We brought a paddle board to explore the area. You can supposedly rent kayaks from the nearby Les Tipaniers resort, but they were closed the day we tried for bad weather. The 2 motus are close by from the public beach and can be reached by kayak in 10-20 min. The snorkeling between these is supposedly very good, we came in the evening when the lighting wasn’t as good but it was still enjoyable. The coral is slightly deeper here in some spots (7-20’ deep) for people who like to dive down or just not be right on top of it, rather than being right over shallower reef. The sandbar where sharks and rays gather can also be reached from the public beach, but it is definitely a further ride with some current and we would go by boat next time instead of paddle board/ kayak.

One word of caution about the park: the signs posted say that it closes at 5:30, and they are serious! We accidentally lost track of time and arrived at 5:45 to find our car locked in the gated lot. Thankfully, a park officer came by between 7:00-7:30 to do a check and was able to let us out of the lot, mauru’uru!

Tiahura is a motu not far from Les Tipaniers. It is next to Fareone, and between the two motus is channel with great snorkeling. We kayaked over from Fenua Mata'i'oa (about 20-30 minutes) on two occasions and spent the morning and afternoon there. We pulled up the kayaks on the sandy west side of Tiahura past Coco Beach Restaurant, and left them there while snorkeling. The two days we were there it was quiet and hardly anyone came through. We found the best snorkeling in the middle of the channel and towards the reef end. Look for buoys where tour boats tie up … there is usually something interesting close by. Motu Fareone looked like it might get more tour traffic … there were more places for cooking picnic lunches, etc. We brought our own picnics, but if we had brought some money we would have tried Coco Beach Restaurant on Tiahura, that was open one of the days we were there. This area didn't have the dense coral or sea life that we saw in the Lagoonarium, but it was a fun paddle out there and there was plenty to see over a wider area. I believe you can also rent kayaks at Les Tipaniers, or catch a boat to Coco Beach if you eat there.

We rented a motor boat one day and went to the motu Tiahura. Our house owner told us that there is Coco Beach Café, but we need to book the restaurant in advance and to check when open. It mostly opened on Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, Sat, Sun for lunch only. We went on Wednesday in March. It was 3 of us; we made reservations for lunch in advance. We don’t speak French, manager of the property where we stayed made reservations for us.

Food was delicious, service was very good. The setting is absolutely beautiful. Color of the water is breathtaking. The beach in front of Coco Beach was one of the best beaches in Moorea. This motu and this beach are definitely worth the visit. We seen a lot of fish here including sting rays, but snorkeling between the motus is definitely the best. We snorkeled here 2 days in a row. One day we came by ourselves and next day we came for Helmet Diving with AquaBlue Company (located in InterContinental hotel). We dived here with helmets; it was absolutely amazing experience – out of this world – surrounded by fish and coral! Amazing! Highly recommend! After diving we also had time for snorkeling again. Water is very clear, interesting coral, a lot of fish, we even saw Moray Eel.

I am surprised that this place doesn’t have more reviews. This motu Tiahura is definitely one of the highlights of our trip to Moorea. Highly recommend it!

We rented kayaks at a stand on the beach at Tipanies and traveled to both Motu's. Coco Beach restaurant is located on the larger Motu, however, they were not open when we were there. The rest of it was primarily overrun with boat excursion tours who had staked claims on different parts of the motu's to entertain paying customers. Hence, the signs "Prive!" (private). There is a nice lagoon between the two islands which offers great snorkeling if you can find a place to land your kayak or just do what others do and go with a boat tour group. Beautiful palce to see but had wished it was more public. Renting a kayak and eating at the Coco Beach restaurant would be an option also, but you may want to inquire about their hours before going.

Nice beach with large adjacent park. Great sandy lagoon area that would be great for kids. Had to swim out a little ways to get to the coral but nice once you get there.

If you are going to Tahiti, you must must must go to the islands that are not the main island (which is the case for any other island countries like Fiji, another fantastic island for scuba diving and snorkeling). Moorea exceeded my expectations and we had a blast in the prestine waters.

I really enjoyed my time there, swimming around with the sharks and rays was better than I expected. I didn't go out with a tour, a hired a small boat (very small) and motored out myself, that cost 7000Fr. I was able to stay as long as I wanted, although the sharks have learnt food is only available when the larger tourism boats are there and leave the area when the tourism boats leave.

Great place to visit with kids too, probably the best thing to do on Moorea.

The beach is a little gem! Yes it is so tiny but I went there on Saturday and there was still place for me! The sand is incredible SOFT, I couldn’t find a better one (on Moorea, of course). The water is really clean and full of any kind fish. I have been walking for almost 10 minutes without sinking. The beach is located inside of a park, that closes at 17,30. At the entrance a guard will welcome you. Free toilet, showers and tablets are provided. A shopping center is few meters away. Enjoy the day in this beautiful beach!
