4x4 is recommended, but not required. Any truck or SUV should be able to make the drive, with a little smart driving. Some sedans could make the drive. Very neat to see the various terrain and landscapes. Fun drive, very neat to see! Highly recommend, I would certainly return to this site my next visit to Joshua Tree.

One of my favorite drives in the park! I have a Jeep Wrangler, and like other reviewers have said, I would not take a 2WD vehicle on the full drive. You can get as far as about Squaw Tank before things get dicy. It's an easy drive in a Jeep, and honestly, I've driven GTR many times, all different times... More

I drove through Geology Tour Road to Berdoo Canyon Road to park exit yesterday. Berdoo Canyon Road was like mini version of Titus Canyon in Death Valley, except it's not a one-way. It was very pleasant ride as I didn't encounter any other vehicles even though it was Columbus day weekend. Our family even took one hour lunch break along... More

My husband wanted to have some off-road fun as he recently purchased a Jeep Wrangler. I found the Geology Trail and Berdoo Canyon Road. It looks like a short cut to Palm Spring area. Another family traveling with us, they have a Honda Pilot. With the sign of "Drive at your own risk" and "4X4 only" read, we were expecting... More

Interesting trail, but only the first half is accessible without a 4-wheel drive vehicle..... and even if you are equipped and able to attempt the 2nd half, you'd have to be comfortable with risking some damage to the car.

The guideed trail (don't forget to get the pamphlet) is interesting in giving you some of the park's geological history. We didn;t make it past marker 9 as our vehicle wasn't suitable. Just be aware that 4WD is highly recommended past marker 6 when the road descends. I could barely make it back up in a Jeep (2WD only, would... More

Although I wouldn't take my wife's sedan on the Geology Road, it could probably make it.... at least to the 9 marker. Pick up a map at the beginning so you know what you're looking at. This was a neat drive as the geology along the way is so interesting. There are a few rough spots after the 9 marker.... More

This is about 2 hours long and forms a loop so you end up back where you started. It is relatively untraveled so you can get away from the crowds at the other attractions. There are identified points of interest so you are recommended to get a copy of the trail map from the visitor centre. It is recommended to... More

We missed the geology tour part - I guess we weren't looking hard enough for the 16 markers - but the fun on Berdoo Canyon more than made up for it. As another reviewer wrote, there were a few areas we had to get out and look at the terrain/rocks to figure out the best approach. If you're wanting a... More

We took Geology road to Berdoo canyon road down to Dillon Rd. This was a great road to take. Geology road says 4x4 needed but it is really quite tame. We decided to continue on down Berdoo Canyon. This road starts out easy, but as you continue down the canyon it get more exciting. The last 5 miles of the... More
