A wonderful location and beautiful building with a thoughtful and interesting layout somewhat ruined by staff who appear to think they are rather above being polite to the customers.
Anna especially, in the restaurant, is offhand and dismissive, and combined with the hefty price tags for food (£20 for a burger) left us with a bitter taste.
Hauser and Wirth exhibits some important and fascinating works, so go for them, but avoid most who work there.

Lovely gardens and excellent restaurant. The art is ok, not my taste, probably too modern for many and not challenging enough for me. Some say it is expensive, but you get what you pay for.

Nice breakfast stopped off in the sunshine on our way to west bay. Friendly staff and lovely location. Great field for our dog to run around in. We didn't visit the gallery but the farm shop was very nice.

This is a place you really should go when you have the opportunity. It was beautiful, even the weather was good, haha. The garden, the architecture of the building, the gallery and the restaurant were outstanding. This period there is an exhibition with work from Henry Moore. We enjoyed every minute of our visit.

Dropped in for a cocktail and were surprised how many people were there! The clientele is basically North London so those of us who are local can have a giggle at the Ab Fab outfits they arrive in!
I often go to the gallery as you can see a great deal of unfathomable art displayed which is way beyond my understanding, very expensive but fun for a Friday treat.

Boring gardens, wildly overpriced farm shop. Not much art unless you regard oversized stones as art. Outside, the circle of stones looked like something a child might throw together on the beach.

Eye-wateringly over priced. There are three vegan options. One is vegan chocolate, one is chips, one is an aubergine starter. If you’re a vegetarian or vegan then cover your eyes just past the gift shop as they have animal carcasses hanging in a cabinet curing.
There was no gallery yesterday as they are changing exhibitions, but we have been before and the gardens were always both colourful and had artworks. Just one sculpture on show and no flowers.
Bruton has become an uber-gentrified place to live, and the restaurant was doing a roaring trade for people happy to pay £50+ a head for a meal so they can post it on Insta.
I thought that art was for everyone nowadays, but it definitely wasn’t for the likes of me, and unless you are a one percenter it may well not be for the likes of you either.
Go to one of the Tate galleries, feel included and you won’t feel ripped off either.

We went yesterday specifically to visit the garden. We were disappointed - there was very little colour and not a lot else of much interest, unlike the occasions when we have visited previously.
We went to the restaurant to have lunch, but were dealt with very abruptly by the waitress, so left and went elsewhere.

Friends
Impolite waiting staff in the restaurant. The waitress was very abrupt and unfriendly, as if she was doing us a favour. There was no greeting or smile. She just said "Did you book?". We said that we hadn't and she said "Go to the Reception desk".
It wasn't busy, there were plenty of free tables.
As for the shop, very expensive... e. g £6 for a bar of chocolate and £40 for a bottle of wine
The artwork in the gallery was brutal, containing disturbing images of violence and abuse.

Stopped off here yesterday en route home after a short break close by in Frome.
Great Gallery space with knowledgeable and helpful staff.
Awesome Farm Shop with an enticing and interesting range of fresh produce/ drinks/ culinary accompaniments/ utensils etc etc
Farm shop staff were enthusiastic, helpful and friendly and even let us have a free Valentine's decoration when we tried to buy one - super thoughtful and 'made our day !
The Negroni purchased there is also highly recommended.
Coffees at Roth and then back on the road but a really lovely 'stop off' point and definitely worth a detour and probably even more special in the Spring /Summer when everything will be in bloom.

did you travel from london? If so is it difficult to do in one day?

No, I was staying in Frome, about 20 minutes away. Depending on what part of London you're coming from, I'm in north London & reckon it would be about a 3 hour drive.
Yes no menu price's

It has been so hot and dry this summer when would be a good time to see the garden? I'm guessing earlier than usual.

Hi
I would think any time as they look after it so well it’s beautiful there well worth a visit
If you are interested in art and the Calder exhibition is still on I would recommend you to go
Why are the staff so snobby, after all they are only staff not royalty

Not an issue I found when I visited but I presume something was said or done at the time of your visit to give you this feeling. I find that people will / can act in a way that can cause irritation but in most cases only if you let them. If you don't feel up to or not confident enough to challenging the staff member at the time I would suggest some possible courses of action.
1. Don't leave a tip
2. Don't leave a tip and write why on the bill (NO TIP because of rude/ patronising staff etc)
3. As above and speak to the manager
4. Leave feedback on their website as this will give them a chance to respond to you and resolve the issue
Please remember that offense is often taken when never given. WE can also have bad days. How often have you been in an establishment when the staff are working hard an going beyond and its the customers who are the nightmares?
Please be assured that I am not saying that you were at fault in this situation but in short if there is an issue deal with it at the time as it is far easier to get a resolution then and there than to grizzle about it for days and weeks afterwards.
If this was not in the restaurant there would be no tip but still access to a manager.
Is there public WiFi?

Sorry I didn't notice WiFi - however their phone number is 01749 814060 and I'm certain they will answer your question - hope this helps

Can I walk there from the train station?
Not far at all and well worth the visit!
