This viewing point is well worth the time and energy to reach by walking from either the Uetliberg or from Buechenegg. Or you could take the cable car from Adliswil. The views are stunning. Even better is the fact that there is also a restaurant which serves excellent food.

This is the only cable car in Zurich district, it provides a spectacular view of the city of Zurich.
It's a bit of a hike after the cable car ride (5 Minutes long), there is a variety of wonderful restaurants with stunning view.
Highly recommended when visiting Zurich.
Suggestion:
Get 24 hour pass that covers Zone 110,150,155 about 18 CHILDREN, the pass allows you to ride any form of transport in Zurich while it's valid, note: you have validate the pas of you buy it from The vending machines.
The trip takes about 40 minutes.

This cable car was not only unmanned, precise and good fun to take, it also offered a great view of Zurich on the way down.
Would do this again!

I have visited here twice, once driving, the second with public transport. From Zurich main train station find track #1(Shop Ville underground) and take the S4 train direction Langau , exit at Adliswil. From here it’s an approximate 10 minute walk up the hill that is well indicated with signage. If you drive to this destination there are about 25 limited free parking spaces. Here at the LAF Talstation simply show your all zone pass for free entry and access to the liftseilbahn, which runs every 15 minutes Mon-Fri 8a-22:50, Sat 8a-22.50, Sun & Holiday 8a-21.50.
The relaxing ride up or down on the liftseilbahn takes around 5 minutes. There are WC’s at the top and bottom lift station. Once at the top there are several trail markers leading left and right. Heading left after exiting the lift station and a 5 minute walk down the trail there is a restaurant (Gasthaus Felsenegg) with probably the best views of the entire Zurich region and lake, except for the views from Uetliberg. If you continue on this course for another 30 minutes or so along with well shaded trail head there are several restaurants for dining on this trail and it continues on to Albispass which is an additional hour or two. If you are back at the top lift station and head right, there are several trails, one of which heads to Uetliberg, which takes 1 ½ hours. This trail is very smooth (except for a very small section) and can accommodate strollers and wheelchairs. Sections of the trail are shady tree-line, while other sections are open and sunny. One the day of our hike, this trail head was very, very busy with hikers, joggers and bikers.
This trail is a very enjoyable hike with nice views and friendly people all along the trail.

If you want to do the round trip from Zurich via the Felsenegg cable car and Uetliberg, get an Albispass from the station. This covers you for all the transport you'll need in the area for one day. Get the train from Zurich HB and get off at Adliswil follow the signs to Felsenegg. Here you can get the cable car up to the top of the ridge. There is a restaurant at the top which offers fondue. There are a range of walks on the ridge, the most popular is the pleasant walk along the top towards Uetliberg. From there you can catch the train down to Zurich HB again or walk down the hill and catch a train or tram back to town from there. Great day out and wonderful views over the Lake and city. The restaurant at Uetilberg is very civilised and the sorbets are delicious.

Did the "Zürich and surroundings trip" with Best of Switzerland tours from the busparking near hauptbahnhof. A guided tour by bus (and by foot) in the city, ferry from Meilen to Horgen and gondola from Adliswil to Felsenegg. A couple of minutes walk to a very good viewpoint and a restaurant. Gondola to Adliswil and bus back to where the trip started. Our guide named Fernando was good and he easily jumped between Spanish and English. A trip to be recommended for those who want to se a little bit more than the city itself.

We caught the train from the Zurich train station to Adliswil. First we went to Uetliberg, and had a refreshing drink, before embarking on a 2 hour hike along the ridgelines to Felsenegg. The views were wonderful. The nature, superb. Views of Zurich and Zurichsee, and of tree-covered hillsides, and of farms and paragliders soaring in the sky. We ended up at the restaurant which is about 5 minutes walk past the gondola station. More wonderful views. Enjoyed a delicious meal outside on the terrace of the guesthouse, shaded by a large tree, enjoying the scenery.

We took the cable car up with our rail ticket, a short enjoyable ride followed by a 5m walk to a nearby cafe where we sat for a coffee taking in the views over Zurich. Much more peaceful and quiet than Uetliberg and a small park for the kids too. We opted for the same route down rather than the panoramic walk, but I imagine that has some stunning sights over the city.

This a beautiful mountain just outside of Zurich. Took the ferry, and cable car to the top overlooking the great lake and vast countryside. The clean and great sights, its one of the best place to visit for countryside lovers. It's a great experience to visit this place. Have to ask a guide to help us find this place. From cable going down, their is a train that will bring you to Central station

After a nice ferry cruise on the Lake Zurich and a short cable car ride we arrived to Felsenegg! Amazing place far away from the city crowed and agglomeration! I’ve enjoyed the view on the lake, villages around and the Alps on background. There is also ending the trail of a nice hike “Planet Weg” which I’m gonna do tomorrow! As I heard it’s a model of our solar system reduced on a scale of 1:1 billion :) Sounds exiting :)

My husband has a fear of cable cars that sway a lot. What was this one like? And do you recall how many minutes it was? Thanks!

It’s a very short ride, just 5 min and it’s not dangerous as well! By the way, in Switzerland all the cable cars are very safe and nothing wrong can happen!

Another popular hiking route is the Planet Trail, which runs along the ridge from Uetliberg to Felsenegg (Adliswil) and takes its name from the models of the solar system that are positioned along the way. Taking 1.5- 2 hours to walk, the walk is complemented by dramatic panoramic views and conveniently ends at the Felsenegg gondola, so you can catch a lift back down.
What would be the cost of this trip as would like to do this walk also how easy is it for the average walker do you need specific walking boots many thanks in advance
Oh finallly would the zurich card cover this trip
Written February 20, 2015
If you got that far it is almost better to walk down. If memory serves me well it costs 4.50 CHF but I am not 100% sure, it is definitely over 4.00 CHF
It is not too hard a walk if you follow the train track route, I call it. It is a little steep in very small portions but doable by anybody even of average fitness. You can always stop along the way. Once you have got to the UTO KULM it is then more or less flat.
You can walk with running shoes but not with normal shoes as it would be very uncomfortable. I walk almost exclusively with running shoes.
I have never bought the Zurich Card so I cannot answer that part of your question. When you buy the ticket you can ask. I would imagine that the Zurich Card only covers the zone 10 which is the city centre and some outer parts of Zurich.
I hope this helps and you have a really great experience. You will be rewarded by the views at the top. You will feel like you are on top of the world.
