Every national park says you can't see it from your car, but for most them that's only half true. You can get great views (and crowds) of Yosemite, Zion, Arches, Glacier, Grand Canyon, etc. without leaving your car. But that's not at all the case for North Cascades. A fantastic hike that has a lot of variety - woods, switchbacking up an alpine meadow and then heading up the ridge. Nearing the hut, the "North Cascades National Park" wooden sign, with the lake below and the mountains beyond is an unbeatable stop for a photo. This 9 mile hike was recommended to us by one of the rangers. It is so beautiful and varied - first through forest, then through meadows for a long way, then on boulders.
