Michiel was a terrific guide and we had an excellent day birding! His knowledge of the island’s birds and passion for their conservation are inspiring. He shared multiple burrowing owl locations which I was later able to visit again with my family — the kids absolutely loved seeing the owls (and the still-present roseate spoonbill). The Spanish Lagoon was another highlight as we saw multiple ruby-topaz hummingbirds, Caribbean elaenia, and white-tipped dove. He was also knowledgeable about the other flora and fauna which really enriched the trip. I highly recommend taking a trip with Michiel for anyone interested in seeing and learning more about Aruba’s unique birds!

Thank you Jacob. We were very lucky to observe some of the less frequent seen residents, including the C.Elaenia and White-tipped dove. I'm very glad you shared the fun we had with your family! Hope to see back soon, Michi

Recommended if you love birds and nature! Michiel is a great tour guide who is obviously very passionate and knowledgeable about Aruba and its nature. He picked us up at our airbnb, brought binoculars we could use and took us all over the island. We saw more amazing birds than we could count - many that are unique to the caribbean and Aruba. The burrowing owls were a highlight. He was also attentive to our needs and stopped for a snack at a delicious local bakery and brought cold water for us to drink. After the tour he sent us amazing photos that he took of the birds that we saw because he's a masterful photographer and we were trying to take pictures of hummingbirds with phones which obviously would not work well. Great experience overall.

You could not ask for a better guide to birding and photography on the island, or to the island itself. Michiel is exceptionally knowledgable on bird identification, behavior and habitats, an all around amazing naturalist, and is also a superb photographer and guide to exquisite settings for photography on the island. He is professional, on time, a kind and generous guide, and a pleasure to spend the day with. Having a tour with him is I think the best thing you can give yourself during a visit to the island, at any time of year. My tour with him is an experience I will remember and treasure throughout my life.

I contacted Michiel after hearing about him from a local and subsequently checking his website. First and formost, I wanted to learn the "tricks of the trade" as I had limited experience in photographing birds. Michiel helped me with my technique and commended me on the things I was doing right! In addition I saw over twenty five different species of birds. Some of the more notable were the ruby topaz and blue tailed emerald humming birds; Aruba's burrowing owl; crested bobwhite, and roseate spoonbill. In addition, we encountered Aruba's native rattle snake, the Cascabel. This was a rare find! Michiel has only seen three in his twentyfive years on the island. Michiel made special effort to position me for optimum photos and show me numerous locations to view and photograph birds. I was very pleased with what I had seen and learned during our five hour outting. Bob R.

My husband and I spent the day with Michiel visiting many beautiful and hidden spots on the island. We are not avid birdwatchers so I was a bit apprehensive that I wouldn’t be able to maintain my enthusiasm for birds for several hours. I needn’t have worried. Michiel is a very committed birdwatcher and photographer and he knows exactly where to find a great variety of birds. As a result, we spend no time lurking behind blinds waiting for a bird to show up. We drove down the back roads of Aruba, enjoying congenial discussions of Aruban history, nature conservation, and politics and bam! Michiel would spot a bird species that we’d never seen before, put his car into reverse, and assist us to point our binoculars in the right direction. We were fascinated! We saw many corners of the island that we would never have seen without Michiel, took some pleasant little hikes, and enjoyed a delightful pastry and coffee stop at a local bakery. After our trip, Michiel sent us an email with spectacular photos of many of the birds we saw. I can’t recommend this tour highly enough!
