Bruton's Little Gem

A wonderful little museum, it's a large room within a building where you can explore the whole history of Bruton. Notable displays are the encased model railway and John Steinbeck's writing desk.
It is free to enter and donations are always grateful but be aware that the museum is only open for a couple of hours on most days as it is run by volunteers.

Right next door to At the Chapel on the High Street. Only a small museum but worth a visit to see the history of Bruton.

Good small-town museum

If you arrive early for a meal in one of the town’s restaurants or want to know something of the local history, it’s a great way to spend half an hour or more. It’s small but has a very interesting collection of local artefacts. Volunteer staff are friendly and switched on the model railway for a young visitor and that was good.

Small museum telling the story of this interesting town. Lots of old photos and items made and sold locally. Enthusiastic and friendly volunteers.

Small museum with older exhibits

This museum is in the High Street and is free entry with donations - exhibitions of Bruton past and would be worth visiting if you have a spare 1/2 hour which we did

Well worth a visit
Jul 2016
The Museum is in the main street well posted and on the day we visited we were able to park free for 2 hours on the road outside the entrance. Disabled friendly and does have a toilet.
Though the museum is small, they do have a very varied selection of items on view, the history of the town is fully explained and the displays range from early settlement to much more recent.
Entry is free, so they are happy for donations. Allow yourself a good hour to read all the literature.
There are several places locally around the Museum to have a coffee or something more, though we bought a baguette and a scotch egg from the local store and stopped just outside the town to eat it, and it was delicious all home cooked.

A small museum
May 2016 • Couples
This small museum is good in a limited way. It concentrates on history with few, if any exhibits on 20th or 21st century matters.
Congratulations to the maker of the scale model of the town - its housing placements and shapes are commendable.
