This is the first stop west of the beginning of the South Rim Drive & Bright Angel Trail that ends at Hermit's Rest. It is the only viewpoint on this drive & trail that you can walk down to a lower viewing point where you get a wide view of the canyon. And the view is spectacular!

Every view along the Hermits Rest Bus Route is worthy of your time. This was the first place we got off the bus and we were stunned at the beauty of the canyon. Once you are done here, you can take the bus or walk the rim trail to the next overlook.

My wife and I got up early (before sunrise at 4:30 am) and began our hike along the Hermit Trail to reach Maricopa Point for sunrise. It wasn't easy, as the trail goes up the mountain about 600 feet in elevation, but it IS paved, and doable. It took us about 1.5 hrs to reach it and we were rewarded with the most beautiful sunrise. You can get the shuttle bus and avoid the hike, which in hindsight, I'd do if I go again. The point is a promontory WAY out between two valleys, and it's just breathtaking. Plus, you have it to yourselves, NOT like the crowds at Mathers Point. Honestly, if you spend time worrying about making the "great lookouts" you'll miss the whole point. ANY LOCATION is AMAZING for sunset, sunrise whatever. Just wake up, and go!

Maricopa Point is accessed by the free shuttle along Hermit Road and offers a good view of the canyon looking to the west but there are better views ahead heading further west along Hermit Road. One of the more interesting things here was seeing the remains of the old uranium mine from the 50's, the Orphan Mine, and learning its story.

The entire Grand Canyon is such an amazing place to visit! Beauty like you can't even imagine. Well worth the trip there. My advice is to drive up and stay overnight, and get to the park before dawn. The sunrise is out of this world. Sunset is beautiful at Mohave Point too. Make sure you give yourself plenty of time to explore the different stops along the canyon rim. Be sure to check out the book/gift shop.

This is one of the 1st stops while driving out to Hermits Rest and has great views but the next 2 stops, Powell Point and Hopi Point offer better views and more areas to explore.
We went over Christmas weekend and it was cold and snowy but a great time to go without the summer crowds. You can also drive your own car and have all your own stuff with you which is nicer than waiting for a shuttle and being on someone else's schedule. Stop here and take a look then spend more time at the next 2 stops.

This stop looks quick but then there is nice walk out to the Lookout Point. The views are really quite spectacular. Get an early start so you have the best lightning and possible elk sitings.

Since I'm limited on how long and how far I can walk with my rollator, I have to be selective on my hikes. After walking halfway to the overlook, I knew I HAD to complete this hike. This was one of my most memorable parts of the Grand Canyon. This was my second visit to GCNP and well worth the revisit.

This is one of an infinite number of places to stop and see how beautiful the canyon is. There is no one perfect place to see how beautiful it is. The best thing to do when you are touring the canyon is to stop at as many places that you can and see which one is your own personal favorite.
