The centro Puma is a great place! I explored the place while I was in the spanish school in Altagracia and it was so much fun that i spent almost all my afternoons in the project.
Jeff (the owner) is a super nice guy and you can do a lot of different stuff there.
They have an organic garden. They make organic coffee and chocolate and they do a few different tours on the island. There is even a book exchange.
But the best thing is that it's a place where you can easily connect with locals. There are always children around and two times per week is an english cafe where locals come to learn some english and you get to know more about the local life and culture while even improving in spanish. It was great and if you're interested in a local experience you definitely have to go there!

On the recommendation of a local guide (gracias Hector!), we made our way to Centro Puma. Centrally located in Altagracia—a block north of Parque Central, centre staff welcomed us into its attractive open-air cafe. Jonathan whipped us up a fresh cup of organic coffee made to order: Hot and strong, yet so smooth that we didn’t want to dilute the taste with milk. We also enjoyed cookies that are baked on the premises. One of the centre’s founders, Jeffry, showed us around and introduced us to the variety of shade plants and edible greens growing in the large walled garden. He even harvested some oranges, which he squeezed to give us a taste. We chatted with Arlin, an experienced Ometepe guide who has been one of the leading lights behind Puma. It was rewarding to listen to his stories and learn more about sustainable tourism development. Visiting on a Saturday afternoon enabled us to sit in on an English class for a few local youth. We also participated in the centre’s weekly “English Cafe” where we enjoyed meeting more Nicas who show up for conversation in English. It was rewarding to see how Centro Puma is a win for locals, a win for tourists like us and a win in the long term for Ometepe’s future!

Food: yummy. Garden: green. Butterflies: everywhere. Hammock: cozy. Vibes: chill. Coffee: scrumptious. Bread: homemade. People: friendly. Outdoors: shady. Veggies: fresh. Cats: adorable. Library: stocked. Ukulele: in-tune. View: gorgeous. Birds: in harmony.
I don’t know what else to say… other than this is the only place in Altagracia to get yourself an ICED coffee, enjoy a chill environment, chat with locals and tourists alike, read books, play with legos, jam on the ukulele or guitar, and have the best-ever gourmet grilled cheese that will (guaranteed) blow your mind. Come chill.

I traveled through whole centreal America and I have to say Ometepe was one of the nicest places I have ever been. I went to a small village called Altagracia and fell immediately in love with it. The people there were so kind and helpful. A friend of mine I went there to visit the island and to attend spanish class for one week. During our time there we attended the classes, explored the island and if course we went to the library. We went to the library to improve our spanish but the people there were so nice they even helped us with that. They also got free water to refill your bottle there and we were lucky to try their homemade wine. We even were allowed to use their bikes in the storage for free to explore the island and at the end we just donated some money in there box. So if you go to ometepe you should definitely spend time at their library.

Living in Ometepe for many months, I found Centro PUMA to be an innovative and welcoming base that provides a resource for visitors and locals alike, and spent many days there. More than just a place, Centro PUMA is a concept - that cultural exchanges can be experiences of shared learning and teaching, and that the natural wonders of Ometepe offer valuable experiences for locals and visitors of all ages and backgrounds. The center is conveniently located on Ometepe in an area that does not receive the majority of foreign tourism, making it a particularly special find for foreigners looking for an authentic opportunity to spend time with locals. You can also get some great advice from locals on what to do in Ometepe, and they can help you find guides to enrich your experience if you want. There is a small but wonderful library, with a super fun atmosphere for children. Centro PUMA is building and evolving from the collaborative efforts of locals and foreigners - stay for a while in a comfy chair or hammock, and ask for the story! I highly recommend dropping by! (from a solo, active, female foreigner in my 30s)

Earlier this year we fell in love with Ometepe Island and decided to stay. Soon after we discovered Centro PUMA and started teaching (KK((K there. We were not only welcomed but made to feel part of the community. Today i think of returning because the experience was so authentic. Just as poverty is never far away on Ometepe, so it goes for love and appreciation. Bridging cultures is such a powerful experience, yet no prerequisite is required except an open heart. Thank you to all voluteers and students of Centro PUMA

Wow! Great and very tasty vegetarian food and drinks. We had an iced coffee with milk and the banana chocolate shake with banana bread cake... Before that we had falafel and a hummus platter. Very tasty and we would definitely go back. Very friendly service and a lovely atmosphere in the garden.
