We had two family excursions with Lester. Our family of four with two young boys (6 and 3) went on a two rock climbing 1/2 days with a guided hike. Lester was amazing with our boys, to the extent that I think this trip will be remembered as the Lester trip!

He handled the young boys with great poise, even during their "moments". He helped our oldest son rock climb outdoors, guiding him on multiple climbs. He also helped my wife and I learn proper climbing safety. He shared with us his extensive knowledge of the surrounding areas, great hikes, and so much more.

Lester was amazing, and our climbing adventures with him were the highlights of our trip to Shenandoah.

Great to meet your family. If you are back in the area, let's get "dark and deep" in a cave, or learn some paddle strokes on the river!

3rd climbing trip with Lester, second accompanied by my daughter (who is in college now, and was in elementary school the first time!). Lester is a wonderful guide - positive and encouraging, while still making us feel safe and inspired to challenge ourselves. I've worked with a number of guides in a variety of settings, and continue to be impressed by Lester's positivity and clear knowledge of the physical and mental dynamics of outdoor adventure. I can't recommend Wild Guyde highly enough!

My boyfriend and I went repelling and rock climbing with Lester in October. Lester was very personable and made us feel safe and confident in his abilities from the start. Little things like the “commitments to safety” he had us repeat in the beginning to his in-depth tutorials about knot-tying made us feel really comfortable stepping off the ledge once it came time to repel. The day was tailored to us and Lester was up for staying longer if we wanted to climb more. I would 100% recommend this experience to anyone visiting the Shenandoah area, and have already sent our weekend itinerary to some friends, telling them how great it was.

My daughter's girl scout troop and another troop did a full day rock climbing adventure. It was AMAZING! Lester did an excellent job of teaching both adults and the girls how to properly put on the gear, how to climb, repel and belay. He was encouraging and positive throughout the day. We climbed rock faces and repelled off a 60 foot rock. And those who were anxious about repelling were given every opportunity to get comfortable using different training stations and never felt pressured. I highly recommend WILD GUYde Adventures if you want to learn how to rock climb and repel in a positive, no-pressure, no-stress and encouraging atmosphere.

Thanks for all the time you give to serving young people. I can't think of a better place to help them grow in many ways than the outdoors!

Lester (the owner) is just what you call "good people"! We did the half day canoe trip while we were visiting the Shenandoah National Park. We originally scheduled for Monday afternoon, however, the weather was proving to be nasty so we collectively decided it was best to wait until Tuesday morning. Lester was so communicative and accommodating for something that was completely out of his control.

Tuesday, we followed Lester's perfect directions over the Blue Ridge and met him in an area of the river that was calm and beautiful. He taught us 3 main strokes (Sweep, Rudder, Bow Stroke) and one additional advanced stroke called the J-Stroke. Within 20 minutes we were in the water practicing and doing well! He took us through a beautiful stretch of water about 3 miles long with 3 really cool rapid like areas. The water was perfect, we had so much fun, and we learned so much too! Lester was an amazing and patient teacher and was so friendly. We thoroughly enjoyed getting to know more about him and his story! He likewise had a lot of interest in learning about us and our family. It was like we were talking with an old friend and we had never met him before!

The canoe trip turned out to be the highlight of our trip! We are already looking to book with him again in the next year or so and take our kiddos this time! We think they would like canoeing under Lester's direction just as much as we did! I highly recommended this company. We were so pleased with the value of what we got and the knowledge and fun Lester shared with us!

Also - we asked for a few ideas on local hikes and Lester gave us two great ones. We only had time to do one (Dark Hollow Falls) but we loved it!!!

You guys came all the way from Texas on a "couple's getaway," and I think that is an awesome example for any other married couples out there. Putting intentional time and $ into our marriages is an investment that we will never regret! Glad to share the river with you both.

This was our second trip to the area using Lester as a guide- that's how good he is. I went repelling/rock-climbing with my husband and two teens and everyone had a great time. My daughter is an experienced climber (indoors), but everyone felt challenged and accomplished. We felt safe at all times, but also able to push ourselves- the perfect combination. We all learned a lot too.

We also used Lester for a caving experience which I would highly recommend.

Do not hesitate to contact Lester to be part of your trip to Shenandoah. He is responsive and easy to communicate with as you figure out what would be best for your family.

Thank you Lester!

I really enjoy seeing families getting "off the beaten path," and incorporating adventure and outdoor experiences into vacation trips. Think of what I do as a positive alternative to shopping, screen time, and civilization in general!

Lester is a great guide. My kids and I had not done any rock climbing before (other than a few indoor rock-wall sessions at birthday parties for the kids). Lester was encouraging and supportive. He explained safety measures to my kids very clearly and made them feel secure while trying something new (and very fun!) We felt we were in very good hands and my kids liked challenging themselves. Lester knew when and how to encourage them to go further while ensuring that they still felt comfortable with their circumstances. I highly recommend Lester looking for a fun adventure !

I love to see families treading that line together between fun and challenge. Kids and their parents together is kind of like a natural mutual cheerleading squad! You all were great!

Our wild caving adventure with Lester was the highlight of our Shenandoah vacation. He did a great job balancing education with fun as well as some family team building challenges. I would not hesitate to recommend Lester as an adventure guide and will most certainly use him again for future excursions.

Lester is an amazing guide and educator! He was quick to respond to all my inquiries, made perfect recommendations, and set appropriate expectations to make my family's first wild caving trip a success. He is not only extremely knowledgeable, but has an interactive education style that is engaging for children (6 & 8 year old) and adults. He is able to read moods and personalities and tailor the adventure to best meet everyone's needs. I felt very safe throughout the entire excursion. I was amazed and inspired and cannot wait to join Lester for future adventures! Highly recommend!

Yes, you can probably tell that I am a teacher at heart. I really enjoy seeing children get a positive taste of outdoor adventure and health and fitness. Keep up the great stuff as a family!

Lester was great at communicating before, during, and after. For a group of 10 high adventure scouts and 2 leaders from a beach BSA Troop, he led us on a great cave experience. He mixed in some education with fun and made it a meaningful experience for the boys. He was great with the scout age boys and clearly knew what he was doing and demonstrated confidence doing an activity that made a couple of boys and one leader nervous.
It was a nice activity after having our long hike in WV the day before snowed out. Funniest thing is getting home and having parents see the clear garbage bags of mud, I mean dirty clothes.
As a side note to those going in the fall/spring, we camped and woke to 28 degrees. It was nice and toasty in the cave!

Thank you for all the time you give to serving young people. Yes, that cave is the SLOPPIEST one that I visit, so I am sure that some parents are in for a bit of a shock when that bag of muddy gear arrives at home!
