The views from this lake are incredible. If you get the opportunity, take a boat tour around the lake. Their are also several 1 mile and other short hikes to waterfalls nearby.

St Mary Lake is a must if visiting Glacier National Park. We actually drove around the park to get here (the Going to the Sun Road was still closed) and didn't regret it. I would recommend spending a night in St Mary and you'll have...More

Driving at/around the lake the views seem endless and one could simply stand and watch for hours. There is also plenty of wildlife as a moose was seen. Fellow drivers who stopped saw Grizzly Bears and Black Bears. The pictures at any time are simply...More

Visited Glacier National Park many times and look forward to seeing St Mary Lake. Such beautiful mountains! Even after all the fires going through the Park. Take the Boat Tour and see a different view!

This is one of the most beautiful, iconic places in Glacier National Park that is in all the photos, a gorgeous glacial lake surrounded by mountain peaks. The Going to the Sun Road passes along the north shore for about 10 miles, between St. Mary...More

One of the most photographed lakes in the United States. Boat tours are available, as well as plenty of parking and hiking trails.

We could see this lake from our campsite. And when driving in from the East entrance, Beautiful. Lots of parking spots but very congested midday.

St. Mary and the eastern side of the park are the places to be. Hiking to St. Mary and Virginia Falls was one of my families favorite hikes this year. We also stayed a few nights in Many Glacier, worth the money to be in...More

did not disappoint even with some smokiness from forest fires in canada. Our advice is to get to the park early before the crowds hit the pass then do a walk and then drive back late afternoon after the crowds have gone. Otherwise you will...More

Plan to stop at St Mary Lake visitor center for interesting interpretive programs. The lake itself offers wildlife viewing, especially waterfowl. Many bear seen ambling through the campground there as well.

Hi, I remember it being a tad longer than a mile, but perhaps you can google map the distance. If you are really early and it is calm - awesome shots! I have it as a screen saver on my phone!
