Climbing through 5 geography changes to this spectacular view is awe inspiring, You actually experience climate changes. The ride up is on winding roads through ever changing scenery. Have a Jacket at 10,023 feet it is cold and windy but the views are second to...More

Drove up to the crater with my son in the early afternoon to avoid all of the sunrising crowd. Not congested when going then, you avoid not only the parking issues, but the traffic issues as well. Landscape looks like it's on the moon. Even...More

Spectacular and unique view of inside volcano and island from the top at little over 10,000 feet. Relatively easy drive to the summit. Good road and parking. Good viewing facilities and restrooms at the top. No sales of food and drinks in the park, so...More

We took a sunrise trip and then biked down the volcano. It was a terrific morning and view. It's impressive to see the color change come on and then the clouds appear and seem to be a blanket you could walk across. It's very cold...More

If you want sunrise, get up very early (in the dark) and join the line of cars. We went late morning, with few other visitors, and the views along the way were simply spectacular. We ended up above the clouds in bright sunshine, with a...More

Went on a Roberts tour to see the sunrise over the crater. I don't like to use the word - but WOW! A truly spectacular sight. There is far more to see from the crater rim than just the sun coming up! The pre-dawn night...More

This is a great trip to make, but just this week it was announced that due to overcrowding at the Haleakala Crater to watch the sunrise, the national park is now requiring reservations. They are limiting the number of vehicles during the 3:00 am -...More

Absolutely. It's an awesome view...better yet, the crater won't be in shade and you'll be able to enjoy the vastness of Haleakala.

It depends on what time of day. If you are in the going up for sunrise herd, it can take awhile depending on how many RVs you are behind. If not, then it won't even take 20 minutes from entrance to top parking lot.
