The pyramids are included in the day tours but you can do them yourself as most of the tours only have Spanish speaking guides or you'll pay double for a English speaking guide.
Cost of entry is 8 Soles each for either the A circuit or the B circuit, or 12 Soles each for both. Just get the A circuit, as B is not worth it.
At the site there is a small 3 room museum. It OK and only takes 20 minutes or so to go through. After that head off to the viewing mound for photos of one of the pyramids. Some stop there but the path at the base of the viewing mound continues on. It's a 10 to 15 minute walk to the base of one of the pyramids and then a reasonably steep climb to 3 lookout points on the pyramid. It's worth it but it's steep and a small section is unpaved and Rocky. Views of the other pyramids are very good though.
To get there yourself catch a colectivo to Lambeyeque from Av Pedro Ruiz in Chiclayo. It costs 2 Soles each. They stop at the street leading to the Museo Tumbas Reales de Sipan, which is well worth a visit. Anyway from here you catch another colectivo to Tucame for 2 Soles each. If yotask the colectivo tout they will point out the street for the pyramids or use MapsMe. It's a relatively easy 2km walk to the pyramids or a 3 Soles mototaxi ride. Just do the reverse on the way back.

Go with AC Tours (Lima) and Ms. Sisi and you'll get the best available Service by an "almost" archaeologist.

We stopped at this site as a part of our Moche Route by GreenTracks. We didn't spend much time mostly walked around and got some interesting perspectives of the ruins. I was continually amazed by the work done by these people and so happy for the investment being put in to maintaining it.
The small museum has very fine pieces collected. This walk through does not take a lot of time but a vital part of the Moche Peoples.

Tucume, the site of the capital of the former Lambayeque/Sican civilization, is a vast complex of 26 pyramids built around La Raya, the sacred mountain. The 10th century pyramids, constructed of mud-brick are severely eroded due to severe weathering over the years. In my opinion, they are unrecognizable as geometrical pyramids unless you are really up close. You basically have to use your imagination to "see" them as they were in the distant past and not as they are now. You can climb the mountain half-way up and view this huge site from afar -- but it doesn't get any better, they still look like withered mounds rather than pyramids. Tough there is current archaeological activity here, I did not see any major wall art or significant designs (unlike Trujillo's Huaca la Luna).
Nevertheless, this is a significant historical site and should not be missed. There is also a site museum. I rated this site as a 4 out of 5 but I believe that I was a bit generous.

The Tucume Pyramids and museum are one of the best cultural and historic attractions in the area. I also recommend going to the Sipan Museum a few km away from Tucume, in Lambayeque city.

We´ve gone here many times but recently we went back and were impressed by the improvements. There is a museum on site with three pavilions of artifacts and videos, all in both Spanish and English. You kind of need a vehicle to travel from where you buy tickets, back to the museum, up to one of the pyramids, back to the hike up to the lookout. That hike is really easy as there are steps all the way, and for those who want a bit more, there is a point even further. Interesting activity for one to two hours. Tickets: $4 for adults, $0.50 school kids

A place to skip!!! It can get extremely hot there, and there is not much shade, we booked a guide and she basically just told us what we could read on the boards anyway. A waste of time and money.

This place is just off Lambayeque (you can go there from Lambayeque, by bus) and has a large open air visiting area, as well as a museum.
The overall maintenance level is good and there are a lot of indication and learning tables, for a very positive experience about the pre-Inca civilization in north Peru

I have to say that I didn't know about this place before, I didn't imagine this kind of culture we have in Peru. This place is enormous and climbing to the top will take your breath away but the moment you'll get there you will see the greatness of this people.

Visiting these ruins gives you an idea of the vast populations that once lived here. Amazing. Never crowded.

What is the web address for AC tours (Lima) that you recommend for Lambayeque? There are several tour companies with similar names.
Many thanks.
