For starters, we're not uber-hikers. We're in pretty reasonable shape and have been relatively-easily complete other elevation hikes before (both in high elevations and when the elevations rise over 1000 feet). We started at 8:15 and finished at 4:15, with the additional mileage from the String Lake trailhead. That said, the last two miles of this hike were pretty rigorous,... More

Not for the average, nonchalant hiker!!! 15 miles round trip is NO JOKE people! Read the signs. Steep inclines, slippery, loose, sharp rock most of the way. Beautiful waterfall views. Lake at the top is the prettiest I've ever seen. I'd say at least 75% of the hike is in the sun. Start EARLY!! Like 7-8am. Starting midday is just... More

OK - this hike is 18 or 19 miles round trip, but getting to Lake Solitude is worth it. I highly recommend starting early and parking at the String Lake trail head as it is a mile shorter and you avoid the massive crowds at Jenny Lake. We made it round-trip in 7 hours, but most will take 8 to... More

Plan an early start to take the first boat to cross Jenny Lake and then, take your time, enjoy the views through the forest, Cascade Canyon and up to Lake Solitutude. Bear in mind that you are in ... bear country. So, check the safety recommendations before doing the hike, bring your bear spray. We saw a female with her... More

Hiked from Jenny Lake through the Cascade Canyon to Lake Solitude on Labor Day 2015. The entire hike took about 8.5 hours, with about an hour relaxing at Lake Solitude. It's a beautiful hike through trees in the Cascade Canyon. Once past the Forks of Cascade Canyon, the trail is more in the open with stunning views of the surrounding... More

My husband and I hiked this in late September 2014, we started at 6:30am and enjoyed it so much we wished we had packed in to spend the night up there! Turn after turn there were fall colors, waterfalls and beautiful mountain views. Soaked our feet in the lake and headed back down. We spotted a female moose on the... More

Hiked in late October and this trail did not disappoint! Originally intended to hike only to the Forks of Cascade Canyon however decided to press on as we were making good time and we had already come this far. Being late October the trail had a nice broken coat of snow which really added to the alpine feel. After the... More

This takes some effort to get to but will reward you deeply for your 7.25 or 9.25 mile hike to reach it, depending on whether you avail yourself of the jenny lake hikers shuttle boat. Above inspiration point, the elevation gain becomes gentle but you are climbing, steadily. Alongside a rushing brook surrounded by the towering ramparts of cascade canyon,... More

Lake Solitude is not the prettiest mountain lake I have seen but a very nice one, and never the less worth the hike. Depending on the time of the day you might or might not find solitude as the name indicates. When we got there after 4 pm there were other hikers. We managed to be the last ones to... More

Accessing through Cascade Canyon or Paint Brush this is the destination. Beautiful Alpine Lake secluded for the most part if you don't count the wildlife. Moderate to Strenuous difficulty hiking from Cascade or Paint Brush.
