I highly recommend Cpt Laurenz. We literally were casting within 15 minutes of leaving the doc. My first cast was a fish we used for bait. Overall we did well with a number of Jack’s, a nice blue runner, a strawberry grouper and a barracuda. CPT Laurenz was very personable, knew his fishing and we were changing up our approaches often when the bite slowed. He was a down to earth cool guy to fish with and his passion for fishing and teaching others to fish is obvious. My son and I had a great time and we would definitely go back out with Cpt Laurenz again.

I had a great day on the water with Captain Laurenz. I had zero experience in salt water fly fishing as I have motion sickness on boats. This was to be a first for me. Laurenz picked a very smooth day for my maiden voyage and I took some medication. He has top notch fishing gear - all my favorite brands and his boat was setup nicely for the trip ahead. It was a short ride to our first location and the water was very calm. We got me set up and placed on deck. No problems with the stomach for our entire trip. We saw some large bonefish and had a real nice one follow my fly for a grab. The fished turned away at the last moment. Even though I didn’t hook-up, I had a great day. Laurenz is very patient, a great guide, knows where the fish are and is fun to be with with on the water. He shared my joy at being able to fish on the flats from a boat without stomach issues. He felt I have the skills to do it again and next time we’ll get fish, now that I have ticked off that skill set box. I look forward to fishing with him again.

My wife and I fished with Lorenz in January 2023 on the recommendation of my friend Tomo of Tomo's Tackle in Salem, MA. Despite the fact that he had recently twisted a knee, Lorenz was very fun and entertaining. He is quite knowledgeable of the local fishing scene and is the only Aruba guide we found who charters inshore spin and fly fishing. Even though my wife caught more fish than I did that day, we still had a great time and would absolutely book with Lorenz again in the future.

Just wanted to give anyone who is thinking about fly fishing in Aruba a small tip.
There is a guy in Aruba who is very much into fly fishing and is testing all the different sites to build experience about fly fishing in Aruba in general, and the good thing is that he is willing to share it with others .
He has set up this website www.flyfishingaruba.com where you can read a lot and get in contact with him

My friend Barry and I were holidaying in Aruba with our wives and went out for two days with Laurenz. On the first day (we fished from 6:15AM to 11:00AM) we landed 3 tarpon and had a significant number of other takes; I was also broken whilst playing a larger fish. Laurenz's boat and equipment is absolutely ideal for all this - we didnt need to bring any tackle at all. We did find sight fishing for tarpon and casting to the base of the mangrove roots very exciting. We did try to walk the area of the flats which has large bonefish, but thanks to hurricane Sandy, the wind was in an unusual direction and we weren't able to see any bonefish that day.
We also went out again during our second week, when the weather was kinder (a bit more wind and some cloud cover) but the tarpon werent showing much in the lagoon that morning, so we switched to using poppers on Laurenz's spinning rods and caught a few barracuda in between fly fishing attempts to lure the tarpon.
Both days were excellent - good fishing coupled with Laurenz's sense of humour and numerous stories were hugely enjoyable (as were his restaurant recommendations). For what we paid it also represented good value. When we next return to Aruba we will definitely be going out with him again.

I recently ( March 15 ) fished with Laurenz. He picked me up at my resort right on time. We were on the water before 7. I had asked to spin fish this trip ( I have fly fished with him on previous trips ). He had all the gear we could possibly use. The rods and reels were all top of the line brands and in good working order. That is something not seen on all boats in Aruba. We used an assortment of lures and caught some nice Barracuda. On the light tackle we were using they were fun fish to reel in. He saw some birds diving on bait and gunned the boat to get us in the middle of a feeding frenzy of small Tuna. The Client ( me ) got his lure tangled and missed a sure fire cast into a mess of fish! In 15 seconds they were gone. I am a serious fisherman and It is a testiment to this guide that I keep coming back. He knows the waters and he knows his fishing.

We were in Aruba in July. We were walking around the marina and came across Laurenz. He said he would pick us up at our hotel in the morning. He was at our hotel before we were there to meet him and we were 15 minutes early.. He said July it is not the greatest time for fishing in Aruba but it was a great time. I caught a lot of barracudas, had a lot of hits, and one big follow. We chased around a school of blue runners with plenty of excellent opportunities for them to hit the top water bait but they were just not interested. it was still a great time. I used his spinning rods and reels, they are top of the line. He is a great person and very knowledgeable, he does everything he can to catch fish. Thanks for a great morning of fishing!!!!

I had read several reviews for Laurenz at www.flyfishingaruba.com and was intrigued. I was able to get a trip booked and my buddy and I signed up for spin fishing. Laurenz was right on time, had a great boat set up & great spin gear. He knows his fishing and techniques. He is very friendly and funny. The fishing was ok but it was really effected by the wind. We fished the backcountry so there were no swells just the wind to dela with. We did see lots of barracudas chasing our plugs & bluerunners busting bait. Laurenz changed lures often for us and we tried quite a few spots. I ended up with 1 blue runner about 3 lbs and my buddy caught a pompano. I saw my first school of bonefish. I will definitely go out with Laurenz again...maybe it will be less windy next time...

First of all -- if you are trying to find a fishing "destination" -- Aruba is not the place. For flat fishing, go 90 miles to the South to Los Roques or over to Beliz. Or even to Anagada, the Bahamas, Mexico, or Turks. And, Lorenz would be the first to tell you this.
What I really liked about Lorenz is that he did not oversell it. He works very hard to put you on Tarpon (I had 4 shots -- missed 'em all), is reasonably priced, and does what he says he will do. I didn't try Bone with Lorenz but he did give me tips on how to do it myself out to Montalk (sp?) beach North of the hotel strip. I saw one of the largest bonefish I've ever seen but did not catch any after 2 mornings of flat wading near the wreck. Look for tails early in the morning and you can fish mostly from the shallow waters just in front of the wreck.
I give Lorenz my highest recommendation!

I am so glad to find Laurenz. He knows his island and he knows how to find fish. With just a few words he improved my casting. I frequently hire guides when I travel and he is definitely among the best. As a trout fisherman I needed some work on my saltwater casting and Laurenz was just the guy to help me.
Because I am a female I took someone with me the first time; my family met him and sent company the first year, now they look forward to letting me take off with him for the day while they enjoy the rest of Aruba.

Hello. We are traveling to aruba and we would like know if we could do traditional casting , not necessarily fly fishing. The pics are great and we really dont want to do a deep sea fishing.

I'm interested in a fly fishing day on Friday sept 25. Do you have availability? Cost? There may be 2-3 people. Do you have gear or do we need to bring our own.
Regards,
Jason
