is better shopping elsewhere downtown.
3. The trolley cart operators are polite, but they respond best to the cruise ship visitors who give them tips and encouraged them to shop here/go eat there - it’s quite blatant, and whilst I don’t blame them (they are in the tourism business) I did think they overlooked/were brusque with everyone else. The trolley cart is free, but they announce quite a few times that they appreciate tips.
4. We had two hours to kill so it occupied 45 mins, but I would not have paid for the trip and I would not come into town just to do it.
Hope this helps!

Hi. What would be the best way to get to a nice beach from the ruise shop port? Also, which beach would be best? Maybe one with restaurants or a bar.

The streetcar just goes in a limited area in the downtown area. The only hotel that is near it is the Renaissance Marina Hotel.

Go across the street of Divi Village main entrance to take the bus to Oranjestad downtown. It is about 10 to 15 minutes ride. Get off the bus at the final stop. You will see the Streetcar there.

Easy to get to the streetcar from the ship?
mailroom2017
Ascot, UK206 contributions
No always as it depends where your ship is docked. But having gone through the arrivals area there is a tourist desk with no map or correct information. But if it is running it stops just across the road and you will see a tram track loop in the ground but it does not have a bus stop sign or even signposted. Shop keepers no little but more than the tourist desk! Very flakey service and not for sightseers.
