Interesting adventure!

Walking through the visitor center and viewing some of the local history of the surrounding area was very enjoyable.

A normal visitor center, centrally located. Parking places around (get stuck easily), arrive early. Shuttle buses go to village, Tusyan and Kaibab trail head and Yaki point

Poor parking planning and overpopulation of tourists brings this way rating down. Restrooms are available. Good signage and sidewalk areas. The south rim can be loved to death by tourist so get there early (4-5am) to get any parking at all. Parking is a nightmare anytime after 9am. Well maintained buildings. Short walk to canyon rim on paved paths. The... More

I was thankful for the Grand Canyon jacket purchased at the gift shop because it was 15° colder than I assumed. It was $40 but worth every cent for our time & hike there.

The Visitor Centre is large and modern, clean restroom facilities - a great Canyon 360Degree video to watch. Very friendly and helpful staff, the Junior Ranger program can be started and finished here - pick up the activity books whether you are young or old and learn alot about the Canyon. We highly recommend the Fossil Talk.

Bypass immediately and go to the smaller visitors center just west on the rim trail, directly overlooking the canyon. The smaller one really tells the canyon's geological story. The central visitors center only seems useful if you're managing a bus full of tourists or selling junk. Great bathrooms, though.

I highly recommend you watch BOTH videos: one is to the left in a little room with a spinning globe, and this 8-minute movie tells you about the history of the canyon and how it was formed. It's short, but it covers the basics in a neat way. The second movie is to your right and runs for about 20... More

If you have Kids under 10years old I would start here and then walk along the rim to the Hopi house (you can get ice-cream just past the Hopi house). The trail is Down Hill!! in this direction and you will learn a ton about the canyon along the way and have great views. They have different rock types and... More
