I spent an evening with Todd Whetstine learning to improve my skills while photographing some of the beautiful scenery outside of Denali. The area along the Denali Highway is as beautiful as the Park, and more accessible. I learned to turn off the manual and be more creative with my digital SLR. Those skills came in handy the next day when we saw caribou and moose in the Park during dusk. I would recommend that visitors go with the photo guides early in their stay at Denali to get better photos. One never knows what will be seen and when!

Thank you! We agree that the locations we visit during our excursions are just as beautiful as the park! Great suggestion to get out with us early on in your trip! We couldn't agree more and we love getting folks set up with their gear to make the most out of their time in Alaska!

Terry was very focused on customer service and providing the picture opportunities that we wanted. He also gave us suggestions on where we could go on our own while in the area to also get good unique pictures. We greatly appreciated the small group size and the pickup/dropoff service. Great experience!

Had an amazing time. My husband and I were the only ones there. Big thanks to Todd who realised that we knew something about photography and took us to some amazing places. I had a new camera and he taught me how to get the best out of it, thoroughly enjoyable experience I would recommend to anyone interested in photography.

We had a great time on our photo tour! Todd was timely, very knowledge, super helpful, professional, accommodating and enthusiastic. And he was so observant, we were driving along when he would stop because he spotted an animal that 4 of us riders missed. I went with my teen and Todd was great with them -took them and their abilities seriously and was encouraging. We had 2 cameras, he gave us information about using the new camera and lots of great advice about photography in general. We were lucky that Denali was out for us, not much Alpenglow but some nice sunset colors in other locales. I wish I could've taken Todd along for our whole Alaska trip. Go, you won't regret it!

This was such a valuable and memorable experience, and I could not recommend it enough. I did the Midnight Sun tour with Todd (and his sweet dog Copper), and it was every bit worth the cost. I ended up being the only person on my tour, which was great, but even with the maximum 3 people it would have felt very individualized. I not only learned so much about photo composition - leading lines, rule of thirds, how to use my camera's histogram, etc. - but enjoyed a great conversation with Todd over the course of the 3.5 hours. I consider myself a pretty experienced photographer but have always struggled with landscape photography, and this tour really helped me gain a whole new perspective on the subject and I have some great photos to show for it!

I visited Denali in July 2018 and not 2019 as indicated above. We were on Princess Cruise from Vancouver to Anchorage. We decided to book inland Alaska where I booked Denali Photography Workshop. Terry and Eva came to the hotel to pick me up to take on various locations. It was an excellent experience with a lot of techniques we had learnt from Terry and Eva was alwayscthere to support. Terry also was very helpful in sharing with us his equipment such as filters etc.. We enjoyed so much that he supported us one hour over the time stipultated. The group was quite small one, only 3 persons. On returing home to Malta I continued keeping in contact with Terry every time I needed advice and always replied back. Terry thank you in getting me into landscape photography. I highly recommend this experience with Terry.

We were very fortunate to have Eva lead our photo tour. She knew all the “secret spots” to get the most amazing and beautiful pictures. I recently purchased a new camera and she was able to explain the most important settings to adjust for that perfect shot. We even saw wildlife on our drive back and got close up pictures!

We went with Todd on a rainy day. He offered us a refund upfront as we would not be able to see Denali but we wanted to go. We learned so much about cameras and how to take photos it was invaluable. And we saw some moose and got some great pics of them. Highly recommended.

our family of four went out for the Midnight Sun Photography tour and had a great time. The guide was friendly and knowledgeable. He worked with our kids on setting up shots and using the gear in order to get the best pictures. The time flew by. We would definitely do it again.

We were in the Denali area as part of a Holland America Land+Sea tour. Terry's workshop was on the list of excursions and looked to be the sort of thing we were looking for. The weather was rainy and gray the morning we set out. Terry gave us the opportunity to back out and either reschedule or get a refund, but we decided to go for it. My wife and I plus one other photographer piled into Terry's pickup truck and went chasing for good pictures. He took us south of the park where the weather was clearer and got us some great views of the mountain. We drove around to several other places and found some caribou as well as some terrific landscapes.
Terry is quite encyclopedic when it comes to how different cameras and systems work. My wife bought a new camera right before the trip (note: never do this) and was struggling to figure out settings. Terry worked with her and helped puzzle out a number of things and she got some great shots. He was equally attentive to the other photographer, who also needed a lot of help. I'm fairly advanced and have been shooting the same camera for several years, so I just let him help me find good compositions. I can't recommend him highly enough.

Hi,
I only use my Samsung 8 phone camera but am interested in beautiful settings to take them. This sounds more like for "real" photographers" eh?

Hi Jim,
Our tour is great for all photographers and cameras! We have had many people come on our tour with only a phone camera. While there is less to learn about phone cameras, the tour is a great way to see the beautiful landscapes and look for wildlife. Plus we offer the smallest group size of all tours in Denali, so you really feel like you have the landscape all to yourself. Please let us know if you have any more questions!
I don't see your contact information listed. How would we go about scheduling? Thank you!

We are based in Denali, which is over 100 miles from Talkeetna so unfortunately we don’t pick up there. However we do pick up at the Princess Wilderness Lodge located just outside of the Denali National Park entrance. Please come see us in Denali!

I am an avid photographer & am hoping to get some wonderful wildlife (Alaska Big 5) & scenic pictures while staying at Denali. I am wondering if Terry Boyd Photography is the way to go, cost, transportation, etc. Other options? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks :)

Hi, The Big 5 is a tall order. How long are you going to be in the area? Why don't you just give me a call and we can discuss your options.
Thanks!

I am going to be in Denali on 31 May 2017 and 1 June 2017 with free time to take the tour evening would be best. Can I book direct, or via Holland America. Please advise.

I'm interested in the June 6th date for your photography workshop. I missed the sign-up through Princess and would like to be on the wait list if possible.

Hi, I bet they are not offering the tours for the 2017 season just yet. They may be having an issue getting all the updates and changes made to their Land Excursion site. Don't worry We will get you out on June 6, I suggest checking back on their website after Jan. 7 or so. Have you tried calling them ?
