I saw multiple gators up close on the side of this long gravel road. There were large and small birds in pretty much every roadside pond on a cloudy day. Great wildlife photo opps! Make sure your tires aren't flat and are in good shape before driving through here! This is what the glades are all about. Memorable drive. :)

I didn't see any gators, but there were plenty of biting bugs that kept me from opening car windows or stepping out to take pictures. Still, I had the road almost entirely to myself and could stop regularly. Fortunately, the dirt road covering 2/3 of the route was dry, so the going was pretty good. A relaxing way to spend... More

Great drive to see gators. Saw more here than on our airboat ride. The water is so clear that we saw several fish. We saw a gar eat another small fish. Our teens loved it! Was a great way to see nature and take a break from the 99 degree heat.

The cypress swamp is interesting in the small parts you can see, but it's a dirt road with limited views. Also, it's not well marked nor is the road paved. The highlight of this road was seeing an alligator just walk across the road.

We decided to try the loop, as we wanted to wander away from the busy Tamiami trail, and we did not regret it. The road is in very good condition and the speed limit allows for a nice cruise through this part of the part. Just stop at pretty much every bridge or water-crossing and you will see gators in... We drove the loop road on our way from Everglades City to Key Largo. It was amazing! Gravel road but well maintained and easy to drive. We hopped out of the car numerous times to spot alligators in the mangroves on the side of the road. We also saw an abundance of birds, snakes, swamp rabbits, turtles and other wildlife.... More

We had taken lots of advice on if this was a suitable road for our non 4 wheel drive saloon car. As a result we decided to give it a go. It is a rough gravel road with no potholes, so any car can make the trip although only at a slow speed. However, this was a disappointing nothing attraction.... More

We drove Loop Road on our way to Miami for the day from Marco Island and it was worth the drive. It is a gravel road but is in relatively good condition that any car could pass. We saw an abundance of wildlife including alligators, snakes, birds and turtles. Make sure you take your time and drive slowly, checking all... More

We visited loop road yesterday and it could not of been better! The road starts off paved and then turns into a gravel road. Some of the other reviews say the gravel road is pretty rough but we didn't think it was bad at all! The speed limit is 25mph and going that speed is not a problem. Although the... More

It's a bumpy, dirt road, so don't bring a nice car! It basically loops you around off the main road and takes you into some places where gators are just laying around everywhere. A fun experience if you have the time!
