The 49 Palms Oasis Trail is just the perfect hike. It is 3 miles roundtrip, with about 350 feet of gain/loss in each direction. A little bit challenging, without wearing you out. Then, you are rewarded with a beautiful lush oasis of palm trees and the end of the trail.

If you are staying in Joushua City you must drive to the other side of the park to reach this oasis. The drive to reach this place is very scenic. It would have been nice if they had a few benches to sit on here and there. If you had small children it would be fun to show them an... More

Great introductory hike in the park. It's a relatively easy hike that takes about 90 mins. There are a bunch of large rocks near the palm trees to climb over, if you want to explore a little more. It's a pretty walk and the oasis is surprising.

Well worth the hike. You can see the tall Palm Trees in the distance if you look for them. Go early to get some private time at the Oasis because it is not big and it gets crowded.

I like trails that are rewarding. I'd call this a short, compact trail with medium strenuous moments - there's a pretty decent incline or two that lasts 5-10 minutes depending on how in shape you are (do u even lift, bro?), but the entire trail is maybe 3 miles in the total loop. But I digress.... once you get to... More

This was a nice, relatively quick trail. The placard states should budget 2-3 hours; realistically can do this in 1.5 hr. Takes about 35 min (~1.5 mi) to end of trail going at moderate pace. Approximately 300 ft elevation change each way, but was quite gradual. National Park Service labels as "moderately strenuous" but I suspect most experienced hikes would... More

I was there on a holiday weekend. It was the less crowded area of the park. The hike was a little strenuous but we are all in shape. We saw some people struggling to climb the hills. The oasis is beautiful as you come over there hill and around the bend. It was my favorite hike in JTNP.

Looking for a short, for some a challenging hike, with an awesome reward? This is it! There are some serious warnings at the trailhead, pay attention! Bring water and drink it! Though we were here in December, I broke a sweat and drank 32 oz during the in and out hike. The trail is easy to follow, but it does... More

We took a mid-afternoon hike here in October - it was hot and the sun was intense, but hey - its a desert this is not unexpected! We took the loop around the old gold mine. The view from just before the gold mine is great, you can really survey your progress. I recommend taking the steep uphill heading north... More
