Sadly there are not too many attractions in St. Michel de Maurienne, a town struggling with the motorway now passing them by. We were having a rest day in St Michel while on cycle holiday so visited the Alu Museum and were impressed. Good informative displays, well set out, nice variety. Worth a visit (about 1 hour is needed).

Went with 2 small children on a rainy day, it was really well laid out, excellently designed, interesting, interactive with lots to watch, pull, press and dress up. I would highly recommend as a place to visit. Under 6 go free and 2 adults was only 11 euros. A nice small shop at the end. Overall a great visitor experience!

The only aluminum museum in the world, and it was absolutely gorgeously constructed and a blast to tour. We were here as a group and had a private tour and lesson, but we just wanted to explore on our own. As someone who lives in a highly industrial area, it was very interesting to learn about the industry, the good and the bad. It was fascinating to learn about aluminum itself and how the manufacturing/mining of it occurs and has changed over the years. It was well worth the visit. The gift shop was superb. It's a do not miss if you are passing through this area of France and need something to do inside one day or during an afternoon while waiting to eat again... :)

This museum was part of a day excursion that friends from our village organized. This museum is for real science buffs and wannabes. Explained are all aspects of the process to turn bauxite into aluminium. The guides are extremely knowledgeable, ours having worked in the industry and the area most of his life. The museum is very interactive - fun for older children. There is also a very attractive room showing the various products that are of this material. Even bought two small souveniers for my grandchildren.

Great exhibits on the extraction and production of aluminium (great for curious science students) combined with a history of the local region.
