Little Colorado. Canyon not as big as its big brother but which I found beautiful and even more impressive. In fact, it is very narrow and with very vertical walls, which makes its view quite impressive (especially for those who, like me, suffer from vertigo). I Really Recommendation a Stop, Even Short

We were headed from the Grand Canyon to Horseshoe Bend and stumbled across this pull-off. We parked up at the road and walked to the overlook. It was a cool view. It's a definite stop if you are into photography.
There are different types of cacti (with signs) along the path to the overlook. That was a nice bonus. There is a setup for Native American booths up where you park, but none of the stalls were occupied.

We visited the Little Colorado River Gorge, on our way to the Grand Canyon (East Entrance), in the beginning of September and it was spectacular. It was a small glimpse of what we were about to encounter, the Grand Canyon.
Pros: There is no set price to enter this natural attraction, but they do accept monetary donations (give a good donation; do not be cheap and give $1.00; the donations help maintain the grounds of this natural attraction). You will see a deep canyon with steep cliffs carved out by the Little Colorado River. This site allows you to take pictures without paying a fee, so take pictures galore. There are handrails around the perimeter of the scenic view that provides for safe viewing of the edge of the Gorge. There are some tables for sitting and relaxing as well as vendors who sell Navajo crafts (jewelry, pottery, some carvings, etc.). Since we only viewed this attraction for less than 15 minutes, I do not recall if there are restrooms on the premises. I do recall a few of vendors selling waters and soda.
Cons: The walkway to the scenic view is not flat; you will have to walk down makeshift stone steps. This may be problematic if you have mobility impairment. The parking lot is graveled and not paved (we did not have an issue with the graveled parking lot; I simply would like reviewers to know the condition of the parking lot)
Opinions and Recommendations: If you are on your way to the Grand Canyon, do not pass up the Little Colorado River Gorge. Make a stop, give a $$$$$ donation, enjoy the scenic view of the gorge, take pictures, and then move on to the Grand Canyon. You will not be disappointed. It is a small taste of the “Main Attraction”, the Grand Canyon. Safety reminders: respect the handrails; respect the wildlife as you may encounter an occasional rattlesnake, scorpion, centipede, or lizard. In my opinion, this is a must-see, natural attraction if you are on your way to the Grand Canyon.

Cool stop on the way from Cameron to the Grand Canyon. This property is owned by the Navajo people, so there is a small donation to enter. Beautiful overlook of the Little Colorado River, very steep in some places.

The far eastern portion of the Grand Canyon along the Colorado River and Little Colorado River falls within the boundaries of the Navajo Nation, the largest Native American reservation in the United States. Though "Grand Canyon East" is not formally recognized as a Grand Canyon park, many visitors end up stopping for a view of the Little Colorado River Gorge. Upon exiting the Grand Canyon's South Rim from the east, you'll soon come upon the place to see it all, in all its glory--the Little Colorado River Gorge Overlook. A tributary of the Colorado River, the Little Colorado River has carved a canyon of its own that, like the many canyons within the Grand Canyon, is a world of beauty and wonder and contrast unto itself. During the summer months, its mineral content transforms its waters into a brilliant ribbon of robin's egg blue. During other times of the year, it displays an almost blood-red color. At the outlook, visitors can also browse kiosks, small shops or bead stands operated by Native Americans and shop for mementos or souvenirs of your visit.

This was our first stop during our visit to the Grand Canyon. There is no fee to get into the area, but donations are accepted. We were glad that we made the stop and saw our first glimpse of what was to come once we got into the Grand Canyon Park area. It is a view that does not disappoint.

We stopped here on a whim and were pleasantly surprised with this amazing place to view the river. The walk was longer than we expected, so definitely bring plenty of water on a hot day. There were two porta-potties by the Native American souvenir stall but I wouldn't use them unless you're truly desperate.

We were delighted and impressed by the beauty of this spot. Little Colorado flows into the Grand Canyon and the overlook is located in Navajo Nation Tribal Park territory.

Enjoyable and beautiful spot to look at the river. Near the Grand Canyon National Park. Easy to get there from highway.

As you enter the Grand Canyon area from the east (Cameron) on Rt 64, about 12 miles in you'll see a sign and turnoff for the "Little Colorado River Gorge" overlook. As the name suggests, this is a huge canyon/gorge carved by the Little Colorado River, which joins the Colorado River several miles downstream from this point. This overlook is not part of the Grand Canyon National Park, but is well worth stopping to see. It's run by a local Native American tribe -- admission is simply by making a donation, $ amount of your own choosing -- no minimum expected. National Park passes do not apply here.
The views into the gorge are great -- much more than we expected to see, and equal to some of the views you'll see when you're in Grand Canyon National Park.
If you have mobility issues, this stop may be challenging, as the walk along the railed ege is rocky and uneven, with several areas where you'll need to step up or down on uneven rocks. In this case, you're better off taking advantage of the views in Grand Canyon itself, where walkways provide easier access.
Bottom line, awe-inspiring views worth the time and minimal expense to see. Highly Recommended!

What if you are on your way *from* the Grand Canyon?

I'd check it out even AFTER seeing the Grand Canyon. It's impressive, and some angles are pretty breath-taking. The jewelry stands are a nice bonus.
