I booked this trip based on TA reviews and was not disappointed.
First of all - customer service was amazing. We had booked a private float for today and when we realized the weather was calling for rain and cold all day we called to see if we could move it to another day. No problem! They moved the reservation with no complaint and even refunded the difference as we were needing to change to a group float.
Unfortunately an issue came up with a guide and we were once again faced with having to change the trip. We asked to move back to today with the understanding that we could back out if the weather didn’t cooperate.
We headed to meet spot and even though it was still raining lightly we hoped for the best. Thankfully the weather cleared just in time and we had a fabulous trip for two hours with Travis. He had a lot of great info to share and was a wonderful guide.
Our kids really enjoyed the trip and we saw a bald eagle and a male and female moose.
It was such a nice relaxing trip and we are so thrilled we were able to make it today.
Highly recommend this company based on customer service alone. You won’t be disappointed.

Dear LuxuryTravelMama,
Wow! I'm so pleased that everything worked out for you and that the weather cooperated, as well. Often it is very difficult to predict whether or not it may rain; we do carry raingear for everyone, just in case . But it's always nice to have the sun show itself, (as well as two moose)! We appreciate your very nice review and recommendation.

This was an amazing experience! Our guide Hank struck the right balance between sharing history/factoids, pointing out wildlife, and letting us relax and soak in the beauty of the Grand Tetons. We appreciated their flexibility as we were originally set to do a sunset trip, but could reschedule to the next morning as thunderstorms were going to impede our initial plans. We even saw multiple bald eagles.
If you happen to be cold, they also have blankets in the raft for you to bundle up in.
COVID precautions: every group was in an individual van.
I would definitely recommend floating with Barker Ewing!

Hello, dianagX8120QM,
I'm glad that we were able to reschedule your float trip for you; mountain weather is sometimes uncooperative! And of course we're very pleased that you enjoyed your ride down the river with Hank the next morning. Thank you very much for your nice review; we appreciate your recommendation!

We had a blast on the BE Float trip we took!
There were 2 families and 8 people total and we really enjoyed the float, views, wildlife and knowledge from our guide (we had a noon trip and it ended up just the 8 of our group on the boat).
We had Travis, who was really amazing and fun and we all enjoyed his sense of humor. We had a million questions and he had all of the answers. We spent over a week in the West but this day was definitely a top highlight for everyone that went - adults and teen boys included!

It was a slow boat… Raft ride down the snake river. The guide was very knowledgeable. This was a good thing because we didn’t see any animals at all except two eagles in one tree which may or may not been a prop.. ha ha. I’m sure some folks see all kind of animals that we saw nothing and it was a long long long two hours. We learned a lot… It was like a museum on the water. Plus it kind of irked me that we got no kind of snacks or treats or food and we even had to bring our own water…for 160 bucks. It was definitely not cheap.. If you took kids on this trip I think they would’ve gone crazy nothing to do for two hours and lazily floating along.

Had an incredible time with Michael as our guide on the 5:00 float. I can't imagine this trip being any better with anyone else. He was so knowledgeable with a great sense of humor. He kept our 10 year old grandson engaged and listening the entire trip. He asked us what we hoped to see. We told him eagles and a moose. He said he could guaranty eagles, a moose is always a possibility, but no guarantees there.
We saw the first eagle before we got in the raft flying overhead lol. We got to see an eagle osprey battle while he explained many facts about both osprey's and eagles. I believe we saw 5 eagles possibly 6. Outstanding majestic birds that i always thrill me.
We counted 16 beavers along the trip, learned about beavers, the changing of the river, the Teton themselves and witnessed a beautiful sunset in spite of all the smoke.
Then Michael got extremely excited while he pointed out the moose to the group. She was in a bad part of the river to be crossing, and he pointed out she was just an adolescent. We got to witness her swimming across and thankfully she made it safely. What an incredible experience for our grandson. My husband and I have seen many moose in the lakes in Glacier feeding, but we had never witnessed one swimming across a river. So thrilling for all of us. Michael had to maneuver around her while his skills showed through.
At the end of the trip, he asked our Grandson if he could come help him out for a minute and gave him a lesson on paddling the raft and let him have the oars for a minute, talk about the thrill of a lifetime for him. He was very comfortable with kids.
This trip was amazing! My favorite place is on the water especially at sunset in a beautiful place with an interesting and personable guide that made you feel like you were with an old friend.
I can't recommend this company and this trip enough. Just book it. You won't be sorry.

We took the mild scenic float trip down Snake River. Our guide was James & he was very knowledgeable. These guides have to be strong in order to paddle & navigate the obstacles in the river. The scenery was stunning. The float was so peaceful & beautiful. This was one of the best experiences we have ever had. We saw a moose & baby on the shoreline, & then my husband also spotted a moose in the water eating grasses. I would do this again in an instant. I WILL do this again. We are too scared for whitewater, & this was perfect. They give you life vests & help you into the raft. I recommend bringing a small bag for your items like cameras, binoculars, etc. My husband & I put these items around our necks & felt strangled with the addition of the life vests, so just put them in a bag. Barker Ewing's guides all have many years of experience. You will not regret this wonderful experience.

The float trip was the perfect way to end our 12 day YNP and GTNP vacation. After hiking and walking it was relaxing to just sit and look at the mountains and river from the river. It was not the slow, scenic, flat water float trip that I expected, it was much more exciting. Our boatman/guide, Travis, expertly navigated many small rapids, many downed trees and riverbed changes while giving us lots of information and providing entertaining chatter. We saw a bald eagle and water birds (noon trip, animals resting). The raft is big and you don't get wet at all. Due to COVID restrictions we had less (7) than they usually put in the raft (12) so plenty of room. Our group was 2 couples in their mid 60s. Highly recommend.

Dear dokmok,
Relaxing in a raft traveling down a beautiful "Wild and Scenic" river is a great way to end a vacation, especially one in which you've been doing lots of hiking! It sounds as if you deserved a chance to let our boatman, Travis, do all the work. Thank you so much for your very nice review.

We had a fantastic float trip down the snake river with our guide Michael Inman. He's such a knowledgeable and informative guide who has been down this river more than 4000 times! Enjoyed all the information he shared with us along the way, the stories he told us and all the answers he had to our curious questions. There were 2 of us on one side of the boat, the guide in the middle and another family of 3 on the other side of the boat, so totally socially distant. We had to wear a mask on the short van ride to the launch site and while getting on the raft, then we were free to take it off. They even provided us with hand sanitizer so everyones hands were sanitized before getting in their shuttle van. The float trip parking is easy to find following their directions. We spotted 4 eagles and a few pronghorn on our trip that started at 2pm.
I would highly recommend this excursion and trip while you are visiting the area. Definitely go with Barker-Ewing!

Hi, dshendri,
You've provided a very accurate description of the efforts we've been making to keep everyone safe from the Covid19 virus..(.so far, so good!) And yes, Michael is very, very knowledgeable, and after all these years of guiding, he still loves floating this special stretch of the Snake River. In fact, I think everyone on our crew feels the same way. Thanks for your wonderful review!

Our float trip in July 2021 was more than excellent. Our guide Chris was also a 10+. The trip was planned and supported perfectly and all aspects of the trip were on time as advised. Our guide shared excellent inside into the river and was well experienced on the dynamic changes that can occur on the Snake River. We took the 8:00 trip on July 25 2021 and saw many animals including 2 moose. Of all the float trips I have ever taken this was by far the best.

What trip has best chance of seeing wildlife in mid to late August?
Written August 16, 2023
Good morning! Even though the river is the most green part of the valley, the wildlife is difficult to see with any reliability due to the thick foliage along the banks. That being said, I have had good luck finding animals such as beavers during the evening departures at 4:00 and 6:00. Larger animals like Moose are not abundant in Jackson, but could be seen at any time of day if you are in the right spot at the right time. If you don't find one on the river, our guides could tell you places to look where you might find them in other parts of the valley. Have a great vacation!

Where does the float trip start and end?
Written April 27, 2021
We meet our scenic float trip passengers in Moose, just across from the Grand Teton National Park Visitor's Center. From there, our Barker-Ewing vans take them 10 miles North to the launch site at Deadman's Bar, and from there, we float back to the meeting place through the National Park. You'll end your trip about 100 yards from your car!

Hi, what is the age limit for a child to be able to join the tour? we have a 6 years old boy and a 9 months old baby
Written June 28, 2018
The NPS requires that ALL passengers be able to comfortably wear an approved life jacket, which means that a child must weigh at least 40 lbs. to be able to take a float trip; generally that means age six and up.
Written October 27, 2018
Hello! We booked our trip and are very excited! I thought I read somewhere that your company provides drinks and snacks for the floats. Can you let me know? That was I know if I need to pack waters and snacks. Thank you!!!!!
Written May 22, 2018
The time on the river is about two hours, and the park service does not allow guides to "eddy out" to serve drinks or snacks as we used to. But you may pack along some water and snacks if you wish. On a private raft, you can bring anything you want to.

Hi, we are in grand teton in mid-June. We doubt about which tour we book. The tour of 5 p.m. or 7 p.m. We spend the night in colter bay. What time is it dark? Which trip gives more chance for wildlife? Thank you.
Written May 13, 2018
In mid-June, the latest trip generally offers the best chance for wildlife sightings, but it will be getting close to dark when you get off the river. Because of your 3/4 hour drive back to Colter Bay, you might be better off to opt for the 4 PM float so you can return to CB before dark.

I am trying to book a day the week of September 25, 26,27,28,29, and I get sorry no time available
Written February 22, 2018
The last week of September is always "iffy" as to water levels. Generally we try to float through the end of the month, but sometimes the water level gets too low during that last week, and we may have to end our season early.
Written October 27, 2018
I am trying to book a float trip on your website, but it says no trips are available in May. We are specially looking at May 31st. Is everything sold out? Thanks.
Written February 6, 2018
You may reserve space in May by calling our toll-free number: 800-354-1800. Early season river conditions vary considerably so we prefer to remain flexible in the numbers of passengers we can have on a raft.
Written October 27, 2018
We are interested in seeing wildlife and scenic views. How far are you from Moran? We would be in the area July 6-10, 2017. Would you suggest morning or afternoon. There may be 6 of us (2 seniors, 2 adults and 2 teenage girls). Would we be in the same boat? How should we dress?
Written April 26, 2017
From Moran, you are closer to Jackson Lake Lodge. The run the same beautiful trip leaving from their lobby. You might get lucky and be on a trip from Pacific Creek to Moose! Longer with the high water flows of early July. JLL also has lunch trips and an awesome riverside mealsite.

We are staying in Jackson Hole on our trip July 17-July 20, 2017. Can we drive from our lodge in Jackson Hole to the departure point for the float trip and if so how long should we allow for the drive?
Written January 26, 2017
Really sorry for the delay in responding as we have been away. It is an easy short drive to the departure point and parking is provided. A mini bus brings you back to the departure point.
