Went on the Phantom Ranch tour, and what an experience. The guide, Dara, was so good, she made the trip so much better. The hikes were a challenge to me and to our 4-person tour. Wildland and Dara made the trip seamless. Whether it was the great information, the eye to detail, arrangements and execution, or the great lunches prepared out of a small pack, all of the trip was great. What an incredibly beautiful, challenging, and awe-inspiring 3 days! The heat of July made the bottom at Phantom Ranch even harder, as did the water-line break so that we had no showers. But Dara and Wildland made even those problems seem minor compared to the overall experience (and of course that was not their fault!) If you can get a reservation at Phantom Ranch (between PR closing and COVID it took us 2 1/2 years) Absolutely take this tour, or any other that is multi-day in the canyon. Wildland deserves the 1# rating that they get from several sites.…

We did the Rim to Rim hike with Wildland and had Jordan as our guide. The trip was amazing but Wildland made it that much more special. They were easy to deal with and our guide was exceptional. Actually everyone we met from Wildland was awesome.

The trip was magical and exceeded our expectations. Doug was superb! He was competent, knowledgeable, responsible, and attentive, in addition to being just a pleasant person to be with. Dough listened to our needs daily and optimally adapted to them. He accommodated to our preferences and fitness levels without compromising the itinerary when appropriate. At other times, he challenged us and made suggestions that stretched our imagination. He was always right, and we always ended up enriched by his input. He was very generous and when we had more time, he added treks or experiences (e.g. watching the sunset over the Canyon or eating outdoors at a beautiful spot) that he thought we would enjoy, beyond what was promised in the itinerary. We had an amazing time that we will never forget. I travel a lot across the world, and this is by far one of my most inspiring trip. I trust Doug’s judgment and will go with him anywhere in the world. I am already booking another hiking trip with this company.…

Review of: Grand Canyon Discovery Tour
Hiking the canyon was a trip of a lifetime! A physical accomplishment for me, a 58 yr old, cancer survivor, yet in relatively good shape. I’ve been getting in shape for this hike! Ok - not as in shape is some of the hikers I was paired up with, one of whom ran 100 mile races. Our guide, Karla, although I asked her several times to set a slower pace, she refused and said I was being negative. Once in camp she was snippy at me. She really detracted from my whole experience and I would have been better off going alone. My husband was not enjoying her constant political discussions with the other hikers. She has been a leader for many years, my impression was that she is tired of that life and would rather go trekking with friends or people of her choosing. Karla was not a good guide for me. Also - bring your own sleeping mat. Ours both failed (and were patched). In summary - go to the Grand Canyon! It is so amazing! It’s a hard hike but very doable, especially if you can go at your own pace.…

Response from innermountain, General Manager at Wildland Trekking
Responded 4 weeks ago
Hi Laura, We're so sorry that the guide on your trip did not elevate the experience for you, and in fact detracted from it. The goal is certainly for our guests to always feel grateful for having hired a guide vs. going on their own. Our managers are already aware of your feedback, and will work with this guide to ensure whatever underlying issues that exist are addressed. Although the tour was disappointing in some ways, we're glad you enjoyed the Grand Canyon - it is a dramatically beautiful place, and exploring it a very special opportunity. We wish you the very best in your future travels and adventures, Scott Cundy (Co-founder)

Wildland Trekking (Steve K.) was our guide for this 3-night, 4-day hike from the North Rim to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. They provided the top-notch equipment; packs, pads, sleeping bags, tents and poles, as well as all food and needed back country passes. While this was a challenging hike for my brother and I (both 55+), it was made manageable by our knowledgeable, experienced, and super-fun guide, who had an answer for all of our questions, educated us about hiking in general and the GC in particular, and really just made this bucket-list adventure so much fun! I can't recommend Wildland Trekking enough . . . from signing up, their communications and organization was fantastic!…
