My husband and I enjoyed our stop at Fort Pickens. It was early in the morning on a week day, so we were one of the only people there. We did the self-guided tour through the grounds. We are avid national park and historical site visitors and this one is pretty good, but not incredible. You don't need more than... More

To get to fort Pickens is a nice drive along the most beautiful emerald green water you have ever seen. Then you find the fort. You can feel the history all around you. The government kept the Apaches there for their own reasons. And the museum is lovely. Not real large but we'll done. You can stay at the camp... More

My kids (13 and 6) really enjoyed visiting this piece of history and going through the self guided tour. I see that one reviewer has complained that it is 'disrepair' but this fort was built in 1830 so that is to be expected. I would hate to see it restored and take away from the natural beauty, the battles, and... More

The drive out to Ft. Pickens is the highlight of the trip. The Fort itself, and the surrounding gun emplacements, are interesting but not for much more than an hour. The fort is is disrepair. There are ranger programs available but get there early to take advantage of them.

My two small boys, my mother and I loved visiting Fort Pickens. We spend a total of about 3 hours there. We did the self-guided walking tour and found it very interesting. The boys loved running around and exploring the tunnels and hallways and climbing to the top of the fort by the cannons. It was pretty warm, but we... More

This is our second trip to Fort Pickens and we just love the self-guided tour. We walk through the different rooms and areas of the fort and we are always so amazed at what rich history there is here to learn about the Civil War and about how the Indians were treated.

My family enjoyed taking in a bit of history here at Fort Pickens. My husband and son tried to visualize how the cannons were loaded. Affordable and a scenic drive. Would recommend a visit if you're near the area. We spent about 75 minutes there, then drove back to Destin.

We were staying at the campgrounds outside of Fort Pickens and rode our bikes on the bike paths to get to the Fort. There are also walking trails to get from the beach/campgrounds to the Fort as well. It was a really good time walking around the old fort, figuring out what different areas were used for, how it was... More

It was interesting to tour such history at your own pace, seeing something that has withstood so much time and still a great place to visit. The views from the highest points offer some of the best beach photos around, highly recommend if you want a great sunset photo.

Planned to spend an hour but stayed and explored trails and battlements for 1/2 day. Then we explored the nearby beaches and walked in solitude.
