I drove 2 hours to take my children to Mammoth Cave. We arrived at 11 am and all the tours were sold out for the day. The only one still available was this one. Since we drove here we decided to go. The tour is self guided and you get to go down in the cave. But it is a... More

You got to walk through the majestic caves for only $5.00 per person and got to go on your own time. Had several people who have Information about the caves and their origins and the people in the caves. Fun, and cool in the caves! It's like a natural air conditioner! Go here!

In a previous visit I had done the Historic tour and wanted to repeat but even though I had arrived at the visitor center at 10am, all of the tours were booked. I had no choice but to do the self guided, Discovery tour. It was nice and really short. Not as wonderful was the Historic tour but if you... More

At 2pm the only tour available was a "Self Directed Discovery Tour". The entry fee was $5 each. If I'd thought to use my Golden Age Pass or ask for a Senior Discount, the fee would have been $2.50. A five minute walk down to the entrance. A one minute briefing of formation of the cave and to not touch... More

We originally had planned on taking the historic tour but we didn't realize that we needed to have a reservation and it was sold out for the day. We choose this self guided tour as an alternate. You begin by walking down a huge steep incline then have to walk down about 150 steps into the cave. The cave itself... More

A waterfall when you get down to the bottom. Then We had a great time walking around the caverns. The guides gave us great information. The formations are amazing to look at. A must see if you're in the area.

We did this tour because all of the others were sold out. You enter and exit the cave through the same entrance as the historic tour past the old mines, making a right on the trail next to the artifacts. Our tour was self-led, with a guide at several locations speaking on various topics of interest. We were able to... More

I've been to Mammoth Cave, Carlsbad Caverns, Ruby Falls cave, and a half dozen smaller, privately owned caves. This one was by far the most boring cave tour I've ever had. Our guide would let us take 30 to 50 steps, then he would stop the group and talk for literally 10 minutes at every stop. His talk was not... More

This was a great tour for groups with younger kids. You have to climb down a number of stairs initially. However, that is the only strenuous part of the tour. The cave was dark and chilly (about 60 degrees) but it was not too scary for the kids. There are not any tight squeezes in this tour. Instead, everything is... More
