We only spent a couple of minutes here due to our busy traveling schedule but it was long enough to notice the beauty of everything. It was a gorgeous picnic area with decent tables and a lovely creek/river right next to it. There were plenty of rocks to build a dam and just deep enough to go tubing and waist-deep... More

We went here for a picnic and to cool off in the river. The picnic tables are in good shape, and the bathroom are clean and in working order. Beautiful scenery, like everywhere in this area. What makes this place so nice is you can wade out in the river and cool off, or find one of the areas where... More

We were just driving through the park stopping at various places. This was one that had picnic tables, bathrooms, and the creek to play in. Take the drive to the old school house. The gravel road gets tight in places where only one car can pass so be prepared to back up if needed. There was much traffic and the... More

This is one of the many times we've stopped to grill out at Metcalf Bottoms. Great selection of picnic areas in the shade and near the river. We go very early to beat the crowds and have been here in summer and winter. Always a fun place to relax and unwind!!!

Metcalf Bottoms Picnic Area is a large picnic area, situated along Little Rivers Road in the GSMNP. There are numerous picnic tables and ample parking. A big plus during the hit summer weather is the fact that the river runs alongside this area, allowing many locations for wading and cooling off. A great spot to take a break during a... More

What a wonderful picnic area. It was clean and the spaces were great. We chose one right along the water, grilled out. My boys played in the water and found several bugs and crawl dads. We had a wonderful time.

This is a very nice and clean picnic area along a stretch of the Little River Road. There are plenty of picnic tables and nice clean restrooms. You can take a nice walk along the river or if you are up for a little longer hike there are trails to the Greenbrier School and the Walker Sisters Home. About 3.2... More

Metcalf Bottoms is a great place to stop, have a picnic, take a short walk and if needed use the restrooms. There is fishing in the river too, if you want. There is normally plenty of room most of the time. If you cross the bridge you can drive to Wears Valley. There are opportunities to take some pictures too.
