On a tour and it took us to this amazing crater. Last year I had the most perfect views of this place as we were nestled in the clouds. This year unfortunately it was too cloudy to see much of its beauty. There is nothing you can do about the weather so you just have to chance it and hope... More

This was a bit disappointing. The road was long and had lots of curves. Once we got there it was windy and cold with not much to see. If it is cloudy you cannot see the valley... you actually cannot see much of anything. The landscape is moon like and interesting but we will never go back up.

It's the #1 attraction for a reason .. a MUST do while in Maui. Beware of the long and winding drive. Quite some cars break down due to break overheating on the way down, and expect delays on the way up. Plan enough time. Also, parking might fill up at the summit well before the sunrise .. The parking then... More

We didn't go for the sunrise but never less the trip was fantastic . Be sure to go to Hosmer grove and take the small hike a among eucalyptus trees and view fantastic birds.

We traveled to Haleakala on an excursion with Gray Line Polynesian Adventures. Our driver was great, and full of information. We were very happy he was experienced on these roads, and glad we didn't have to drive the dark winding road home ourselves. There is a restroom stop when you arrive at the visitor's center, and some flowering plants and... More

Longest/highest road climb in the world. Hire a bike from one of the great bike shops on the island (West Maui Cycles are fab) and then spend 4-6 hours riding the hill. View at the top is great (when it is not covered in cold), but is a bit chilly. the ride back down the mountain - awesome.

We went at sunrise and it was breathtaking. Two important points: 1. the cost to get in is now $20.00 credit card only. 2. The summit is at least 30 minutes past the point where you pay. The gps took me to that point and so I thought I was going to make the summit by sunrise based on the... More

One of the great highlights of our Hawaii trip. The views are amazing, you can hike if you want to or do everything with your car.

This time, I went there too late in the trip--they recommend that you get there before 4:30 am, as there is about a half hour wait once you hit the guard house. I ended up getting there at around noon, because I didn't wake up til 4, and it is at least an hour and a half up to there.... More

Where else can you drive from sea level to 10,000 feet?! The drive went through a lot of micro climates. Misty rain at check in point, sunny a little ways up. I read a review that this was a scary drive with steep cliff drop offs. Not so! It's a shield volcano. It's not Mt St Helens
