Fairly easy hike and not as busy
Aug 2020 • Couples
The lake is accessible either from the Park and Ride lot or the small parking lot at the Trailhead. Either way it’s about 1.6miles and a moderate hike. We didn’t encounter too many people which was nice and the lake was very relaxing and a nice place for a picnic.

Beautiful Hike!
Jun 2019
We are not seasoned hikers, but do enjoy the CO outdoors and this hike was great! We took our 2 teenagers who were patient in waiting for me while I caught my breath and took pictures on the way up to the top. It's not a hard climb, but we took our time. The view is beautiful, flowers were in bloom, and the hike didn't kill my legs or knees!

Saw a moose in the lake.
Sep 2019 • Family
There is limited parking here be we were lucky to get a spot. Otherwise, the shuttle stops here. This trail was moderate to difficult. There were a lot of switch backs and a steep climb for 1 mile. The views on the way up were amazing! When we got to the lake there was a female moose dunking her head under the water eating seaweed. We were only about 25 yards from her. It was awesome! She looked right at us and just kept eating. This made the tough trek up well worth it!! We were surprised to see her at noon. We were told the animals wouldn’t likely be out and about at that time.

Nice hike!
Oct 2019 • Couples
This was a great starter hike with 4 flatlanders over age 60 ;-) we didn’t get out to hike until 10am so we found a place to park on the roadside parking and walked the roadside path to the trailhead. We hit the weather perfectly and the aspens up at this higher elevation were turning deep gorgeous yellow. Once you reach the loop around the lake you have to take side trails in to see the lake. It’s not visible from the loop trail. The opposite side provides Mountain View’s and large rocks to stop and eat lunch. Total trip 4 hours with 20 min lunch stop and lots of short breaks on the ascent for pictures. Highly recommend.

Nice Hike; Start at Bear Lake and go to Park & Ride
Sep 2019
We asked a ranger and got the very good insight to start the hike at Bear Lake (take the shuttle, it makes it so much easier). This allows for a net decrease in the hike; some of the areas are rocky and are much more challenging going up (i.e. starting at Park & Ride). We had a nice ~3.8 mile hike with a net decrease in elevation. You can add to that by taking the trail which circumnavigates the lake. Look carefully at the signs when you come to “intersections” of trails; at one point we had to look backwards to see which way to go towards the Park & Ride as opposed to continuing around the lake.

This is a nice lake, but a very arduous trail.
Aug 2019
The lake is gorgeous and it is in a pine forest. The trail up to the lake is stressful in that it is steep, circuitous, and that the vegetation is long. One must be careful of small rocks, and one should wear proper shoes. The views of the snowy mountains were spectacular! One can reach this destination by bus before the difficult hike. I saw a large male elk with antlers about twenty (20) feet away from me!

Perfect morning loop
Aug 2019 • Solo
I was in RMNP with my husband and 3 young children. After walking around Lake Estes and having my kids complain to be carried, we decided to skip hiking together. I researched trails that I could do alone within a couple hours the morning we were leaving and I came upon this 3.2 mile loop (from trailhead, around the loop/lake, and back). In my opinion the pictures do not do it justice. I was longing for other hikes based on photos, but was afraid they would take too long, so stuck with this one—and was so glad I did. The views from the switchbacks were amazing, and when I finally reached the lake, it was particularly calm, and the reflection of the mountains on the water was breathtaking! I completed the hike in 1.5 hours, but slightly jogged some of it on the descent. It was a perfect morning/solo hike. It is a pretty decent incline on the way up, so I would personally rate it as moderate.

Beautiful Hike (Steep Though, Not for Everyone)
Jul 2019 • Friends
I really enjoyed this hike. The views on the first mile up a really steep switchbacked section are just amazing. The mountains and valleys are breathtaking. This is really steep. My sister and I are in decent shape and struggled a bit. I saw an older woman who was really struggling and I'm not sure if she even ended up making it up. Just keep this in mind. The switchbacks are also not shaded at all, so it's a hot steep climb. With that said, just take breaks and admire the view. Once you get through the switchbacks, the short hike to the lake is a breeze and the view of the mountains over the small lake is very, very pretty.
Like others have said, the parking at the trail head is limited. So hope to get lucky or you'll have to get creative with your parking.

Worth the Hike
Jun 2019 • Solo
Uphill switchback trail up to the top and then most flat walk out to the lake. Moderate hike but trail is easy to walk and navigate. The lake is incredible and the reflection view from the water is beautiful. Lots of amazing photos to be taken and came across wildlife like woodpeckers, ducks etc Rocky Mountain has so many lovely hikes and this is one not to miss

June trip (Bear Lake to BL TH)
Jun 2019 • Couples
My husband and I did this hike at the recommendation of the forums. We were there last week (early June), and there was still a LOT of snow on most trails (Emerald Lake, Mills Lake, etc). We took the advice of many and left from Bear Lake TH. Walked up and to the right and started towards Bierstadt Lake. It is uphill for a short time then downhill and around to the lake. BEAUTIFUL views. We then walked back down the switchbacks to the actual Bierstadt Lake TH). Man, glad we did because if you did it opposite....those switchbacks would be TOUGH on the legs. Do it this way instead!
