About
The Ecole des Trois Ponts created in 1991 specializes in short-term French language immersion courses for adults, in addition to French language combined with cooking classes, countryside walks or gourmet excursions. French immersion courses are offered in General, Intensive, Private and Holiday formats for all skill levels by professional and native French speaking tutors all fluent in English. During select weeks, hands-on cooking classes with our in-house Chef take place in the afternoons, as guests learn to create French culinary specialties. The Villa Beaulieu is a 19th century country house in the community of Riorges, adjacent to the town of Roanne, near Lyon. Nine guestrooms surround a peaceful, central garden in a quiet residential area close to patisseries, cafes and parks.

I spent two weeks at Ecole des Trois Ponts; one week with intensive French course (group sessions) and one with with private French course. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience and developed my French proficiency a lot! The teachers at the school adapted well to my language proficiency from the start to ensure we worked on the areas where we got most leverage of invested time. We worked a lot on conversational practice, but also with written and oral exercises. Through the course, I immensely improved my comfort level when it comes to holding a conversation, but I also learnt a lot in terms of vocabulary, grammar and culture. In regards to the non-course part of the experience, I really enjoyed the social full-immersion part. We had both lunch and dinner together (students and teachers), we got to know the French culture through discussions and the food we shared, and we had a number of interesting excursions as well. I whole-heartedly recommend Ecole des Trois Ponts to anyone who want a fast progression in the French language in a super enjoyable social setting!

I visited L'Ecole des Trois Ponts for one week, in February 2022, and had a wonderful time! The whole experience is designed so thoughtfully, so that you are immersed in the French language constantly, with plenty of support for learning. The classroom environment was top-notch, as Vincent is a really skilled instructor. I definitely enjoyed having the additional one-on-one hours that came with the "intensive" option. It was also fabulous, and central to the experience at L'Ecole, to have all the other opportunities to practice using French outside the classroom: 3 meals a day (with at least one native French speaker at the table for at least lunch and dinner, and usually breakfast), coffee breaks, happy hours and evenings spent chatting over wine with the other students and instructors, and excursions. And the food was fabulous, ah la la. I'll never forget my first week at L'Ecole, and I hope to have the opportunity to return again one day!

An excellent 2 weeks learning french in small class sizes and with a new 4-course meal every night. I felt totally relaxed here. Its very friendly and informal, but also very professional when it comes to the teaching. I hope to go back next spring for another 2 weeks!

This was my first ever real language school. Apart from some holiday basics picked up during ski holidays, I have only been learning French actively since March 2021 (its now Oct 21). Before this I had completed DELF A1.2 in an online group class with the Institute Francais Ecosse, and DELF A2.1 with iTalki. I had also very rarely travelled completely solo to anywhere outside the UK. To say I was a little nervous and apprehensive would have been an understatement!

First challenge was getting there (especially during COVID). Booking flights is easy enough. Destination airports are Charles de Gaul, Lyon, or perhaps Nice). But France has a well integrated rail, tram and underground network so getting from CDG airport to Roanne was surprisingly easy! (Use the Oui.SNCF app to book train tickets). The school will pre-book you a taxi pickup from Roanne station if you let them know when you will arrive.

I was met at the school at 5pm Sunday by Vincent, one of the younger teachers at the school (and the school Instagram star!). He showed me to my room and left me to chill and unpack before the welcome tour and drinks at 7pm. Dinner was at 7.30.pm. The food at the is fantastic! The lovely chef Rosie prepares lunch every night (except Saturday). Starter, main, cheese course, and dessert with wine. The teachers take turns so that one of them are always sitting with us at lunch and dinner. They can help out with the french conversation for the less experienced like myself.

There were 6 students my first week and 6 the second week. In non-covid time there are typically more, but the classes are always kept small. I had signed-up for 2 weeks 'intensive'. This comprised the standard language course element of 3 hours every morning and 2 hours late afternoon on 2 days, plus the intensive part which was 3 hours 1:1 tuition 2 days a week. The group class had 3 in week 1 and 2 in week 2.

Teaching was excellent. Not scripted or pedantic, but friendly, inclusive and free flowing. It would be a mixture of talking about something, asking and answering questions, reading, pronounciation, word games, and excercises. All in french. Its all very conducive to getting you to converse more naturally and spontaneously in French. First week I was taught by the super nice Vincent, and the second week was the delightful Marie-Christine. I was not taught by the school director, Valerie, but she was equally helpful and supportive at mealtimes and in between classes. The teachers also pay close attention to your French, and will note areas where you need more work. You can also provide them with things you would like to look at more closely (subject to the other students needs, of course)

The other students come from all walks of life! They were all either from the UK or the USA during my 2 weeks. Everyone was very nice, and very supportive. Patient with the less fluent students when they were trying to form a sentence at dinner, for example.

After the course I spent the weekend in Lyon before returning to CDG for flight home. During that weekend I was able to have several short conversations, in French, with the hotel staff and shop and cafe staff! Best part was that they didnt automatically switch to english. (Before the 2 weeks, I could only have ordered a beer or coffee!)

I found the school via a recommendation from France Travel Tips (thanks Jan!). I hope this review helps someone else discover this gem!

I just returned from my first two weeks at L'Ecole des Trois Ponts and I've already made plans to return. My French improved a great deal thanks to the incredible instructors. They are professional and engaged in the success of their students. The chef, Rosie, was amazing - making lunch and 4-course dinners (with wine) each evening. My room was very comfortable. I couldn't have asked for more. I can see why students are incredibly loyal to this school and return time and time again. I can't wait to go back! Thank you Valerie and team for such a wonderful experience. À bientôt !

This was my third time at this school and every time has been a very good experience, that is why I keep coming back, to brush up my French
A small school, but big enough to have classes for different levels in small groups, and the teachers are excellent. They make you feel at home and the athmosphere is very pleasant and friendly.
One can either stay with a family or at the school, both can be recommended.
There is a chef cooking for us every day, excellent food and always a teacher joining us.
I will be back!

I have been to Trois Ponts three times and each visit has been a wonderful experience. The teachers are excellent and there is a very warm and welcoming ambiance. The food is delicious and we spoke French throughout the whole week, fantastic for improving my level in French. I am already planning my dates for next year.

I spent a very enjoyable week at the school. The teaching was in small groups and adult, conversation based. The food was wonderful. The whole environment was pleasant and interesting. And, speaking French all week, I became a more fluent and confident speaker.
I was able to spend my afternoons (on my own) cycling through quiet roads in lovely countryside on a bike that I rented locally.

I have just spent two weeks at École des Trois Ponts with a friend from Sydney. This is a truly professional and friendly school. We were in small classes and therefore able to concentrate on certain areas of the language. The second week we participated in the cooking classes run by an excellent chef. I highly recommend this school if you are looking for a school in this area of France.

I had read all the reviews, which was why we detoured from our original travel plans and i booked a week at the school to progress my French along with my KIWI hubby.
it was wonderful and although a challenging week, with the second canicule in a month and a small class ( and a husband with me who spoke NO french), we had a wonderful time!
everyone at the school is super passionate about helping others to improve their french language and they are so skilled in this area.
i cant speak highly enough of what i gained and the motivation it gave me to take my french further. i will be back 9 maybe without Stephen though)
The meals are delicious and we had fun ( even my poor husband who has forgiven me for immersing him to a week in french as a non speaker)
thank you to you all for making him so welcome and improving my french, Valerie, Vincent, Genivieve,Val, and the chefs

We can highly recommend Valérie's immersion French school to learn or improve your french. We spent 1 week at the school in August 2019, improving our French and enjoying cooking. We thoroughly enjoyed the friendly fun classes. There were 8 people at the school at the time and we were split into different levels to ensure we all progressed. Our group was 4 and the sessions were fun and fast paced. Our tutor, Geneviève, was excellent at correcting our pronunciation, grammatical and vocabulary errors in a variety of fun inclusive ways. Each morning we had 3 hours of French tuition and each afternoon we had chosen to have cooking sessions. The cooking was also in French with recipes provided in French and English. Great fun to cook the meals that we would eat that evening. The food of course was great!
We also had the most amazing wine dégustation session.
Thank you Valérie, Val, Genevieve, Justine, Marie-Christine, and Rosie.
