I booked their car in zagreb airoport from the 22.3. to 1.04. and when I returned it the only thing was that the tank was half full- that should have costed max 40-50 euros + something for the person that fill it. On the day of the pick up we were then told that the vehicle was not available and the employee simply wanted to send us away ! The employee was very rude and didn't care that the car was booked and already paid for ! The same thing happened to an older gentleman and a lady with a teenager in front of us. After I said that I was dependent on a vehicle, I was offered a higher category car including insurance. When I said that this would be 5 times more expensive than the vehicle I had already booked and paid for, the employee just said "Well, tough luck. Either the vehicle or none at all." I was literally FORCED to book the more expensive vehicle with insurance. However, as I was dependent on a vehicle and couldn't contact Booking.com, I had to grudgingly accept this. I have now paid 55,321.56 RSD instead of 9,334.06 RSD. So more than 5 times as much !!! I told them there was no possible way there were ashes in the car and they said they had a video, but no one would send it to me. Long story short, our credit card company was able to recoup half of the charge, but we are out $250. Unfortunately, I didn’t know about these problems until after I rented a car. I rented a car while in advance. I waited at the counter for 1.5 hours I rented a full-size car but they gave me a 15 passenger van. It was like driving a U-Haul. They told me it was the last vehicle they had however I know that was a lie because they gave out vehicles to people behind me, when I complain, the manager just said that he would cancel my reservation as if he was threatening me. I returned my rental on time, actually two hours ahead of time at Sky Harbor Airport in Phoenix Arizona. I then boarded a flight home to Indiana. 3 days later I receive a text that my car was late and to call if I needed to extend it. I called explaining I turned it in. The girl scanned my vin and plate number, told me to put keys on dash and I was good to go. For two days I have been on the phone countless hours fighting this lost vehicle. Also received an email of a damage report to the car!! They are charging me $1036 for a $374 rental with all of the late fees. I have no idea about the damage fees yet!! All of it is under investigation and that is all I get. Customer service is a joke. Zero help. They just keep telling me they send me emails in which I never receive. The vents were broken in the car and the logo on the steering wheel was messed up. This was like driving a golf cart. The fastest I got to was 60mph. When I rented the car I declined the additional rental insurance (as I always do). When I returned the car, they charged me $112 for it. The whole experience with this car and company was awful. The windshield wiper fluid was empty, car smells strongly of smoke, had burn holes in the seats, gas tank was not filled up all the way, check oil light on and tires over inflated. Antipathetic staff, unbearable, car not ready, we waited an hour for the car. The preparedness is an impostor of air, the price has been doubled at the point of delivery as opposed to booking. , the vehicle was of a high standard but the bad service and the excessive price leave a very bad taste. Cheap turns out to be very expensive. 250 dollars per day in the end.

I booked this car through Priceline (my first mistake). I was quoted a total fee of $221. When I went to pick up the car at San Diego Airport, I was told that a fee of $250 would be added to my rental since I had casually mentioned to the rental agent that we might drive up to wine country. I was told that the fee would apply if we went north of LA. The price more than doubled. Talk about bait and switch! Priceline won’t help. Payless won’t help. I will never use either one of them again.

Worst rental experience I’ve encountered.
I rented a car from Sacramento airport. After waiting in line an hour. The car I received was very smelly.
Hardly tolerable. I was contracted for a week, but on day 3 I got a flat and there was no spare and the pump was missing to fix it with sealant.
It took 4 hours for roadside assistance. When he arrived it was midnight and the only replacement car would be 3 hours away. He took the car and my family and I Uber to our hotel.
I was billed for the full week, I only used it 3 days and a $400 tire repair bill was sent my way.
I’ve contacted a customer service rep and there was
Absolutely no resolution to the excessive tire bill and extra days I didn’t have a car. Customer service is not in the United States it’s very difficult to communicate with the Rep.

I wish I had read all of these terrible reviews before booking a car through Payless. I actually booked the car through Delta Airlines, because it was the cheapest car rental option I could find. It was supposed to be $482 including all taxes and fees. When we got to the San Diego airport and went to Payless to pick up the car, they tried charging us $1200 for the car rental. They said taxes and fees were not included in the price even though it clearly showed in the reservation email that they were. They also tried adding on other insurance we did not want, even though we told them we didn’t want it. Then they claimed they couldn’t refund my card because it had already been charged, leaving us with no choice, but to take the car rental that we did not want. The whole thing was a nightmare. Do you not rent with this rental car company. It is a complete scam. It’s also impossible to file a complaint with them anywhere.

I reserved a rental to pick up at the Austin, TX airport. The first red flag was that the desk wasn't open and I was referred to the Budget desk, where I was informed the make and model I had requested wasn't available. I picked up the available vehicle and took photos as usual. I noticed the outside of the vehicle had not been washed but it was fine, and the inside seemed clean (no odors). I used the vehicle for 5 days. I returned it, but no one inspected it in my presence. Payless is now charging me $450 for a "smoke smell" that was not there. No one smoked in the vehicle while we had it. I was asked if I could prove there wasn't a smoke smell, seriously? How on earth would I be able to do that? This is unethical and I am disputing it, but beware!
