Wonderful Gallery within the grounds of Kew Gardens
Jan 2021
This is one of the most outstanding galleries on Earth. There are few places you can visit where you can say, without reservation, that you have seen something that is unique. Marianne North's work is exemplary in any setting, but the way it is presented within Kew is astonishing. The gallery is simultaneously informative, beautiful and inspiring. Kew as a whole is brilliant but this is worth the journey alone.

Interesting
Nov 2019
I absolutely loved this gallery and the history of Marianne North, her life and her exquisite paintings of fauna and flora from all over the world. Purchased the book despite its weight to bring home which now has a featured spot on my coffee table.

Art meets plant

Great exhibitions varying through out the year. Chihuly glass to great plant drawings. A great place to go when it starts to rain.

Victorian style gallery
Feb 2020 • Friends
This is a small but quant gallery set out in Victorian style. The walls are crammed full of the painters work with no space left unadorned. Definitely worth taking the time to admire the work here if you are visiting Kew Gardens.

Small Gallery packed with plant paintings
Feb 2020
This is a specialist gallery. Plant paintings by Marianne North. The paintings are very densely displayed and the gallery is very much a product of its time. It has seating and toilets and is a good rest stop. If you are a fan of plant paintings this is for you.

All her pictures are wonderfully detailed

There is so much to see in Kew Gardens but this is a must, particularly if it starts raining! There is also a new playground for children, divided into different age groups, but it's popular so it's advisable to book in advance (it's free once you're in Kew Gardens!)

Just plain blew my mind
Nov 2019
Intrepid explorer Marianne North traveled the globe painting furiously and exploring like Burton and Speke. Fearless and wildly talented, she painted 1000 oils of plants and landscapes, all housed at Kew. Her prolific output is hard to comprehend.

If you want to see what a driven and superbly talented human being can do, see this collection. It really truly blew my mind. I was actually in tears at the wonder of it all.

Excellent

This amazing building is tucked away in Kew Gardens, once you are in the gardens entry to the Gallery is free. Marianne North was a wealthy Victorian Lady who spent many years travelling the world, painting what she saw. She also discovered quite a number of plants. When she became unwell, and returned to England, she paid for the gallery to be built.
Most of her paintings are on the wall in this building. The expression floor to ceiling must have been coined for this place. There are over 800 paintings. Even if you don’t like paintings you should at the very least look through the door.
