Difficult to find as the direction signs have been taken down. This is free to get in and they just ask for a donation. First impressions are that it is a bit neglected but talking to the staff they have suffered from a lack of donations due to covid and the animals are obviously cared for, just the enclosures could do with an upgrade. They brought owls out for us to stroke and told us all about them. All the staff were lovely and dedicated. We were happy to give our donation to help them take care of the beautiful birds.

Loved the passion behind the vision.

In an area heavily hit by unemployment social and economic deprivation, it made me realise how much difference we can make by following our hearts and passion and treating those around us ( including animals, birds, the eider environment) with care compassion and respect.

I drove up just to visit the owl sanctuary but thought I would walk around the festival park. So sad to see how hard the area has been hit by so many factors and only one shop open. Such a great opportunity but its so much bigger than attracting shops and visitors. There is much to be understood about social policy , economic development and communities. I was incredibly struck by the local resilient Welsh Community.

Every person I spoke to had such pride for their rich cultural heritage, and without exception they all recognised the impact of social development social expectations and lack of community.

What I witnessed in the Owl Sanctuary was a passion for the birds, a deep knowledge and respect for them.
A commitment to protect them. A willingness to do all of this for FREE at Great personal expense I am sure. With just one hope and vision - to share the beauty with others.

This place blew my mind. I had to stop half way back to the car to reflect on the resilience of the Human Spirit. On the strength of the community. Of communities that know the lived experience of hard hitting trauma, but who still come together to believe they can do good for others.

Certainly not all singing dancing bells and whistles pay an arm and a leg for short term thrill. But it made my heart sing to see such commitment, compassion and dedication.

More than just a place to see owls and other birds of prey; an opportunity to witness the most amazing resilience of the Welsh Community.

I remain blown away and reduced to tears by my visit

Free to enter, but a richness that money can't buy. Well done.

Some beautiful birds in this lovely sanctuary which is clearly owned by kind people. The owners are obviously doing their best, but this place is in desperate need of funding and I was filled with sadness walking around the small, dark, ramshackle cages.

I noticed one of the employees/volunteers was pretty rough with the birds when handling, too, and grabbed the small owl by the chain, dragging him on the floor - he looked very frightened of her. It was quite shocking and made me and my family uncomfortable - clearly an ego issue there.

This is a rescue center for birds which is very good, though cant help feeling a little bit as the cages are a little dark and secluded. A very good selection of birds, though the cage doesn't allow for very good photos. there is a good bit to se though, and they do welcome donations.

Genuinely loved coming here! Only a small owl sanctuary so will only take an hour of your time, free to enter!!!! Great little thing to take kids to or go yourselves. The volunteers really care about the owls and birds here and you can see that they do a lot towards their care, would recommend donating something towards them as they only survive on donations and it is worth the cause! Staff are extremely friendly, knowledgeable and helpful in describing details about the owls and where they are from etc.

Whilst visiting the area for a short break we made a stop at the owl sanctuary on our last morning and we are so glad that we did! As it was just open we were the only people there and Malcolm kindly showed us round all of the birds in the sanctuary, telling us a bit about each of them.
Over 70 different birds, including owls, peregrine falcons, eagles and other birds of prey which were so lovely to see.
Malcolm and the other volunteers are all clearly very passionate about the birds and their care and Malcolms knowledge was amazing.
Surprisingly the sanctuary is free to enter and they rely on donations to help care for all the birds so if you visit please give generously to them as they are doing a great job.
Definitely worth a visit for both kids and adults alike as we were a group of 4 adults and loved it! The sanctuary is fairly small so is not somewhere you would spend several hours but is certainly worth a visit for an hour or a little longer .
Keep up the great work and we will definitely visit again next time we are in the area!

Just a note, park at the end of festival park and walk down as can be a bit fiddly to find but it's most definitely worth it.

Very pleased with our first visit today, there is a good collection of owls and other birds of prey which are clearly well looked after. Although we were unable to handle any birds due to Covid-19 the volunteer was very informative and had three birds out for us to view up close. Our 15 month old absolutely loved it as did we, it's free to enter but donations welcome which we happily gave to support their cause.

This is a small place run by enthusiasts relying on donations to
Survive. The birds are mainly rescued and would not survive in the wild.

Set your expectations - this is a very small place, and we spent around 20 minutes here. However it is clearly run by people who love these birds! There are several different owls here, along with buzzards, harriers and vultures. You can get really close to them and they seem to respond to visitors with beautiful calls.
