This is a lovely lake, and beautiful place to sit and relax. The peace and quiet was wonderful, and welcome after quite busy areas around Jenny Lake. Some people were swimming or paddle boarding in the lake on a hot day, but were all respectful of the peace.
Potentially the favourite hour of my day sitting here with my feet in the water and taking in the surroundings.

I hiked this trail with my husband and out 1.5 yo son. We parked and walked to the trailhead, then after about 5 min of walking clockwise, we turned around to do the eastern side of the lake so that we could shorten the hike (avoid doing the whole loop) and still get the views of the mountains. This ended up being perfect - the trail is easy with really beautiful views of the lake and mountains essentially the entire way. AllTrails rates it as moderate but I have to assume that is due to the part of the trail we didn’t do, otherwise I’d rate this just as easy as Jenny Lake. Once we got to where the trail meets with Leigh Lake we hiked up to the Leigh lake portage and paused there to give our toddler a break from the carrier and eat a snack. We did walk up a portion of the Leigh lake trail and it was pretty but views were pretty obstructed by trees in the first section of the trail at least so we turned around and retraced our steps along String Lake. Definitely recommend this trail!

I feel like String Lake is one of the better kept secrets of Grand Teton, and it's possibly because it's parking and access is limited, so make sure to arrive early.
The lake is 10ft deep at it's deepest point, so it is absolutely perfect for swimming in crystal clear water that you can see all the way to the bottom.
Do be aware of wildlife in the area, we say a moose, a bear and a snake while here. There are lots of people so no real need to be worried about potential danger, but just be aware and make sure your kids are too.
The beach access here is very limited, so like I said arrive early and claim your spot. Also, make sure to bring a kayak or paddle-board to fully enjoy String. It's a magical lake and one that we could've spent longer at if we had the time. I highly recommend it.

String lake is more like a small ocean. The cool lake refreshed my body to its fullest point. I could not imagine a better water a warm 75 degrees with a beaming sunshine was perfect for a dip into the glacier lake that is the String. Be sure to jump off the big rock nicknamed kidney stone as the impact on the water will knock them out. It’s only a 30 m drop… A paddle board is needed for a good time. Be sure to watch out for the tourists they seem to think they know what they are doing. As a local I know all so go to the String. And perhaps bring a cat with as they seem to enjoy the friendly bears and moose. Good time 3/5 stars for the loss of a kidney.

This lake is so beautiful. The water changes color by the hour. Wildflowers, well-maintained trails, perfect kayaking for beginners and children, good parking lots, interpretive rangers a few parking areas or add to the ease of enjoying String Lake and String Lake Trail. You can access Paintbrush Canyon Trail and the trail to Leigh lake And bear claw Lake and Trapper Lake fRom Strong Lake Trail. The trail is flat. It is good for kids, the lame and infirm, and everyone else. One star subtracted because of the tremendous crowds that this lake trail attracts.

The pro here is that String Lake is much less crowded than Jenny Lake, but the con is that it's also a little less scenic. There are some trails in the area for hiking, and you can access Leigh Lake nearby from those trails. We were already a little hiked-out by this point, so we just walked around the picnic area instead.

This is a beautiful lake next to Jenny Lake that many people frolic in. There's also a trail that loops around the lake which is one of the easier walks you can take a family on. There are multiple parking lots serving this lake and Jenny lake which tend to fill up quickly during the day, so go early or late to be able to get a parking space.

We did the string lake trail. It’s about a 4 mile loop. You get amazing views of the lake and then it takes you up to the mountain where you may see a bit of wild life if you’re lucky. The trail is easy. There’s not a lot of incline. There was a lot of snow on the mountain still.

We found the parking challenging at String Lake, we had to drive round and round and pretty much follow someone as they were leaving. But the challenge was worth the wait. We took the hike around the lake and it was beautiful. There was lots of people enjoying the water of the lake swimming, relaxing on floats and the picnic area was quite nice and a great way to finish off a hike.
Take the time to hike the lake you too will enjoy this hike. FYI it does link up to Jenny Lake Hidden falls trail if you missed that hike, it is beautiful as well. Enjoy and put on your hiking boots.

We incorporated String Lake into our hike around Jenny Lake - it was quite a day. The water is clear and beautiful, just like a mountain lake should be. The level of the lake appeared to be down, but a good snow melt should elevate it in the Spring.
