It was a wonderful 52 mile ride up and then back. Saw bears and deer all along the way. Topped off by a great dinner at Big Meadows. There are great pull off spots every few miles besides the campgrounds and parking lots for hikers. Speed limit 35 mph so don't go unless you have time to enjoy.

We were fortunate to have absolutely clear weather during our visit to Shenandoah and to be there during a week with fewer visitors. The time we spent hiking and driving here was the best part of a trip from CT to TN. We were able to listen to the sound of nature - birds, the wind in the trees -... More

This drive is awesome. It has spectacular pulloffs for viewing the valleys on both sides of the road. There are many hiking trails as well as the AT that cross the highway.

The views from Skyline Drive are exceptional. It is hard to drive because you want to look everywhere! Thankfully there are lots of pull offs. The views of the valley are plentiful! Enjoy!!

Best scenic drive - nice views and greenery If you are visiting in summer or early fall - high probability of watching bears and other wild animals. Ensure distance from them and do not try to feed or go near wildlife. You may take either North or south route, both are scenic and have plenty of side stops where you... More

This 109 mile highway offers panoramic vistas of the Blue Ridge as well as the surrounding valleys and communities. There are numerous trails, historic sites, and waterfalls that are accessible from the numerous parking areas. Lodging, gas, and food is also available at certain points. I suggest getting a map and tour book to help you plan your visit.

This drive is one of the treasures of the Eastern US! Wildlife and forested hillsides views are as lovely and peaceful as the distant views.

I would go there every weekend if I could, just love it up on the drive. It is a very peaceful and pretty place to visit. Depending on the season, it can look different every time that you go. Next free weekend, you will probably find me there.

1 awesome place to ride. Exquisite views. No lights or stop signs. Gas at Big Meadows. A great side trip at the Thorton Gap entrance. If you leave the park go left, but be careful! Wiley Coyote type roads.

Our Skyline Drive end-to-end trek in our Mustang convertible (top down, of course) was highlighted by a late lunch at Blue Wing Frog restaurant in Front Royal, Virgina at the northern most point of the Shenadoah National Park and Skyline Drive. Skyline Drive is simply gorgeous and should be enjoyed during multiple seasons of the year. We visited mid June... More
