About
Built by Spanish missionaries in 1750, services are still conducted in this little yellow chapel that is considered to be the first church established in the Caribbean.

    A Lovely but Quick stop
We stopped at the Alto Vista Chapel on a driving tour of Aruba on a beautiful bright day.  The cute colorful chapel sits in superb desert-like elevated surroundings.  It appears to be a popular tourist spot.  It is free to enter, and we spent a few minutes in silence inside the chapel and strolled around outside the chapel for a little while.  It was an enjoyable stop even though the drive took a while because of the winding roads.

    Church
This small church was a stop on a tour we took. It’s located in the town of Noord, Aruba. It was built in 1750 by the Spanish missionary Domingo Antonio Silvestre. It is also the first Catholic Church in Aruba and still has weekly mass according to our guide.

    Very peacful
Such a beautiful spot for prayer and contemplation! Not the easiest place to find but well worth trip. The inside is very colorful and vibrant, yet not garish. There is a food truck in the front parking lot. A short distance past the chapel is the coast, with it's rocky cliffs and surging waves. The drive here is well worth it.

    Beautiful chapel and labyrinth
This chapel was small but so incredibly beautiful inside. You walked in and felt the peaceful environment and calmness of sitting and praying. The labyrinth outside was so carefully constructed and absolutely welcoming. I walked it barefoot and saw little signs like compassion, peace, love. A hidden gem

The church surroundings are the highlight for me
I don’t see the hype of this church. It’s small. It’s quint. It’s old. Isn’t that a dime a dozen everywhere?! We rented a car and tour the whole island. We stopped at many tourist attractions. Why do I get the feeling that the island of Aruba (with the country’s economic income derived from more than 90% tourism) labels whatever they have as a tourist attraction?! No offense to the country and their history… I feel cheated I’m being charged good money (U.S. dollars) to visit “so called attractions”. The labyrinth and the open field with ocean view behind the church are worth a visit.

On the way to the Alto Vista Chapel, the images of the Stations of the Cross of Jesus Christ are placed. Very special to see. The chapel itself has enough parking spaces and it is best to park the car at the front. The interior is beautiful to see.

This church tucked into a more remote part of the island is so tranquil and beautiful. It's a tiny little space to be with your thoughts. There is even a peace garden behind it offering a place for further reflection. It is definitely worth a stop as you continue your adventure on the northern part of the island. Get off road and enjoy the solitude and beauty.

This was the best Aruba attraction for us (here we don't count beaches).
The Alto Vista Chapel is situated in the island's northwest, and as its name suggests offers elevated views of the surrounding area.
Driving to it is very scenic - a winding road through cactus fields with 13 Crosses along the way, with the 14th cross symbolizing Jesus entombment by the side of the Chapel.
The first original wooden Chapel was built as early as 1750, becoming the first Church in Aruba. Over the decades it's importance declined with new town Churches on the south coast (in today's Oranjestad), resulting the Chapel being ruined in the first half of 19c.
The present Chapel was built in mid 20c with the original altar Cross restored in the Netherlands.

This is a very small Catholic chapel known as Pilgrim's Church. It was very quite and spiritual. We lit some candles and prayed. There are chairs inside and outside the chapel. This was built in 1952 and stands on the hills above the north shore of the sea and to the northeast of the town of Noord. The road is winding and not paved. It has a string of white crosses all along its route. The Chapel was stated to be the location where conversion of Aruban Indians to Christianity started.

This 1952 modern version, built on the site of the original 1750 stone church, is a small and beautiful place of worship. When traveling, I love to include these stops. Spent some time at the "peace labyrinth," located behind the Chapel, with our guide until the noisy crowds left. The now quiet & reflective atmosphere was welcomed. Good location for photos, with some local vendors in the parking area. Considered the first Catholic church in Curacao.

Been to Aruba 🇦🇼 four times over past two decades and visited this beautiful chapel all four times in my rented Jeep.

For the first time, upon arriving in the busy parking lot, was greeted by a bunch of vendors selling everything including souvenirs, tee shirts, license plates, flags, etc. Looked like a flea market right outside the chapel entrance!

This is so sad. Everything being sold here could be bought in downtown Oranjestad in the various gift shops and vendors row - as well as the downtown flea market.

For such a beautiful, tranquil and amazing Aruba 🇦🇼 treasure, this should not be occurring. This is a place for reverence, awe and reflection - not another bazaar.

The chapel itself is beautiful. Great starting point to take a Jeep onto the dusty roads along the rugged northern side of the island.

But, the Aruba 🇦🇼 tourism authority should rethink and relook how this beautiful spot has become yet another knick knack location. As you enter you drive by the Catholic Stations of the Cross by the side of the road, then hit this shopping 🛍 spot in the parking lot, and then can walk over to the chapel. This should not be for such a revered spot.

So, I do highly recommend. But disappointed 😞 this time around. I hope during my next visit it returns to the tranquil spot it once was.
