Visitors can take a self-guided tour of this authentic fort active during the Civil War and later used as a jail to hold the infamous American Indian chief Geronimo.

Favorite for history buffs and photographers. Lots of games great for young historians. Fort Pickens transports to an earlier time of our great country.

Our family is really into history and we loved this place. Old cannons, tunnels, and ruins of a castle/fort is great fun for us. If you are in the area it is neat to check out but you will need to pay to enter the...More

Great place to find a stretch of beach to call your own or share with a few. Beautiful water, sand, and depending on day may see a flyby from the Blue Angles.

Just a 3 and1/2 hour away from New Orleans to paradise! The RV park is wonderful and clean. It sits between the sound and the Gulf. It has a convenient store on site with a laundry mat on site. The fort has history from the...More

I had to kind of coerce my family to go here because they pictured it being a bunch of rocks, but it was really neat. You can actually walk through most of the fort and see where people slept and see the cannons that remain...More

Some of the most scenic views of all the area! I've been to Ft. Pickens 3-4 times and I enjoy it every single visit. The place always seems to not be packed and there is always a nice breeze. Such a cool place to visit...More

Went out to see this one cloudy afternoon and enjoyed the self-guided tour of the fort. The rangers were friendly and knowledgeable. It was pretty warm and humid, but overall a nice way to spend a day in the area besides the beach! Would recommend...More

I found it a bit expensive for a one day trip -$15 per car. But since we were leaving on a late flight the same day, it was worth seeing! The normal cost is $15 per car for a 7 day pass. The beaches were...More

I've lived in the panhandle most if my life and only recently got to visit the fort. I loved all the beautiful scenery, the opportunities to explore and the feeling of history you get waking through the grounds.

The sign read dogs not allowed, however we saw a few people with their dogs that weren't service dogs. Sorry that's not super clear.
Our you allowed to put up a tent on the same site as your camper or is it just up to 8 persons per site???

I am not sure either, but the sites are pretty small, and we would not have had much room for a tent.

I'm a little confused. We are planning a trip to Pensacola in early June, but several of the sites say different things about the beaches/attractions. For instance, how do I get to Fort Pickens and is there a beach within walking distance? How do I get to Santa Rosa Island (or is this the island that Fort Pickens is on? One site said that some of the better islands are only accessible by boat. If this is so, where do I find this information? Thanks in advance!

We went to Ft. Pickens for spring break this year, and it was great. We camped and both the beach and bay were an easy walk. One of the things I liked we we had to pay $15 for the week for access. This kept a lot of... More
