Perched around 500 feet above sea level, this provides a great viewing platform for the rest of the island. Look in one direction and you’ll spot Indian Creek, once home to Antigua’s first native tribe. Turn around, and you’ll catch a glimpse of the glamorous Antigua home of musician Eric Clapton. My wife and I took in a visit to the area to see the amazing views available as part of an island tour and really enjoyed the short stop off.

High above English Harbour in Nelson’s Dockyard National Park sits the Blockhouse, a brick ruin fortress. On a perch overlooking the southeastern coast of Antigua, the circa-1787 site encompasses an officer’s quarters and those of servants, as well as stables. An ammunition-storage space, a catchment and a cistern have been restored in recent years. The is a shop and toilets on site. What makes a visit here a must are the incredible coastal views which are not to be missed.

Visited as part of a trip, have been before but got some decent photos, 'Eric Claptons' Home was the main talking point as it bended in with the surroundings.
Just a normal touristy stop for views and photos while on way to Nelsons Dockyard.

This place offers some nice views of southeast Antigua and has the remains of some stone buildings, mainly an officer's quarters and a powder magazine. There is also a refreshment stand. Although the views of the sea are interesting and visually pretty, the building remains are pretty boring. I have posted several YouTube videos of the site for anyone who really wants to see what the place looks like. This was a stop on a Viking tour of Antigua. While the views were fine, I personally would not make any sort of effort or make a special trip to come here--there simply wasn't that much to see. And the views were no better than at many other places in the Caribbean. If you're into Eric Clapton, you can see his house from here.

If you are a Cream fan you will want to visit this place. But you won't get close to Clapton's grand house that blends into the distant peninsula.

Otherwise, the view is nice, but second to Shirley Heights. The ruins of the military buildings are fenced off, in decay, and lack interpretation.

We visited here as part of an island tour to see the remains of the historic Blockhouse, a former armoury and arsenal. This building has stood for centuries and has survived many hurricanes. The views from here are 360 degree right across this part of the island and you can see the Caribbean home of Eric Clapton from here. A great place to see a panoramic view.

There's not much to see other than the block house, which you can take a peek in if you want to. Probably more interesting to naval history buffs rather than your average tourist. It's got a great panoramic view to take pictures, not dissimilar to Shirley Heights. You do get a grandstand view of Eric Clapton's place if you're a fan. Like Devil's Bridge, there are some stalls with lots of souvenirs that are much cheaper than you hotel. Plus you can barter if you like to engage with the locals. They were all very friendly and not pushy.

Beautiful views. Lots of history. It helps if you have a knowledgeable tour guide. The history of this island, like many others, involves lots of back and forth between nations.

We visited Antigua on a cruise ship, from which we did a tour which stopped at the Blockhouse, amongst other places. This site was part of the island's defences, with ruins of soldier quarters remaining here today. There are good views across the Atlantic.
