It is a strenuous day hike of 16 miles if you hate going downhill like I do. For fit trail runners it is probably a walk in the park for 3-4 hours. We took over 10 hours to... read more

This is really nice hike. But it is too long a trail with good views only in last 2 hours of hike. Also the information suggests 1000 ft. net decline. But before that you have 1000 ft descend and then 1000 ft ascend. So just be careful not to expect only a descend. Also take a lot of water if... More

It is a strenuous day hike of 16 miles if you hate going downhill like I do. For fit trail runners it is probably a walk in the park for 3-4 hours. We took over 10 hours to finish, the last 1 mile of switch back zigzag was especially grueling. However, I still highly recommend this trail, and would happily... More

While I have hiked this trail from the top and from the bottom, there is a small portion in the middle that I haven't seen. From the bottom, it accesses Angel's Landing trail, and provides the approach for Behunin Canyon which I have hiked/rappelled down. From the top, hiked several miles along the trail and then cutoff to Heaps Canyon... More

We made it 2 days hike, by camping on top on the mountain and adding Angel's Landing to it. It is a beautiful trail from start to end, we hardly saw anyone else on the trail and we had campsite to ourselves. Fall colors, crip air, canyon.... everything so serene and perfect.

Me and my college friends did this hike over our spring break, we took a shuttle to the north entrance, started with the la verkin creek trail and ended up on the West Rim. Spent 3 nights on the trail, ended in the main canyon (right by angels landing). Long tough hike but very worth the effort. Incredible views and... More

I did the Lava Point to Grottoes hike in one day. I used Zion Adventures as shuttle that dropped me at Lava trailhead just after sunrise. The hike itself is gorgeous with awesome views. I only saw two hikers. I reached the main canyon after 5h30 of hiking. Once you reach scout's lookout, you can go down and finish your... More

Beautiful view along the whole way, this 16-mile trail gives you a different prospective of the beautiful landscape from up high and down low. There are a few steep spots that would keep your heart rate way up but it's all worth it. You can do this trail in one long day; however, 2 days is highly recommended so that... More

Amazingly beautiful and nicely maintained trail. My first backpacking experience. Rather easy hike the entire way, but we made it a little more challenging by adding a detour onto Angel's Landing. SO WORTH IT!

Hiking this trail will require two cars or hiring a shuttle service, to transport you to Lava Point or drive you back to your car in Zion Canyon. I did the 14 mile trail as a day hike from Lava Point back down into Zion Canyon terminating at the Grotto shuttle stop. I would not recommend attempting this as a... More

Starting the West Rim Trail was easy - don't go back downhill when you are at Angel's Landing. There is a sign that directs you uphill and you enter a totally different world. Almost immediately, the throngs of tourists heading to Angel's Landing are gone and are replaced by nature. At the same time, you enter what feels like another... More
