Beautiful Fall visit is always gorgeous with numerous overlooks. But don't neglect the other seasons. I went on a summer day and it was 20° cooler on the higher ridges with tons of beautiful butterflies. There's something different for every season.

My wife and I have driven The Skyline Drive several times but never in the fall. This was the best of all but bring a jacket - and bring a camera. We came in late October and while most of the leaves at the upper most elevations had fallen the foothills and valleys below were still full of brilliant reds... More

This was a nice drive with many lookouts. We saw some deer and many beautiful views. There is a information center with a snack bar next to it. Many trails to hike to beautiful vistas.

Driving on this road was an experience in itself.. There are no. of overlooks to see the beauty of the Blue ridge mountains and the valleys.. Stop by, take the the Appalachian trails to reach the top for even better views.

In spite of absolutely bad weather . . . it's worth doing. Try to check the weather forecasts to make sure you have the best possible experience.

The drive is 105 miles so we split it up by starting in Front Royal and stopping in Luray for a two night stay right on the Shenandoah River...darling cabin complete with large indoor fireplace AND large outdoor hot tub! Of course we made many stops along the way and took a ton of pictures even though it was basically... More

We drove the length of Skyline Drive in a southerly direction. We made many stops at the various overlooks along the way. The weather was perfect. You could see for many miles. We hiked to one of the falls in the park. I only wish we could have spent more time hiking in the park.

Magnificent, full-day drive (when the park was empty!). We were there on a bright, fine day in mid-October and the Fall colors were absolutely stunning. A must, though could imagine that it is less pleasant when full of tourists.
