- oakley 56Bridgnorth, United Kingdom11,254 contributionsBig beach with soft sand.Lovely soft sand here but sandals has dominanted the area spoiling it. If you share a taxi mini bus from St John's port with other couples it's $5 each .each way so acceptable if there's 6 of you. Please be aware that there are jelly fish in the area as my wife was stung so was a crew member from P.O. There's a few places to eat and get a drink at the usual Antiguan beach prices.Visited November 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten November 24, 2023

- Departure138437738555 contributionsGreat visit to Dickenson BayGreat option for a day trip. We went to Dickenson Bay from the Port. We took a taxi. Look for the yellow shirts they are the drivers. It cost$5 a person and About 15 minutes. Rough drive there lots of bumps in the road. On the way back the taxi driver was able to find roads that were not full of port holes. Cost $7. A person on the way back to Port. We went to Anna's on the beach. Great location. Easy walk from the drop off. Chairs were purchased from Louis at $30 and the included the umbrella and wifi. Chairs were not packed in and had comfortable blue cushions on them. We were in front of Anna's restaurant. We had a nice and very slow lunch. About$90 for four light meals (salads, tacos, fries and and four waters,) Bathrooms are ok. Look for a stall with natural light as when you shut the door there are no lights in the bathroom. Definitely would recommend this beach. Beautiful calm water. Sand is not deep.Visited February 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten February 15, 2024

- Pam MSaint Louis, Missouri17 contributionsDickenson Bay - Great Location; Pick Your SpotWe just wanted to taxi to a good beach and viewed a positive internet suggestion to visit Anna's at Dickenson Bay. We learned that Dickenson Bay has a vast array of Beach Bars with their own beach fronts, side by side, for quite a distance along this shoreline. The taxi van was just taking everyone to Dickenson Bay but we were happy when he dropped everyone off right at Anna's. We were greeted at the end of the entrance walk by a nice local lady who indicated we should follow her to a beach chair location. After a little distance away from the main Anna's area I inquired if she worked for Anna's and she said no. Apparently she misdirects people away to the beach bar she owns. Although deceptive, we took a chance & actually ended up staying at her area (just around the bend past a land pier). Food & drink were a little more reasonable (actually opted for a lunch lobster) and the beach was fine. We experienced the whole shoreline of the bay with some long walks that we enjoyed so it was all good. Checked out other pricing along the way to verify we were getting a good deal. Best bet would be to walk up & down the beach when u get there to decide your ideal spot. Sandals Resort is along this beach so you know it's a nice area.Visited March 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten March 18, 2024
- Kerry S158 contributionsBeach bumsThe photos in the brochures and all the reports do not do the beach justice! It is clean. The waters are Caribbean clear and warm. I used the beach a lot as I was staying at sandals which is on this beach. It get very busy at times when the cruise ships came in. There were some beach hawkers as you would expect, but as a female I was left alone and they targeted the male members of the group more so I felt really safe and comfortable. And they were not pushy so they just passed a few minutes of the day with you before moving on.Visited January 2024Traveled with familyWritten March 26, 2024

They'll take you there for 10 dollars return. Get off at Anna's bar. Pay 20 dollars for 2 beds and an umbrella, you also get WiFi here I cluded It's next to sandals so you know it's good. Beach bars and different 'sections' to it so worth exploring up and down the length of the bay. Nowhere was too busy when I was there. Some great places to eat and drink. I was a woman alone and I felt safe and secure. The Antiguan people are so friendly and welcoming and lovely, I felt really at home even though I was on my own.Visited May 2024Traveled soloWritten May 1, 2024
- LisaChicago, Illinois6 contributionsPhenomenal Beach ExperienceWe loved the clean water and beautiful beach at Dickenson Bay. As cruise ship travelers, we only had about 4 hours to enjoy the area, but it was one of our favorite stops on our trip! There are a couple of resorts along the beach with accompanying restaurants and bars that are available to the public plus plenty of beach chairs and umbrellas for rent ($20 cash only). There’s even a swim up bar that you can visit, but it’s quite a ways out there. My husband and I were able to make the swim but most will probably have to take the little boat that goes back and forth. Overall, this beach was amazing and far exceeded our expectations. The only reason for 4/5 stars is the need for ATMs as most of the rentals are cash only.Visited August 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten August 31, 2024

Witnessed twice this week a real disappointment to Dickenson beach. There’s a tall local guy who rents Sun loungers far end of the beach near the pier, blue bases to the bed, saw him threaten a sandals guest over sand on his lounger, very verbally abusive man with a serious anger issue and a chip on his shoulder. My wife, daughter in law and family friend witnessed the same idiot 2 days earlier shouting at an elderly gentlemen over $5 and threatening to physically move him from HIS beach. Not a great example of local hospitality from what otherwise is perfect. Please avoid this person, you can’t miss him, very rude and very direct. Take your business elsewhere, there are friendlier places to rent a lounger.

Dickenson Bay
Whilst on holiday, each day we like to go for a walk
We love the beach, where we can chill out and talk
Dickenson Bay is a great place to stretch your legs
And a healthy walk gets you ready for that breakfast of bacon and eggs
We stayed at sandals and we’d go left out of the hotel, and past the British phone box
Admire the tiki tiki bar that floats in the sea, then walk to the rocks
Turning around, there’s horses in the field up to your right
With Pelicans dive bombing the sea, such a beautiful sight
When we get back to sandals, and the beach flattens out
It’s, on your marks, get set, go, that’s what I shout
A gentle jog then begins and we run to the restaurant that sits in the sea
Turning around and jogging back, the wife struggles to keep up with me
Look out for our new friend, who we met, whilst out on our jog
She joined us for our run, that’s Itzel the beach dog
There’s a little jetty outside the hotel that’s surrounded by rocks
Early in the morning it’s a meeting place for crabs where they all seem to flock
With sand so soft, and sea thats turquoise blue
There are plenty of things ,here that you can do
Jet skies, a massage or even renting a speedboat
Or just take your inflatable into the sea, chill out, and just float
Not sure if the dog has it’s own name but called her Itzel as it means Rainbow in Antigua . The beach is very quiet at the moment in these covid times with not many restaurants open . It is a lovely beach though, well worth a visit. Quite a lot of beach vendors at the moment as not many beaches are open in Antigua . They’re very friendly and will sell you anything you want, but they will also take no for an answer so don’t be put off by them .

We visited Dickenson Bay on a beach hopping shore excursion when our ship, Azura was in port at St. John's. The young lady who was our tour guide could not have worked harder for her money. She danced and partied (and encouraged us to do the same) for the entire duration of the trip. Whilst at Dickenson Bay she found fruit for us to try (native to the island), she waited on us with all kinds of drinks, whilst we just relaxed and enjoyed the beautiful beach. The surf is quite rough (or at least was when we were there), so be warned it's great fun, but totally unforgiving - take care!! A beautiful beach, well worth the visit.

The Angry Sun Lounge Renter ruined the day. He treats his customers inconsistently rather treating all customers fairly. He reprimands certain customers as, completely unprompted. Even when you are paying him for a sun lounger he is grumpy and unappreciative of the business. This is not a way to welcome visitors to the island. This is not what you expect when visiting a beautiful island.

This is a great beach..everyone friendly and lots of great tours by the local vendors.
You MUST visit Dr and Mrs Sunshine aka Kevin and Kas.. They have a great spot on the beach by the gift store and sun lounger rental. They have a wealth of knowledge, always give you a consultation are professional and friendly. Seriously this is THE BEST massage EVER! Many couples booked in together and their sunset time was very popular.

Truly a beautiful beach. We took a regular taxi from the cruise port to the beach, it was a short drive. We rented chairs by Tony's Water Sports Beach Bar and Grill for about $22, and $2 extra for internet. They had good cold beer and really enjoyed walking up and down the beach and the nice ocean sea breeze. The taxi driver picked us at the promised time. Very professional.

We recently visited St John’s Antigua on a cruise. We decided to do our own thing and not go on a organised trip. We walked up the precinct and was approached by an authorised taxi driver (be very wary of any unauthorised ones)! She asked where we wanted to go and wesaid we wanted to go to a beach close by and suggested Forts Bay, but she said Dickinsons Bay was better. We went along with it, later realising she only wanted to fill up her minibus with people all going to the same resort! We arrived and made our way along the beach, and that’s where the fun began! Avoid the area to the right of the Bucaneer Club (looking from sea to land). There was an all out turf war going on over sun beds and umbrellas - and that was the locals! We had purchased our beds and set up camp (all in a row, God forbid if you put a bed out of line!!). some other people came along and did the same and all hell broke loose. The vendor if the beds was offering to fight with the lady from the drinks shack and it only calmed down when security were called. It was intimidating and frightening and left a nasty impression of what should have been a lovely day. We were so glad to get back on the ship! Never again!

We returned for the first time in 30 years, and it felt surprisingly familiar. Siboney beach club and Coconut Grove bar restaurant hadnt changed much, but Sandals was bigger and there was a lot more buildings generally. So the beach was much busier but thats normal these days wherever you go. Its still lovely.
Dickenson Bay is an easy taxi ride from St Johns and the cruise ship port. Its nice to walk round, there's plenty of water sports though some equipment is just for Sandals.
We went back twice during our stay and enjoyed it. Try the floating Kon Tiki bar 50 metres off the beach.

Any recent decent restaurant recommendations not overpriced like hotels

Anna's is right on the beach, Food is OK but not brilliant. Salt Plage is also well located but food is a bit "conveyor belt", If you want good restaurants nearby for dinner (not lunch), get a taxi to Stella Ristorante on Marble Hill. lovely Italian tree house and Karen is a great host. More expensive but very good is Casa Roots five minutes by taxi. Low lights, beachfront setting and very good food and service.

I'm reading no, but need to ensure before boarding flight. I know negative test is required but not sure of anything else.

Hi, maggie363. What would you like to know about this attraction?
Are the sunbeds payable or not ?
Now many metres swim to the kon tiki bar please ?
Thank you
Kind Regards
Written February 15, 2019
The sun beds belong to Sandals and are not available to the public. Chairs and umbrellas are available to rent. Get there early for a prime position. Did not go to Tiki Bar. Drank at Sneaky Petes right on the beach. This is a long beach so if you want to swim to the bar have your taxi driver drop you off in that area. We were at the other end.

Thanks for your help

I cannot advise on food prices as were only on the beach for a day from a Caribbean cruise from the UK We took a packed lunch with us and bought beers from beach bars around $3 each If you search the restaurants in the area you can usually see a link for their menu Enjoy
