Considering the amount of tourists that visit this park each year, I figured the visitor center would be a little bit bigger/ contain more exhibits. The animals on display are plastic versus actual animals which I believe is in poor taste. I will say the...More
You can get to the Denali Visitor Center by shuttle from the hotels close to the park in Healy. There are all sorts of exhibits downstairs which introduce you to the wild life of Denali. You get to see and feel the difference between different...More
This was our first stop before we did anything in the park. We are glad we did. Park Rangers are very friendly and helpful. Take a few minutes to see the movie about the park. There are plenty of educational exhibits. This is where children...More

We popped in here after a long bus tour and lunch. For us, it was OK — we looked at a few exhibits. We were told you need to come here first if you are camping (for a number of important reasons like location and...More

Isn't this frustrating? Getting information on the McKinley Chalet is very difficult. Even the cruise line we booked our visit with could not tell us anything. I think you will get the most reliable info from the park service site were there is a phone no., calendar, tours and dates available. I googled Denali Park
service. This site would not let me copy and paste the site address. It looks like the park is open til 2nd week in Sept. There is also a site for the McKinley Chalet. I'd call them and get everything in writing if you are dealing with a cruise line. Good luck

You can take any of the NPS buses from the Wilderness Access Center (WAC) to whichever stop along the route you would like and enjoy a day hike, assuming you have a ticket as some of the buses sell out. The cost depends on how far into the park you want to be driven to begin your hike. Reservations for your outbound bus trip may be made in advance. I recommend taking the very earliest bus out in the morning so that you have the most time to hike. When we visited there were lots of folks taking the bus out to either the Eielson Visitor Center for the Ranger led hike, or Wonder Lake or Kantishna so they could hike the back country. For your return to the WAC you return to a designated stop (though some of the drivers will pick you up anywhere along the road) and you wait for a bus. Keep in mind that during peak season you may have to wait a while for a return bus that has space, especially mid day. If you want to take a mountain bike out you definitely need reservations. Be sure to get your permit to hike the backcountry, and pay attention to the wildlife alerts!!
