I only wish we could have been in Buccoo for the races, during Easter. The stadium is very nice, and I'll bet the crowds are enthusiastic. I DID see someone swimming with their goat, and asked about it. He said he was a racing goat, and it was good excercise for them.

This is a must if you are visiting over Easter. We took our family for the day and it was brilliant, don’t think it was advertised much as I read it from a tourist book. Luckily we watched the carnival beforehand, that was by chance as didn’t realise it was on. It started about 11am so if you do decide to go get there early to watch the spectacle of colourful costumes, Caribbean music and fun. You have to pay to get into the stadium which was about 60TT per person. Once inside there are food stands and craft stalls. Loads of nationalities were there to watch and before the races they had many beautiful women dancing wearing colourful costumes.

The goat races started and we were amazed at how athletic and serious the competitors were and, oh my! They run soooo fast!! All round I recommend a day at the goat races.

This is a very unusual site to visit: not everywhere in the world it is possible to find a full stadium dedicated to goat racing! Grounds are very well maintained and used during the year for other events. Of course the goat racing are the most wanted and attract a lot of visitors, together with all the rest what Buccoo Bay Village has to offer!

From street food to fine Italian dining, wine shop, massage therapist, lunch on decks, breakfast shops, direct boat tours to the reef, tourist center, archeological itineraries at La Tartaruga restaurant and of course lot of courtesy from the villagers and great sounds from the multidecorated panyard!

A stadium just for goat racing...surely not!
But yes, racing with shoeless jockeys running alongside sporting silks.
A great night with the locals

The goat racing in. Buccoo is a very unique experience. It has a very long tradition which has been passed from generation to generation. With modern times an great structure ‘Integrated Buccoo Beach Facilities” host the scheduled events and provides all the services and amenities to the visiting public. The grounds are very well kept, ,in particular the grass of the running field with its starting gates for the goats and their respective jokey barefoot, young and fast to be able to keep the contact with their goat, through a rope, without slowing the goat down. The goat and the jokey have to cross the finish line together. Last Wednesday a special race was staged in occasion of a UK film crew visiting Tobago for the day!

Its a novel local experience with all the required comforts. Great 'street food', Comfortable seating, wonderful local entertainment. There are about 13 goat races that start at about 1pm. Get there with your picnic basket and drinks or purchase at the venue.

This is a definite must see if it's on when you're there. It's great fun and quite amazing to see the preened and shined goats all lined up with the owners/trainers and then belting down the track. The crab race is fun too.

I was recommended this place but could have easily given the miss. The goat race is not particularly exciting, and most o teh calypso music was taped, with some additional music on steel drums, the best contribution of Trinidad and Tobago to music
