Great trail and less steep than south kaibab. Better for families with smaller children. Truly beautiful

No matter how far you decide to hike, the variety of views along the way are awesome. We only hiked about two miles into the canyon but the experience was exceptional. The trail is popular and heavily traveled, but it is well defined. The big...More

What can you say about hiking one of the wonders of the world from top to bottom and back? Magnificent! Long, strenuous stretches mixed with streams, wildlife and the most amazing views nature has to offer. A true experience few have the opportunity to enjoy....More

We had planned to hike down the Bright Angel trail, into the canyon, for about an hour, unfortunately, I started experiencing vertigo and we only went down for about 20 minutes. The trail was busy, not too bad a width and footing was decent. Very...More

Beautiful views from the end of the trail. If you are a senior, take your time and you will make it. We stopped a few times to catch our breath. Take a camera!

Our family of five--grandmother, mother and dad, and two children were all able to enjoy Bright Angel Trail equally. Father and son (age 11) made it to Indian Garden at mile post 4.5--a nine mile hike that they completed in 4 hours and were extremely...More

Must do if you are up to it... What goes down, must come up! Suggest you try to leave early (cooler) and get back before it gets too hot. Bring water, rest stops at 1.5 and 3 miles have water, but you should not depend...More

Nice hike to the canyon, the trail begins from the village. The beginning of trail is quite easy but it gets tougher. Some shades around and water refill points. I think it is the best go early, beacause it get so hot at daytime in...More

I hiked from Phantom Ranch to the rim via the Bright Angel trail last month. The hike up to Indian Gardens was reasonably easy, with plenty of shade early in the day and a pleasant hike along the river and babbling creeks. The Devil's corkscrew...More

The Bright Angel trailhead is the nearest to the Grand Canyon Visitors Center/Village on the south rim. You can take it all the way to the bottom of the canyon to experience all of the geologic and climatic changes that occur as you descend. Water...More

Questions & AnswersAsk a question
We have two full days (and 3 nights) at the Grand Canyon staying at Kachina Lodge. The second day we are doing the full day River Adventure where you fly over the canyon, hike on the bottom, and do smooth water rafting. My question is how should we spend the first day. (We have twin boys who are 12.) Should we book an organized day hike on Bright Angel Trail or should we just plan to do the Rim Trail hike and junior ranger programs? Thoughts?

My suggestion would be to hike down either Bright Angel or South Kaibab. Set yourself some timeframe (i.e. turn around after 2 hours down or something like that), and enjoy the hike down and up. While coming up is... More
