We had just arrived in town and asked about excursion opportunities. The first three companies we were referred to by our hotel concierge were already sold out. On the fourth call, we talked to Sam at Solitude and were scheduled for our best time (1:30pm) the next day! Professional all the way - great, newer equipment and our guide, Jay, was fantastic! He was very knowledgeable, very friendly and engaging and I felt comfortable that we were in great hands! Our trip was awesome! We even saw Moose and several bald eagles. Jay pointed out the nests and many other great things along our 10 mile route. What a great !experience! Jay even paused at the most scenic locations and took photos for us! I wholeheartedly recommend you call Solitude first - they always have room for you and their price beat the others!

I wanted my wife to experience the beauty of the Grand Teton National Park and this float trip did not disappoint!! Solitude Float Trips is a well organized, first-class professional organization. Their on-site staff were courteous and organized and their float rafts are clean, comfortable, and appeared to be almost new. Our float guide, Sam, was an amazing tour guide, pointing out numerous points of interest as well as eagles perched high in treetops observing us as we floated by. Sam positioned the boat perfectly at many "photo-ops" for the groups in both the front and back of the raft to get great views of the magnificent vistas that are the Tetons. For a peaceful float trip on the Snake River through Grand Teton National Park, I HIGHLY recommend this outfit.
As a side note, this outfit followed all applicable COVID guidelines and we felt comfortable and safe with them during our entire journey.

Hello BryanI567!
Wow! First-class and professional, we try hard to make that impression and it's always great to hear. Cleanliness is of utmost importance to us as well -- especially now. Thank you for the kudos to Sam. All of our guides are great, and I'm so happy that you were pleased with the time you spent with us, our operation, and pleased the wife! Please join us again.
Thanks so much,
Lori

We did a float trip Wednesday 07/15/2020 at 5:30 pm. I highly recommend Solitude! They have great prices and I appreciate that Sam followed up with us to confirm our date and time for our float trip. We also loved Bernie as our guide! He was a fantastic guide as he told great stories that were relevant to what we were seeing along Snake River as well as funny! The raft was comfortable and we felt totally safe in the raft with Bernie at the helm. We loved the evening trip as we had nearly perfect weather and saw 8 bald eagles, 1 bear running up the side of the mountain, 2 beavers and a moose! Not that Solitude controls the animals, but Bernie knew right where to look and pretty much timed when and where we would see which animals!!
If you are near the Grand Tetons, you need to float down Snake River with Solitude!!

This is a roughly 2 hour (depending on time of year and water level) gentle float on the Snake River within Grand Teton National Park. It was one of the best parts of our trip! Pros: guide is extremely knowledgeable and can share plenty of biological, environmental, and practical information about the area. They were punctual and didn't waste any time getting us through the safety protocol and onto the float. The scenery is of course, spectacular. Be aware that there are other scenic floats offered, but if you research their float maps, this is the company that floats the farthest north on the river, which means you are actually in the national park. Other companies offer floats from Jackson which also have views of the Grand Teton mountains, but are not in that protected area. We saw bald eagles and other birds on our trip, but if your'e lucky you might get to see a moose or a bear. It was extremely safe and the guide was able to turn the float multiple times on the river, making sure everyone had access to great pics and wildlife sightings. Dress in layers- the weather can change quickly but also the sun is strong at that altitude, so even with sunscreen loose light long sleeves are a plus. The seats are a little hard, but by shifting around regularly you can alleviate the discomfort. Overall it was amazing and I would highly recommend it!!!

Super great activity to do while in the Tetons. Justin was our guide and he was so knowledgeable and humorous. I really enjoyed floating down the river with my partner and we both felt safe during the entire trip. It was wonderful to hear him talk about the native tribe in the area, on top of a brief conversation about the lack of diversity in the area when it came to people and food. 10/10 recommend. Our group spotted two moose and a calf, bald eagles, and beavers. I recommend booking in the evening time (especially when it’s a bit cooler and cloudy out) to see wildlife and not be too hot on the ride. Additionally, COVID conscious - you have to wear a face mask in the van when being shuttled to the launch point and the distancing of people was good while on the raft. Pick up point was easy to find and they were on time. Definitely recommending this activity for everyone if you want to get a different perspective of the Tetons.

Last month, during our visit to Jackson and Grand Teton, we chose Solitude Float trips to guide us down the Snake River. None of us expected to have such a great time. Justin did an awesome job as a guide and kept us interested the whole time with all the information and stories he had about the river, area, and animals. We were amazed by all the wildlife we saw and each of us had lots of fun the whole way! Here's a few shots from our float!

For my birthday we went on a float trip with Justin and it was incredible!! We saw all kinds of wildlife and the float was relaxing, thrilling and enjoyable. Justin is great at rafting and hosting.. we felt both safe and confident in his ability to bring us back to safety and he also was incredible when it came to pointing out the wildlife and historical facts on the river. I did some good research on all the float trip companies in the area and this one had the best vibe around! I 100% recommend floating with Solitude Float Trips. Enjoy!! :D

First & foremost, Solitude Float Trips is an organized, professional operation. Even on an easy float like this one, you’re still on a river where things can be unpredictable and having a knowledgeable, competent guide is essential. Solitude checked all of those boxes.
We needed to switch our reservation to a different day and also had questions about where we could park our RV necessitating a couple of calls to Solitude. Each time, a staff member promptly answered and politely took care of all our needs. (If you have an RV, there are a couple of spots in the pickup point parking lot in Moose and more at the Craig Thomas Visitor Center across the street, where we ended up parking.)
As for the float itself, the pics say it all. Our guide, Justin, was terrific. A long-time area resident, he is extremely knowledgeable and just a pleasure to spend time with.
We had a blast and highly recommend Solitude Float Trips.

This was a highlight of our all-American "out West" road trip for 2020. We chose the evening 5:30pm float option and the evening time was perfect to see the sunset behind the Grand Tetons. Our family of four (children ages 10 and 6) enjoyed our ride on the Snake River with Colby as our guide. He was very knowledgeable about the wildlife, scenery, and any other questions that we asked. Colby told great stories and was very entertaining during our two hours on the river. We saw several bald eagles, beavers, elk, and even a badger. Highly recommended. We had great weather too! A hat, sunglasses, binoculars, and a water bottle were the only things we took. A helpful hint was that you can even wear flip flops since you remain in the raft the entire time and it is a gentle float. Thanks for a memorable experience Solitude Scenic Float Trips!!!

My husband & I booked a trip with Solitude Float Trips for July 13th at 9:30 am. We met with out group near the GTNP visitor center and the area to meet at was clearly marked. I was a little nervous that I would get soaking wet or have a difficult time getting on/off the raft, but I had no issues with either. I'm not as agile as I used to be and have some knee and ankle issues, so that is always a concern for me. The staff was prepared to help transitioning from land to float and back and I had no trouble. Andy was our guide and he was outstanding. He was quite skilled at steering the raft, very knowledgeable of the history of the area, the wildlife, the mountains and more. His interesting tour was one of the highlights of our trip to GTNP. Our trip started on a beautiful morning, but about half way through, it became cloudy and eventually rained. Andy had blankets for when the temperature dropped and ponchos available when the rain started. I can highly recommend Solitude Float Trips for an outstanding trip down the Snake River with incredible views and a peaceful way to see the mountains. And if Andy is your guide, consider yourself lucky!

We are taking extensive measures to do what we can to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 including sanitizing and disinfecting all surfaces after each trip. We are requiring masks be worn for the shuttle in addition to many other actions we are taking. This year we are also offering a fantastic deal on private rafts in order to encourage folks to enjoy a secluded experience on the Snake River. Please call our office for more detailed information.

What time of day do you recommend for a float trip around 9/18 given the cooler weather? Would like to see some wildlife so wondering how early in the morning we need to go.

Thank you for your interest in Solitude Float Trips. The time of day is not a factor when viewing wildlife. Wildlife is a hit or miss any time of day. People are actually a greater deterrent to viewing wildlife. The National Park regulates the number of commercial trips permitted to float this section of the Snake River in efforts to preserve the wild and scenic corridor increasing the abundance of wildlife in the area. Wildlife is most definitely there -- spotting them can be a challenge. In September visitation seems to dwindle and it's always a great time to be on the river. As far as the temps, it can be cold here anytime so just plan to dress in layers, bring a small back pack and take off or put on layers as needed. See you soon!

Was wondering if my two year old son would be able to take this trip and if so, do I need to bring his own life jacket? Thank you!!
Written February 26, 2018
Per their website:
Children: In order to participate in the scenic float, your child must be at least five years old and weigh at least 50 pounds. This will ensure that she is properly fitted for a personal flotation device (PFD or life jacket). Additionally, consider your child’s attention span as the trip is about two hours in duration (2.5 counting shuttle) with no stops (or restroom breaks) on the river.
My two trips I have taken were both with all adults (and an older teenager). These trips are slow, peaceful, and relaxing. Many people go on these trips to try to spot wildlife, so people tend to be very quiet. With all that said I don't think I would recommend this particular river trip for young children. I think it would be boring for them, and depending on the child, possibly ruin the serenity for others.

How long is the float trip in total? We have a 1:30 reservation. At what time will we be finished? Thank you. Linda

Hi Yavapai,
The trip lasts around 2-2.5 hours door-to-door. The exact time largely depends on the time of year and how fast the river is running.
Best,

Hello Carol,
August is a busy time for Jackson Hole and Grand Teton National Park. We suggest after hotel accommodations are made, visitors start to reserve the activities they are interested in. The rafts tours will likely sell out in advance, I would suggest making a reservation and then if plans change simply let us know 24 hours prior to your scheduled departure time and you will be fully refunded. I hope this information helps and thank you for considering Solitude Float Trips.
Best,
Colby

Hello,
Thank you for your interest in Solitude Float Trips. Due to our meeting location in Grand Teton National Park as well as the sheer number of hotels in Jackson Hole, we meet our guests at the designated float trip parking area in Grand Teton National Park. From that location we then provide transportation to the launch site 10 miles further north. The float trip parking area is approximately 13 miles from the 49er Inn and takes about 20 minutes.
