As one of the most active volcanos in the United States, this can be a real learning experience. The indoor museum exhibit is very interesting and informative. A tour of the road around the crater is interesting, but there is not of "action" to be...More

Great day!but remember to dress warm! And bring a rain coat for the ever changing weather. The thirsting lava tube was amazing. Parking is an issue so please be patient

Volcano national park is truly alive! Where else can you get within site of an active volcano? It's well organized, and fairly easy to get around. Save some time to explore some of the older craters, Thurston Lava Tube and the views of the ocean!

It doesn't get old. Nature and geologic creation keep it new and exciting. Lava flows, steam vents, lava tubes, rain forest, scenic views of mountain and ocean. The earth in flux. New 'land' being created right before your eyes. Be prepared to hike a bit...More

THIS is the reason you are on the Big Island, so drive over and see active volcanos, steam vents, lava fields, lava craters, and more. Great hikes. The Shaka Guide pointed out all kinds of things we would not have known about or stopped for...More

We took a commercial tour of this incredible park. Having never before seen a live volcano, it was quite a sight. Walking through the lava tube, seeing the empty caldera, and seeing the glow from the live portion of a volcano. Really exciting.

Well-maintained national park in Hawaii. Good headquarters with informative and attractive displays. The park features very good network of roads and trails. It reminded me of the Grand Canyon National Park in Arizona, with its vista trails of the Kilhuana Crater. Can take a park...More

If you plan to visit Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, pack a parka. The wind blows almost continuously, and there is usually a misty cloud cover, too. That said, this is a must-see spot on the Big Island. The park service has made it worth the...More

We visited thurston lava tube then left the park and went to a town outside park. You can rent bikes and ride to the actively flowing lava rather than walk to it.

You are going to have a great time in May. Perfect weather. (Bring a light jacket though as you will likely be lodging above 4000 feet) I have one recommendation since you have a person with moderate-severe asthma - Go to... More

As far as the green sand beach, we had to 4 wheel drive to a trail that took you down to the beach. As far as the boat to see the lava. We were warned of a rough, somewhat long trip to the viewing area and it would be... More

We actually had a ride most of the way via Kalapaana Cultural Tours because I was recovering from an injury and couldn't ride a bike. However, there are a lot of bike rental places in the area where you have to park (no non... More
