I did the 5 day/4 night Colorado River Traverse Backpacking trip. A few words come to mind when reflecting upon this experience: epic, awe-inspiring, challenging. The Colorado River Traverse is advertised as one of the most challenging Grand Canyon trips, and it certainly lived up to that. But, without a doubt, the breathtaking scenery, star-filled night skies, moments of serenity and utter silence, and sense of camaraderie with my group and guide made it all worthwhile. Beau was our trip guide. He is The Best! Seriously. He shared so much in the way of interesting information, stories, backpacking tips, and, of course, an awesome card game. I most definitely recommend him as a guide and would go on another backpacking trip with him. I highly recommend Wildland Trekking. The booking process was seamless; they quickly answered my questions and explained the COVID protocols. Great backpacking trip!

I was definitely not expecting the level of help a guide would provide to a trip like this. Our guide, Emily, was encouraging, helpful, and taught us so much about the canyon and tips for a successful backpacking experience. I would recommend this company and their expertise to anyone interested in an amazing trip like this was.

I went on the 5-day Colorado River Traverse backpacking trip; Beau DeMello was our guide. I will echo the sentiment expressed in the previous two reviews for this trip posted here - put simply, this was one of the best trips I’ve been on, and my only regret is that it wasn’t longer. The trip itself is challenging but immensely rewarding, the views are obviously breathtaking, and the experience of being at the base of the Grand Canyon and jumping in the Colorado River after a long day of hiking is something I will never forget. Importantly, I wanted to give a shout out to Beau, our guide. I don’t mean to exaggerate, but I literally can’t think of how a guide could’ve been any better than Beau was. Maybe his jokes could’ve been a little funnier? Maybe he could’ve brought me an extra Rice Krispie? In all honesty, this was my first time backpacking, and I couldn’t have asked for a better guide. Even the food was great! Beau, if you’re reading this, just wanted to say thanks again and hope to see you on another trip sometime soon!

Wildland Trekking takes care of everything - permits, food, transportation to trail heads. The guide was terrific! He was a great hiker and adapted to our speed. He knew everything we could have wanted to know about the canyon - the geology, history, plants, wildlife, Native American stories - it was so interesting to listen as we explored. We were supposed to do the R2R south to north but with covid and water issues at Phantom Ranch that trip was canceled so we did say hikes from the South Rim. The first day we did a corridor hike but the second two days we did hikes that are not so populated with hikers. While we still want to do R2R we are very happy to have done hikes we would never have even thought about without Wildland Trekking. The food we had on the trail was excellent and the thoughtfulness of our guide to present thawing Gatorade he had carried the entire hike when we were about half way up on our ascents was a real treat and so unexpected! Call Wildland - so so wonderful!

The Colorado River Traverse trip takes you through the astoundingly beautiful depths of the canyon and challenges you every step of the way. This is the type of memorable trek that leaves a permanent imprint on your soul. There are so many reasons this trip was perfection—the gorgeous landscape, beautiful weather, a terrific group, some delicious meals (still dreaming about that curry), but perhaps most of all, our guide and fearless leader, Beau. I can’t imagine this trip being as excellent had anyone else been at the helm. Beau was experienced, professional, knowledgeable, and extremely fun to be around. We all loved trying to crack his riddles and logic puzzles, listening to his jokes, and being taught how to play Skulls underneath the starry night sky after an intense day. Beyond that, there were some pretty intense/rough moments on the trail, and Beau always allocated the time and support necessary to get everyone through safely. I always felt confident that I was in good hands. An enormous thank you to Beau and the Wildland Trekking team for an unparalleled experience. I’m already looking forward to the next adventure with you!
