Beautiful beach, loads of parking, surf school/hire, great waves, great little snack place with lots of seating in and out of sun. Amazing “special one” burger, good menu and very good prices. Chilled atmosphere, stunning views

The beach is beautiful and out of season (November to May) its a great place to surf and enjoy using the ocean. In the summer months, the local surf schools who (own) the beach make sure that you can't even teach your own family and friends to surf there without moving you on. The vibe is quite often negative. Its a big shame.

Spent a most enjoyable day on this beach. The waves are fantastic and my husband and kids spent hours in the water with the body boards. I would recommend hiring wet suits for the day (€10 each for the day), bring a packed lunch and enjoy a days fun on one of the best beaches in Portugal

Having been along the sourthern coast up to now we fancied a trip to a western coast beach and this was the closest one.
It is not too far along a reasonable track from the road and there is a large car park but even this was struggling for space.
This was the only day out of 11 that it was not full sunshine - not sure if it was just being on the west coast but it was partly cloudy with a good breeze - made a bit of a change! The waves were also the biggest we wad seen in the Algarve.
In spite of this (and it being a large beach) it was very busy, particularly at the start and with surfers. However further down it was quieter with some good sand dunes and a scramble up to the cliff with some good views.
Worth a visit but not our favourite!

The beach is really nice, whether you are a surfer or not. If you look for something more, there are nice walking trails you can take along the cliffs, to enjoy the landscape, and the view over the sea. Plenty of parking area.

I don't want to share this secret.. but there are no awful blocks of apartments, hotels, souvenir shops or acres of eateries.. just perfect sands and a surfer's paradise. You can get a coffee and a beer from two places and that is all. Long may it stay so.

Although this beach is popular with surfers, we found it great for a stroll in the late afternoon. It wasn't busy and was fun to watch the would-be surfers in the sea. Walk along to the end of the beach and you will find some interesting rock formations and green coloured striations in the rocks. Easy to find on the road north from Sagres and then down a winding side road.
Recommended.

During our drive from Sagres to Lisbon, we tried to hit as many beaches as possible. We found that most are off the beaten path and not all beaches are clearly marked. The first we came upon and decided to visit wa Amado Beach. A winding drive through the hills with not much around and out of nowhere a full parking lot bustling with all walks of life overlooking a breathtaking beach and a surfers paradise. A bar, restaurant, surf shop and beautiful scenery. My husband ended up renting a board for a couple of hours and I relaxed and people watched on the beach. This beach had a mix of people and my husband said he felt like he was in Huntington Beach, CA. If this kind of laid back scene set against the beautiful beaches and cliffs of the Portgual Coast is your thing then do NOT miss this beach. It's this beach that made me decide that we would come back to Portgugal, forgo town and city hopping and rent a house in the Algarve region and do nothing but beach hop and relax.

Praia do Amado has several surf schools (Algarve Surf School is the best), but the beach is so big so you can surf where you like. It’s clean and people take care of the beach by not leaving any garbage. You can run on the surrounding hills or take a walk to get the amazing views from the cliffs. We come back every summer.

I am from Jbay which means waves are king. These are powerful giving a nice drag and ample sets. Water quite cold and on the windy side of the algarve. Lots of free parking, but no petrol station nearby so go with enough fuel.
