Beautiful national park with plenty of walks. There was a natural cave park here which was absolutely worth the trip. Only 65k per person and the guide spoke English as well as Croatian. We stayed a few days with swimming and paddle-boarding on the Lika river too.

This really is a stunning and beautiful place with a different feel to Krka which we also visited. Much less commercial and wilder. We arrived early and walked up to the Lagarnica “cafe”. This is a beautiful walk with stunning mountain views but, depending on how much walking you’re used to, I wouldn’t describe it as a ramble, as the path is rocky and steep in places. You also have to allow for the heat, though in fairness much of the path is in shade. There are a couple of beautiful pools to splash around and swim in before you reach the destination which are a great way to cool off for an hour on a hot day.

Be warned, the cafe is very basic and rustic, which all adds to the charm of the place, so please don’t expect an extensive menu but it’s a pleasant place situated by the river to have a drink and a snack.

All in all, highly recommended for the spectacular scenery and great value, given entrance and parking worked out at less than £8 per person. Also worth adding that for more serious walkers than us there are an abundance of other routes taking you higher up to some of the summits.

Paklenica is a beautiful area. The park entrance is 1 km from Starigrad-Paklenica the seaside town. Plenty of camping places.

Walk through the canyon, watch rock climbers, visit the cave tunnel aka Bunker to get a refreshing drink and free movie (in English and Croatian) about the park. Nice way to beat the heat.

Keep hiking to Paklenica Mountain Hut where a cold beverage costs 20 kuna and a room is 90 kuna. But my favorite place is ran by Marijo just a 10 min hike up the trail to Ramica Dvori. His personality will capture you! Check out his family’s ancient home built into rocks-450 years ago.

Stay at his lodge and eat from his black kitchen. Best shower on the mountain!

We are not climbers (family with two children) but still enjoyed the walk through canyon of Velika Paklenica. Mountain walls are stretching few hundred meters high, birds flying over peaks, climbers left and right are trying to reach heights of different levels - we were watching with interest and amazement.
There is also a kind of museum drilled in the mountain tunnels.
We visited the park on the way to the sea coast. We will for sure visit again but having more time available.

tour center built at the highest level. flawlessly organized parking. wide built-up access roads. there are many information boards along the hiking routes. rocky, groomed, maintained paths. we did the tour to the Manita Pec cave. the estimated times to complete the route are very accurate. the cave can be visited with a super, English-speaking guide.

We did one of the official recommended loop Mala Paklenica - Njiva Lekina - Velika Paklenica and came by educational trail back to the car parked in Mala Paklenica parking lot(Seline). All trail loop is about 22km, we did in 9 hours with many stops for photos. The trail is very well marked and it is recommended for advanced hikers. Beware that you will need to climb/jump some boulders and rocks! It starts in Mala Paklenica canyon, where we were completely alone enjoying amazing pristine nature around. Partially, you need to walk through the river basin which is in the winter months flooded, however at the beginning of the spring in starts to dry up so it is possible to walk there. Be very careful and always aware as we experienced some falling rocks (luckily from the safe distance). From Mala you continue to Njiva Lekina plateau and connect to Velika Paklenica were you descent whole canyon to its beginning. There you connect to the educational trail which will lead you back to Seline where is the entry 2 from which we started. It was one of the most amazing hikes we have ever did, however, despite wasn’t the longest, it was very demanding. Definitely, I wouldn’t do this loop oppositely as it looked to me more difficult and less enjoyable. Bring a water, the place to refill is in Velika Paklenica. I definitely recommend to visit this park and do this loop as it is totally worth it as the nature is just wow!

Best people, employees, beautiful nature, best experiences.. Best place for climbing with friends and to have fun. Also for hiking, more than 100 hiking routes with every single one leading to the mountain hut. There works and lives the best dorwoman Irena. It is the place where you can learn new things, try homemade food, sleep and have a nice and chill time.

I was surrprised how well neat this national park is. You have wide way up to “Planinska koča Paklenica” and drinking water and toilets allong the whole way. This way is really undemanding and appropriate for the majority of people. I would suggest to start with the hike in the early morning because it gets really hot at the afternoon. And it is quite the long way.
The only thing which bothered me are the paths to “Vaganski vrh” and “Struge”. Those two paths were really very poorly marked so we had a challenging time to find the way. And if you are affraid of snakes those two paths are not for you.

Do you enjoy a tough walk in stunning nature. A friend and I found Paklenica to be exelent place to visit for a daytrip from Zadar. Entering the park you will see a lot of mountainclimbers getting their fill trying to tame the steep mountainwalls. I`m not in that leage, but its equally nice to explore the lovely mountains following the paths up the hills. You should be in decent shape, and wear some good shoes, but besides this that it should`ent be anything stopping you from having a great day in fantastic nature.
Take the bus from the central busstation in Zadar, and tell the driver to let you out at the main entrance of the Paklenica national park. Walk back the road a little from the busstop and take the road to the left. In a few minutes you will enter the park. It will cost you 60 cuna to enter the park, but its well worth the money. Dont forget to bring a lot of water and some suntanlotion in the worm season. After about an hour and a half you will reach Lugnarica. A nice place to take a little rest and buy a great sausage sandwich and an icecold beer.
If you want a little more adventure you shoud spend the night in the great national park. After about 2 hours of tough walking you should reach a mountainhut called Planinarski Dom. Don`t stop yet. Just 10 minutes of climbing more the scenery opens up in a beautiful view and you will find Ivancem Dom. This is a gem of a mountainhouse with a gem of a host. Franjo Paric will welcome you with great hospitality, and great knowledge of the park. Everything that he is serving you has been transported by donkey up the hills from Starigrad, probably by his father Branjo. Your are not in the lap of 5 star luxury, but the homemade goods served by Franjo tastes great, and you will have a great night sleep - maybe after having been drinking wine from the family farm, with local cheese and cured ham. Lovely!!! Low costs!!!Nice with friends, for a sporty family, or even as a romantic trip. A hidden gem I`m glad to have found, and surely will return to. Phonenumber and website is to Ivancev Dom.

I travelled to and from the park from Zadar by public transport, without any difficulty, especially catching the bus back to town. The park entrance is at least 3 km from the main road, and then there is a further couple of kilometres before the main trail starts. Sooon after the park entrance there is an optional climb to a look-out (belvedere) and that is definitely worthwhile.
A lot of rock climbers use the first part of the park.
The main trail for walkers is the old path through the Velebit mountains in the form of a wide gorge; there are some flat sections, but most of it is up hill. Annoyingly, there are very few places where you get good vistas of the surroundings, because the trees encroach on the view.
It is possible to visit a cave, but I chose not to, thinking I would gain some good views over the park. That was a mistake as the cave was some 500 m above sea level, so I could have had good views and seen the cave, which had a seperate entry charge.
Many of the paths involve walking on embedded rocks, some of which are slippery with wear. I was using a pair of walking boots, which I think are essential, though I saw some in sandals. I also had a trekking pole, which I found very useful.
I did not enjoy my time walking in the park as the paths were quite often arduous and it seemed to be walking for walking's sake with the meagre reward of a few good views.
In my opinion, the park is only suitable or those with their own transport, who are very fit and agile and just enjoy clambering up and down paths in the countryside.
Not a trip I would recommend.
